Vid: Are You Afraid of the Dark? (Election 2014 Parody)
Ebola everywhere, Isis in the White House, Hallo-weed candy, and other reasons to be afraid of the dark!

Always good to know that we can count on our watchdog press to call politicians out on their lies and delusions.
Globally, people may be more prosperous, tolerant, free, safe, etc. than any other time in history, but there is always the need to panic over something.
And the best way to remove these fears is a bombing campaign and/or taxation.
.
Interesting paranoia and delivery of message there.
We are not one and the same. It is funny that someone started a new username to claim this though. He/she should tell us their username or real name. My first name is Matt. It ain't Bo and I'm not a lawyer. However, I'm somewhat flattered someone thinks I have a JD at this young age.
I'm not a lawyer either (yet). I'm fairly certain this is a crazy obsessive poster I've run across before, that creates usernames to express their weird anger at this or that regular (me being one target).
Got it
Are those actors from the show? YouTube comments seem to suggest it.
Lena Dunham: God, why are all these right-wing men so weirded out that I admit I molested my younger sister? Fucking right-wing nut jobs.
Don't criticize her guys. She's in a rage spiral.
Uh, right-wingers are becoming predictably unhinged over exploratory, youthful, and normal sexuality.
I'm cool with her rage in this instance.
When she herself was 7?
There was a story Reason posted a few months where a mom called the cops on her son for doing something similar. She didn't know how to handle it, so she called the authorities, and the kid had to go through court ordered therapy, was yanked out of school, etc. Not sure if he was put a sex offender list, thought. I don't think he was much older than 7.
I doubt they meant that as a model reaction.
Kids do weird shit when they're figuring out their bodies. That's actually normal. Talking about it to masses of people when you're an adult...that's not so normal. But as always with Dunham, I suspect she's doing it specifically to cause a reaction. That's her thing, and she is very good at it. Just look at how apeshit people went over her showing her fat ass body all the time. It actually made people angry.
Did it though? I thought it just confused people and led to some mockery of the show.
Personally I have no problem with Dunham being naked all the time on her own show, but I do think it's hilarious that no other character ever gets nude. I watched the first season and there was one girl who actually has sex fully clothed, whereas Dunham just wanders around naked for no reason.
This is also why the feminist claim that people are being sexist against Dunham doesn't hold up. I've heard people say 'well, there are fat male men on T.V. like George from Seinfeld and no one ever mocks them.' This is obviously ludicrous because if George from Seinfeld was constantly walking around swinging dong and no one else in the show was ever naked, I think some people might have been confused by what was going on.
"I watched the first season and there was one girl who actually has sex fully clothed, "
In fairness this happens on lots of shows that otherwise have nudity so I've assumed it usually has to do with the particular actress in question.
But it's true of all the actresses. None of the other actresses ever get naked, including the super slutty British girl.
When the only person who gets naked on a T.V. show is the funny looking one, and he or she gets naked all the time, it is noticeable regardless of their gender and people will comment on it.
Haven't you watched a show like that before? The handful of episodes of Sex and the City I've watched I only saw the Samantha (?) character actually 'show the goods.'
Hobgoblins, FTW!
Sorry of this has been covered elsewhere today, but this was particularly galling leftist tripe on the 'catcalling' video
http://www.slate.com/blogs/xx_.....treet.html
South Park should feature this story in an episode. It's right up their alley.
That would be brilliant. It could feature Big Gay Al getting cat called as he walks around Fire Island.
I'd make it P-town, not Fire Island, but the principle is the same.
My summary: I'm going to assume all men harass. Now, sure, that tape mainly showed black men catcalling, but since I assume all men harass that means the tape must have been edited and white guys just harass in other ways. As proof I'm a biracial woman and when dancing at a party I thought some white guys dancing around me looked at me as though they considered me exotic. So therefore all men harass!
This is particularly ridiculous:
No, most men who harass women, although many of the 'cat calls' in the video don't meet any actual definition of harassment, do so out of sexual interest. I love that progs can never acknowledge that someone might be doing something for the reason they actually give - there must always be some bizarre ulterior motive involving power dynamics.
Men cat call because they want to fuck the woman in question. It's not excusable and is certainly very rude, but it's a basic fact. There's a reason young and attractive women get this treatment and 80 year olds do not. If it was all about 'controlling space' then men would also harass 75 year olds. The fact that they don't means that it is absolutely about sexual interest, no matter what bizarre theories progressives may construct to deny this fact.
This one is quite bizarre. In fact, it's really hard to take it seriously.
Fighting oppression makes you a hero, fighting sexual desire a prude.
.
No it's not. Bo wouldn't have made a joke about polling millenials.
Wrong.

And between you and me and the board Irish, I don't give a fuck whether you agree or not, your opinion on it means exactly zero.
It IS bo.
I'm genderless then?
Oh, I know this poster! Pretty crazy.
Wow, you're pretty fucking hostile for no reason.
1) I'd prefer people chose a handle and stuck with it.
2) I don't care who Handle X or Handle Y "really is."
3) I would prefer it if people responded to what other people write in the thread, not to who they "really are," or to what they said that ticked you off in some other thread.
4) Please refrain from over-the-top name-calling.
Thank you, carry on.
