Brickbat: Eat Less Chikkin

In California, Ventura High School Principal Val Wyatt barred the football booster club from selling meals donated by Chick-fil-A at back-to-school nigh to raise money. Wyatt cited company President Dan Cathy's opposition to gay marriage as the reason for the ban. Superintendent Trudy Tuttle Arriaga backed up Wyatt. "We value inclusivity and diversity on our campus and all of our events and activities are going to adhere to our mission," she said.

We value inclusivity and diversity on our campus...
More or less.
LETELU: Looks Exotic, Thinks Exactly Like Us
Unless we don't agree...
Selling Chik-fil-A chicken is hate speech.
HA! Good one! So is backing this Administration!
Well, at least this time you only accidentallied a single letter instead of almost an entire sentence....
Like the smell of Libertarians - you can smell the hate wafting off those chicken sandwiches.
There's a reason they have waffle fries.
If I were the Pres of the Boosters my statement would read:
"Dear Principal Wyatt,
Fuck You
It is goddamn free chicken from a goddamn fast food chicken joint.
It will bring us a free (insert amount here) dollars, which will be greatly appreciated and well used by our football team.
Fuck you again."
I would than proceed to sell the chicken and see what Prinicipal Val tries to do.
There is no way a Principal has the authority to bar one chicken franchise vs. another.
This kind of bullshit needs to be challenged.
What's the worst that can happen? Val calls in a swat team and looks like a complete dick?
Or arrest for disorderly conduct, expulsion for disrespecting his authoratah, a severe beating/shooting by said SWAT team resulting in permanant injury/death, etc.
All of these are known outcomes we've seen before.
If I was the president of Chick-fil-a I would find out who their big rival team was and write them a fat check and a letter specifically mentioning the other school's policy.
Heh. Nice.
If you were president of Chick-Fil-A, you'd be, um, dead.
I'm sure Chick-Fil-A has a new or at least interim president who is alive.
I'm pretty sure their board is capable of appointing a new president upon the death of the old one. I don't think they did like the North Koreans and declared him the Eternal Leader.
From the article: "his son and now-president of the company, Dan T. Cathy, has publicly expressed being against gay marriage."
Unless the Gay Assassination Squad had managed to take out Dan, I think the company has a living president.
Wait, Dan T?
Perfect!
"This kind of bullshit needs to be challenged"
Thank goodness, the Sons of Liberty didn't stand around wringing their hands while tea was off-loaded in Boston Harbor.
Which gives me an idea bordering on evil.
The football team should demand the schoolboard provide the funding lost out by the barring of this fundraiser.
Offset by a pay cut to the principle.
Simple. The principal would have the power to transfer the coach to another school or have the school board do so. Problem GONE.
Principals do not have that power.
I guess this works out all around - the principal forces kids not to deal with people who are intolerant of gays and at the same time forces Chick-Fil-A not to deal with people who are intolerant of people who are intolerant of gays. Let this be a lesson to you kids - if somebody does something you don't like you should use the power of government to force everybody else to shun them.
The state is the biggest bully of them all.
Bump
I see Chick-fil-A selling tons of protest sandwiches here (or would they be protest the protest sandwiches) If I were the PR guy for Chick-fil-A I would be actively encouraging these boycotts/bans.
It works.
Prior to the hullabaloo, I discarded the notion of doing business with them because of their stupid name. Now, I'm wishing there was a franchise here so I can buy some food from them.
Chik-Fil-A's chicken sandwiches are really good.
Zaxby's is superior, but the nearest store is over an hour away. It's good, but no fast food is that good.
For a while McDonalds ran a peppery chicken sandwich with pickles on it.
Reminded me of when I lived in an area that had Chik-Fil-A restaurants nearby.
McDonald's has a knock-off "Southern chicken sandwich" on the menu that is a poor substitute for Chik-fil-A. The McD version is dry and lifeless and flavorless, even though the box claims it will be "moist and flavorful".
By definition, being an hour away makes the food not fast. 🙂
Why, that really....makes sense.
Then delete it. Can't have things making sense on this blog.
The lefts intolerance knows no boundaries and has no shame...
"We value inclusivity and diversity on our campus and all of our events and activities are going to adhere to our mission," she said.
In the name of inclusiveness, Chick-fil-A must be excluded. This way we shall have more uniformity, in the name of diversity.
"We value inclusivity and diversity on our campus and all of our events and activities are going to adhere to our mission,"
