29-Year-Old 'Right to Die' Advocate Brittany Maynard Commits Suicide
Maynard had terminal cancer
Brittany Maynard stuck by her decision. The terminally ill woman who revived a national debate about physician-assisted suicide ended her life Saturday by swallowing lethal drugs made available under Oregon's law that allows terminally ill people to end their lives. She would have been 30 on Nov. 19.
Maynard had been in the national spotlight for about a month since publicizing that she and her husband, Dan Diaz, moved to Portland from Northern California so that she could take advantage of the Oregon law. She told journalists she planned to die Nov. 1, shortly after her husband's birthday, but reserved the right to move the date forward or push it back.

I read this earlier. Good for her. I'm sure it took courage.
Agreed. Self ownership.
How sad. . . At least she got to end her suffering when she chose to. I thought her comment about those that really love her understand her decision was a great rebuttal to the idiotic "culture of death" statement made by the religious group (whatever the hell that means).
Everyone should have this right. The state has no business interfering in such a personal manner.

My best friend died of a brain tumor in February of this year. He was diagnosed with it last May, only one month after he married. In my mind, his suffering and death were dignified, since he didn't take the coward's way out. I despise the selfish, amoral "right to diers".
I don't see how the "right to diers" are selfish or amoral. I would want my friends and family take self-ownership and go out in a manner of their choosing. I certainly wouldn't want them to suffer unless they wanted to do so.
Who's really being selfish and amoral here...?
Only the selfish and amoral would want to subject another person to pain and misery for the sake of "dignity". I think you grossly misinterpret the meaning of the word.
More than likely, your best friend was the coward here. Lying in his own feces while expecting everyone else to wipe his ass is hardly "dignified".
We all die of something. Making the choice as to how, where and when takes far more courage than simply waiting until you're a bed-ridden vegetable laying in your own shit.