For the record, I was attempting to be funny because neither will swear. Millennial sounds like Bo, at times, but Bo, to my knowledge, doesn't seem the type to need to hide his identity.
They need the "Sexy!" and "Smile!" to create the illusion of dominance in shared public spaces that social constructs and institutional racism have never afforded them control over.
AND because they can't afford to do blogging, tweeting, and Facebook posting.
Let me guess- if everybody went to college and took Sex Identity and Privilege Awareness 101, "catcalling" would be a thing of the past.
We should poll millenials about whether this is the best course of action
Duh
Recent neuroscience research shows that people with A.D.H.D. are actually hard-wired for novelty-seeking ? a trait that had, until relatively recently, a distinct evolutionary advantage. Compared with the rest of us, they have sluggish and underfed brain reward circuits, so much of everyday life feels routine and understimulating.
To compensate, they are drawn to new and exciting experiences and get famously impatient and restless with the regimented structure that characterizes our modern world. In short, people with A.D.H.D. may not have a disease, so much as a set of behavioral traits that don't match the expectations of our contemporary culture.
From the standpoint of teachers, parents and the world at large, the problem with people with A.D.H.D. looks like a lack of focus and attention and impulsive behavior. But if you have the "illness," the real problem is that, to your brain, the world that you live in essentially feels not very interesting.
I was too fidgety to read the rest of it.
But if you have the "illness," the real problem is that, to your brain, the world that you live in essentially feels not very interesting.
Perhaps. But the world owes you neither a living nor entertainment. Learn to feed your own brain reward circuits.
Nobody said they were owed anything.
Not everyone figures this out, so it's very useful information: for people with that kind of personality, go into business for yourself, because working for someone else is always going to suck.
I'm lucky I figured it out early on.
Are you uh, are you hiring?
The world doesn't owe you anything, but growing up in a traditional school environment would only aggravate the situation - sitting for extended periods of time listening to someone drone on about something you have no interest in.
I probably would have been "diagnosed" with ADHD when I was growing up, but I had migraines so often that I thought it was normal to feel that way - so I didn't complain about it. Otherwise, I would have been causing all kinds of trouble. My parents finally figured out something was wrong when they'd notice I'd come home from school and immediately go to sleep.
I mostly grew out of it as soon as puberty hit.
Dr. Nora D. Volkow, a scientist who directs the National Institute on Drug Abuse, has studied the dopamine reward pathway in people with A.D.H.D. Using a PET scan, she and her colleagues compared the number of dopamine receptors in this brain region in a group of unmedicated adults with A.D.H.D. with a group of healthy controls. What she found was striking. The adults with A.D.H.D. had significantly fewer D2 and D3 receptors (two specific subtypes of dopamine receptors) in their reward circuits than did healthy controls.
Just out if interest I looked up the article: http://www.nature.com/mp/journ.....1097a.html
It had a group of 45 "ADHD" patients and 41 controls. The science is settled!!
And no less than 12(!) people were listed as authors on the paper.
"The adults with A.D.H.D. had significantly fewer D2 and D3 receptors (two specific subtypes of dopamine receptors) in their"...
Oh, look, something shiny!
For all men, harassment of women has more to do with establishing power than it does sexual interest; they do it to control space, both public (the very street you both walk on) and personal (a woman's self-set boundaries).
Yeah, sure, whatever you say.
God fucking dammit... can this site offer something more fucking interesting to discuss than term limits and fucking elections on the weekend? Christ... Fuck the election, Fuck candy, Fuck all sorts of things... Weak weekend Reason... fucking weak weekend...
Elections make me want to stick Doritos up my ass. I'd like some sexy stuff for the weekends. This site is probably the best in the world but it can do better.
Are you on a bender? I couldn't quite tell on the other thread.
God, I hope so.
Gold is on the verge of s three year low and is some 30% off its high. We could talk about goldbugs delusion.
You pussed out on the bet, Soros.
Was he going to bet on Georgia?
When he's coked up, he thinks he's a financial genius. He proposed a $100k stock market bet, and then he backed out.
Formula One may finally have managed to destroy itself, with their new technological nightmare of a rule book. Not one, but TWO teams have been unable to answer the bell, as the saying goes. Caterham and Marussia did not even bother to show up in Austin for the USGP.
Let's hear it for hybrid race cars.
Also, Lotus apparently showed up with a new front wing, finely tuned in the wind tunnel and computer simulator, only to discover the damn thing, bolted onto an actual race car, running in real at mospheric air, on an actual three dimensional race track, DOESN"T WORK. Off it comes. They sure save a lot of money with those test team restrictions.
How's that, Cyborg?
Formula 1 has been boring as fuck for 25 years.
It isn't racing, it's a parade, with the winner determined in qualifying.
Also, Rosberg's McClaren was having brake balance problems in the morning practice. The cause? Some sort of software glitch, apparently. Yay, technology.
Gold is on the verge of s three year low and is some 30% off its high.
Despite Bernanke and Yellin's best efforts, the dollar is strong. Bummer.
Interesting legal case: Abortion law upheld by minority vote
"The court upheld a state abortion law against a federal constitutional challenge by a 2-3 vote. That is, two justices in favor, three against, and the two won...Apparently North Dakota has a constitutional rule that requires a supermajority to invalidate a statute, and it applies that rule not only to state constitutional claims to federal constitutional claims."