I bet Trudy Tuttle has no clue what she just said.
Trudy Tuttle? Perfect name for her.
Sounds like the Education minister in the Harry Potter books.
The first thing that came to my mind is that she's doing a disservice to the imaginary Captain Tuttle of the 4077. Or am I the only one who remembers that episode of M*A*S*H?
Is she Tom Tuttle's daughter? Does she come from Tacoma?
Harry Buttle?
Wyatt cited company President Dan Cathy's opposition to gay marriage as the reason for the ban.
It seems to me that a companies political positions should be irrelevant in a school given the fact that they SERVE CHICKEN, and that's it. Then again, I'm a crazy 'liberturdarian', or something.
We value inclusivity and diversity...
Yea, except those with whom you disagree.
Didn't that proposition get more than half the vote? Should the school expel all the students whose parents voted for it? Why stop there? Why not just make all students sign an "Inclusiveness Pledge" saying they will shun anyone who has opinions in conflict with the school administration? Because inclusiveness means exclusion of wrong thinkers. Oh, and "freedom is slavery".
If the school was hosting a charity event sponsored by a left wing political group like Mayors against Guns or something, all the outraged people here would be screaming about government indoctrination.
But a lot of the people here agree with Chick-Fil-A's political stances so it's okay.
Uh, schools have been using fundraisers since the dawn of time, often selling donated items. I'm pretty sure the sandwiches didn't come with a tract on the sin of homosexuality. If Mayors Against Guns just sent a check, I doubt anyone on the blog would say anything.
That is a fairly lame comparison Stormy.
a politcal group's express purpose is the furthering of their politcal agenda.
CFA's express purpose is selling food for profit. They just happen to have a corporate philosophy that is different than the school district's.
There is no express political statement in eating a chicken sandwich or accepting charity from CFA. That the political stance of a friggin public school district is so severe that it cannot do business with a non-political organization that thinks differently is beyond Orwellian.
"There is no express political statement in eating a chicken sandwich or accepting charity from CFA"
That is the blindness of the conservative mind. But to a Liberal, every act, food, sex, work is a political act. There is no separation of the two.
Sending the wrong signal, just once, could get one uninvited from all the cool parties.
Mmmmm, food sex work.
a rather delicious irony in this Chik-Fil-Hullabalou is that this same tie-dye set that ridiculed Mittens for claiming a "corporations are people" twists asserts the same view here.
If you are going to hold a corporation culpable for its principal's political views, have you just imbued it with personhood?
This is a pretty specious comparison, especially here, as many, many Libertarians support gay rights and gay marriage.
What we don't support, pretty much across the board, is bureaucratic bullies who exclude people for their views under the banner of inclusiveness.
It's a level of absurdity you didn't use to be able to find outside Kafka stories and the USSR.
To make sure of their policy, should not Principal Wyatt and Superintendent Arriaga find out the opinions on a host of issues of all the owners of the business they might deal with? You know, make a list to find out who's naughty and who's nice.
Parents and students, too. Make everyone sign an "Inclusivity Pledge."
"I hereby dedicate myself to the holy causes of inclusivity and diversity. I shall support inclusivity and diversity in all my thoughts and actions. Should I ever fail in my steadfast adherence to inclusiveness and diversity, may I be shunned and consigned to the outer darkness like those d*mn gay-hating conservatives! So help me Obama."
I dunno about that man, I think Chicken is pretty good for the soul!

Further evidence of the technological singularity.
Jsut roll with it.
Only if it's fried.
Or they could rename the event Gay Pride back to school night with free chicken from Chick-fil-a.
this is blatant viewpoint discrimination by a public employee.
Since he is a public official, and these items had been donated, he needs to be brought up on Misuse of Public Funds charges. Instead of selling them and using them for proper educational purposes, he threw them out or refused them (not sure which) for purely political purposes.
My god. It is the opinion of the CEO. So fucking what? I don't agree with the man, but his opinion is not going to affect at all whether I eat at Chik-fil-A or not. By the way, I do not enjoy their food. Ok, besides the waffle fries of course.
"We value inclusivity and diversity on our campus and all of our events and activities are going to adhere to our mission," she said.
Could someone over there please explain inclusivity and diversity to her?
