Brickbats: Keeping Count

The British Office for Standards in Education, Children's Services and Skills (Ofsted) denied Middle Rasen Primary School its highest score because the student population was too English. An Ofsted report gave the school top marks in every area but said "Pupils' cultural development is limited by lack of first hand experience of the diverse make-up of modern British society." School officials note it is located in a small town that is 97 percent white English.

A couple years of busing to Rotherham should round out the young girls' education nicely.

I seem to remember mostly bears. But then again, I only half paid attention to it during a transatlantic flight to the UK. As for the people I saw while in the UK... The country was pretty pale. Despite the statistics on paper, I didn't see any south asians. I did see a black girl, who mistook my 'what?' for not knowing what petrol was when it was more a case of I was a bit distracted and didn't hear the question. (I was buying an atlas at a Tesco because I was lost).

Mind you, the people I interacted with were either commuting on the underground, or working at their jobs. That might have skewed the data set.

Okay that was a bit cruel, but given that the UK's welfare state is so bloated that someone on the dole takes home as much as I did working full time a few years ago, I'm surprised anyone worked those service jobs at all.

Actually, I understand it's quite common for dole recipients to do both.

When caught working and collecting the dole, they give up the job.
