(Skyliner)

A month ago I launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund a print run of my dad's graphic nover, Skyliner. That campaign ends tomorrow and thanks to you and everyone else we're almost at our goal. We got mentions at Comics Reporter, BoingBoing, and thanks to one of our readers, Geekadelphia. A friend of mine who owns a comic book store and has helped me work through getting Skyliner to where it is also explained why our project's worth supporting. It always sounds better coming from someone else. You can also listen to me talk about the project with a buddy of mine from Freedom Watch here.

I've put the first four (of 11) issues online for free download, and I think this is a page some of you might like that captures some of the sentiment of the story:

You can watch the Kickstarter video of my dad  here:

My dad's got a Facebook page too. And the Kickstarter link's here. Thanks for all your support so far!

UPDATE: Thanks to a very generous donation from one of you, we hit our goal tonight! Thanks! We still have a day left so I'm adding a stretch goal to get the book printed in color, which would let us include the original covers within the book as well as 11 new, full color pages. Thanks again to all of you!

I hope your old man has a better proofreader.

    What up, dog?

  3. Hugh Akston   11 years ago

How much do I have to contribute to find out what the difference is between Stalin and a pig?

    1. Ed   11 years ago

      I’ll have to find out!

  4. Max Power   11 years ago

Some of you guys should back this, so it gets to the goal and I can get my copy.

    1. HBoA   11 years ago

Did just that. It’s funded. Fuck you, you nitpicking bastards (not you MP, you’re OK).

  5. HBoA   11 years ago

Man, you people are being dicks about this project.

  6. Max Power   11 years ago

Nice, I just checked and it met the goal. Congratulations, Ed! Maybe someone with big Koch $$ backed it at the last minute.

  7. riak   11 years ago

Nice tp see that the Poles were so much more civilized and intelligent than Russians – a Russian is a Soviet, a Soviet is a Russian, and boy, the ones who survived the imposition of Communism in their homeland were stupid, weren’t they? It’s only fitting that once the Cold War “ended”, the West kept it going . . . ’cause damn! Those Russians are just too stupid to live, aren’t they? And one simply can’t separate Soviet from Russian, can one?

    1. Smilin' Joe Fission   11 years ago

      uhh.. what?

      1. seguin   11 years ago

Probably some RUSSIA STRONG!@!@! troll that gets personally insulted every time someone points out how shitty the USSR was for every other country it shat on.

      2. Sevo   11 years ago

        Uh, I think there’s a point here.
Russians (like Poles) lived under the Soviet government, and some brave ones were visibly opposed to that government.
So conflating Russians and Soviets is a bit of an insult to some VERY brave people. And mostly dead ones.

        1. seguin   11 years ago

          You’re right of course.

I’m very very cynical about people who post defensive rants like that, so maybe I’m the one jumping to conclusions. Internet, amirite?

          1. Sevo   11 years ago

I’m pretty sure there are other issues involved here; the Russians beat on the Poles on a regular basis, but then the Poles did the same to the Russians, so some jingoist animosity is likely evident on both sides.
But the Soviets took stupid, cruel and mendacious to whole new levels…

    2. Lord Peter Wimsey   11 years ago

Good God riak you are an idiot. AGAIN – the idea that lefties, while misguided, are essentially caring intellectuals, while conservatives are brain-dead cave men is disproven daily in the internet.

Lots of stupid cons (especially certain social cons) but every third lefty I trip over on the net is dumber than a box of rocks.

Your’e number three today, riak. “…Soviet from Russian, can one?” Good fucking grief. Go back to your faculty meeting.

  8. seguin   11 years ago

    Needs color.

    Donate naow!!

    1. Ed   11 years ago

I’m especially excited about the 11 new pages. He’s only ever done the comic book covers in color, never actually a comics page. It’s gonna look awesome!

      1. seguin   11 years ago

Judging by his Boogie Nights poster on Polish Poster I’d say you’re right.

      2. Sevo   11 years ago

        Ed,
For reasons of anonymity, prolly the only way you’ll get the $XXX from me is to give us a mailing address.

        1. Ed   11 years ago

if you email me i can send it to you. i put in donations from a couple of people that way

  9. hrsdty   11 years ago

Hey, does your dad’s work show how the Poles, Russians and Nazis joined forces to dismember Czechoslovakia? Any pictures of Polish generals palling around with Nazi generals, fraternizing on the graves of murdered Czechs? Cause that seems like a big chickens coming home to roost when the Poles got theirs from their former friends.

    1. Ed   11 years ago

You can download the first four issues here: http://www.skyliner1954.com/downloads

I think there’s a Polish general palling around with a Nazi in the second issue.

      1. hrsdty   11 years ago

Didn’t see that panel, but who cares. Issue 4 is really fantastic. It’s incomprehensible- like science fiction- to normal American bred people, but life really was like that behind the Iron Curtain. I wish you and pops the best.

  10. hrsdty   11 years ago

Sorry, Nazis, Poles and HUNGARIANs in 1938– the Russians joined that group of criminals much later.
