Hong Kong Student Begs for International Support
What the international community can do about the plight of pro-democracy demonstrators in Hong Kong is an open question. China is a sovereign country and even Hong Kong's special and relatively free status within the authoritarian state doesn't fully shield its people from the wrath of the authorities or invite outside intervention. If the Chinese government insists on holding bogus elections in the region, then it's up to locals to give them good reason to change their minds (Anthony Fisher described the players in the protests last week). But it's difficult to avoid being moved by this Hong Kong student's description of protests and the police response, and her plea for support.

So... how is Thomas Friedman spinning all of this?
He is fapping away, wishing the Democrats could impose their will the same way here.
Sorry lady, if I'm going to get shot for liberty it is going to be here.
I can offer you hashtag support. Other than that, what am I supposed to do?
Send in the drones?
Thinking I'll show up in Central and set up a discount protective equipment kiosk. Gas masks, filters, plates and vests, should be a good market for it. They get some outside help, I turn a neat profit. Everyone is happy. Except maybe the Party. Eh, fuck 'em.
"Honest This Machine's Extra Value PPE! Get 'em while they're hot!"
It's not totally useless for the world to at least raise its voice to protest Chinese bullshit. We don't have to drone-murder anyone to do that much, at least.

Today, we all so horny.
I can't read that any more. Every time I do I chuckle and people are starting to stare.

STOP! You're going to get me in trouble.
Just remember your guilt for conflating a Vietnamese prostitute with a Chinese student, and your laughter will end as you turn inward and self-flagellate over your white-male culpability.
Is Sum Ting Wong?
Yes, Wi Tu Lo.
Not going to happen, sister- your liberty threatens corporate America.
What's sad about this Hong Kong shit, is Progressives have abandoned the Chinese protests.
A Novel Opinion...
...but probably accurate.
Hey, tough luck buddy--we're all isolationsists now.
China cracks down on HK freedoms. Who could have seen that coming?

To which the answer is, "Squat."
I wish I could speak with her, and tell her how lucky she is that she can't vote. No good can come from voting. It would only serve to give a false aura of legitimacy to the government. What's more Hong Kong is number one in the world in economic liberties. She doesn't know how lucky she is. Sure, civil liberties are an issue--so protest around civil liberties. The only true form of voting is the kind you do with your feet.
