Either she was confused by what she wrote or was lying in her follow-up, which claims, "I meant to try to shame or persuade individual actors into choosing not to shame." Sorry, but an article categorizing shaming as a form of coercion is not equivalent to merely shaming someone out of slut-shaming (it would be trivial to come up with reasons why slut-shaming might be a bad thing one should be ashamed of without ever making this absurd argument). In fact, it is incredibly hypocritical to make that claim when your original article is very clear that shaming others is equivalent to or perhaps worse than coercion -- only to then claim to be doing that very thing you are complaining about.

So, I think the best reaction to the Garner thing so far has come from a New York Times comment I saw. One person argued that Garner's choking is really the state of Virginia's fault.
