UN Climate Panel Wants Fossil Fuels Eliminated by 2100

The unrestricted use of fossil fuels should be phased out by 2100 if the world is to avoid dangerous climate change, a UN-backed expert panel says.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change says in a stark report that most of the world's electricity can—and must—be produced from low-carbon sources by 2050.

If not, the world faces "severe, pervasive and irreversible" damage.

The UN said inaction would cost "much more" than taking the necessary action.

  1. UN Climate Panel Wants Fossil Fuels Eliminated by 2100…

    Whooop-Deeee-Woooo…

I want excessive Government Almighty eliminated by 2020… THAT would do a HUGE amount of FAR, much more goodness, even WONDERFULNESS, for all of us!!!!

  2. Yes, and I want a pink pony.

  3. “The unrestricted use of fossil fuels should be phased out by 2100 if the world is to avoid dangerous climate change, a UN-backed expert panel says.

They just bought themselves 86 years of fear mongering and the ability to force green policies.

Besides, this I thought, at least if I understood Al Gore correctly, we had to do something NOW. Not by 2100.

  4. From the link:
“The conclusion that fossil fuels cannot continue to be burned in the usual way – and must be phased out by the end of the century – presents governments with an unusually stark choice.”

Well, no. It’s not the governments’ choices, unless 1989 was for nothing.

    1. Given the general attitude of people in the US since 9/11, 1989 was for nothing.

I however count the night that East Germans started crossing freely into West Berlin as one of the greatest events in my lifetime.

Global Warming, Global Climate Change, Average Global Warming or whatever we’re calling it today may be 100% pure solid science. That does not mean that I’m about to give the Feds, the UN or the town council a blank check.

      1. “I however count the night that East Germans started crossing freely into West Berlin as one of the greatest events in my lifetime.”

One memorable passage in Judt’s “Post War” has the East German official announcing the end to travel restrictions on TV and even before the broadcast was over, East Berliners were out their doors, streaming through the Brandenburg Gate.

    2. the UN let its mask slip. They miss the days before 1989 so much, they tailor their “recommendations” to a simpler time when governments told you where to live, what job to take, and how much you could earn… you know, for fairness… not totalitarian orgasms.

  5. The UN said inaction would cost “much more” than taking the necessary action.

100 years ago these people would’ve been knocking on doors and demanding that we come to Jesus and tithe at their church.

The only interesting thing about this is that fossil fuels almost certainly will be phased out by 2100 in the same way that whale oil was all but eliminated from the world economy by 1920. When it does happen, it will have just as much to do with pseudoscience and alarmism as did the transition from whale oil to petroleum.

I’m sure by then the holier-than-thou types will have moved on to something else to harass us with. We’ll always be stuck with doomsday cults and would-be messiahs of one stripe or another.

    1. “I’m sure by then the holier-than-thou types will have moved on to something else to harass us with”

Science is only embraced by the political crowd when it suits their purposes. This applies to both real science and junk science.

  6. 2100? I thought it had to be RIGHT NOW or sooner. That got pushed around more and harder than Obama’s red line(s).

  7. The town I lived in got measurable snow on 31 Oct. This hasn’t happened for 69 years.

Maybe global cooling is setting in.

    1. So you’re saying we need international legislation mandating that people let their cars idle for at least a half hour a day?
