Hello.
"I sent ree hundrid fiddy men!"
"President Obama arrived in Tallinn, Estonia ahead of a NATO summit in Wales to reassure NATO members..."
I'm sure they're all reassured.
"President Obama arrived in Tallinn, Estonia ahead of a NATO summit in Wales to reassure NATO members..."
Talk about painting the bulls-eye on the next target.
President Obama arrived in Tallinn, Estonia ahead of a NATO summit in Wales to reassure NATO members...
I think he made a wrong turn in Albuquerque. How does swinging by Estonia make any sense?
I guess it makes sense because Estonia is a NATO member that Russia enjoys harassing?
How does swinging by Estonia make any sense?
Hmm.
I like my Hmm better.
Maybe Poland doesn't have any more use for empty promises of alliance and protection?
It was on Reggie Love's bucket list.
Ohayou gozaimasu.
Stop, or we'll shout, "Stop!" more loudly.
Former Survivor lead singer Jami Jamison died of a heart attack, aged 63.
His band's name let him down one last time.
Now I'm going to have Eye of the Tiger stuck in my head all day. Fuck.
What about the Baywatch theme?
Jamison wasn't the vocalist on "Eye of the Tiger" -- he only joined Survivor in 1984.
So you can have this stuck in your head instead.
*barf*
I didn't say it was any good, just that it would be stuck in your head. :-p
Well, you failed. I didn't listen to enough of it to remember it. Ha ha.
I didn't even need to click that to know it sucks
I guess you could say he was just a man without the will to survive?
Sad day. I have a vestigial affection for mid-80s "rock" bands, particularly those with lead singers who kept trying to hit the high notes two decades after they lost it. Speaking of which, I wonder what Steve Perry is up to these days.
I heard some recent recordings of him on "O and A" a few months ago, trying to sing some Journey songs.
He couldn't hit any notes, let alone the high ones.
President Obama arrived in Tallinn, Estonia ahead of a NATO summit in Wales to reassure NATO members in the region that Russian aggression in Ukraine did not mean the same would be tolerated against them.
I didn't know they had golf courses in Estonia.

3523 pages, each requiring a different flash plug-in.
Single page!
BOLKO THE STRICT - why am I not surprised it is a German.
If Germans didn't exist, we would have to make them up.
Romulans?
Before I click, they had better have Ethelred the Unready on that list.
It does not.
BOOOO!!!!!

15. BURMUDO THE GOUTY, King of L?on from 984-999, suffered from such a bad case of gout towards the end of his life that he couldn't ride his horse and had to be carried everywhere by his courtiers
I don't have courtiers; I have orphan laborers to carry me everywhere.
Halfdan the Bad Entertainer? I caught his act at the Comedy Club. The Independents had him as a guest once.
His son was quarterdan the unfunny.
Researchers believe they've found abstract art created by Neanderthals...
Come on, if you don't have anything nice to say.
Another one of Pro L's secret lairs is discovered!
My Neanderthal heart thirsts for revenge. Or would if hearts drank stuff and revenge were a liquid.
Did you steal that from Homer Simpson?
Did he say that? I thought I just made it up.
That's more Sterling Archer than Homer Simpson. Definitely not Peter Griffin.
So we're just done with phrasing, right, that's not a thing anymore?
PHRASING, MOTHER!!!
"This painting represent Thog commentary on ennui of modern society. Thog not believe in representational art, Thog have broader vision.
"And this represent mastodon Thog kill last week."
Vladimir Putin, meanwhile, says Russian troops could get to Kiev in two weeks.
Getting there isn't always the hard part.
Nothing to worry about, just undocumented immigrants trying to improve their lives.
Considering how poorly the Russian Army did in Grozny, I am not sure they would want to go to Kiev.
...seeking asylum.

Male privilege?
This is so absurd, I feel bad for laughing.
Wait, those numbers don't add up.
Now 24, incident happened at 14, how is the kid only six? shouldn't they be 9 or 10?
I noticed that as well.
The DM is just sloppy it seems:
"Two years ago, the state served Olivas with paperwork saying that he owed money to his six-year-old daughter."
So yes, it appears she is now 8.
Although, fuck, I can't do math either.
Damn your quick fingers! 😉
Now 24, incident happened at 14, how is the kid only six? shouldn't they be 9 or 10?
New math.

Guy was notified two years ago that he had a six-year old daughter. Take away another nine months for pregnancy and you're pretty close.
That's some award-winning, grade A, steel-cut, organic bullshit.
The numbers don't quite add up, though.
"Nick Olivas, now 24, didn't know that statutory rape existed when he was a teenager and therefore he didn't press charges against the 20-year-old"
It sounds like it was consensual and he probably wouldn't have pressed charges anyway.
I thought underage kids couldn't make decisions regarding this sort of thing, so charges were automatic, in other words.
What is this with the government just up and deciding somebody owes them money and then telling them after the fact? Shouldn't people at least have a chance to dispute these things?
Nope, it says right there in the Constitution, "guilty till you ALLEGEDLY prove your innocence - pay up, suckah!"
I'm especially irritated because the State of Maryland sent me a collection letter yesterday claiming I owe them $388 for something involving my car registration. Fuck you Maryland, I don't live in your stupid state anymore and my car isn't registered there.
But, at the end of the day those fuckers have my SSN and I like having good credit, so I'm going to pay up...
Vladimir Putin, meanwhile, says Russian troops could get to Kiev in two weeks
A discussion among Eastern Europeans about the best route to take should reduce tensions.
Putin needz moar GPSz?
Yeah, apparently, he went to Kiev by way of Berlin.

But I thought alleged rapists were guilty until proven innocent, and even then they were unfairly expelled. What happened to the narrative?
But I thought alleged rapists were guilty until proven innocent, and even then they were unfairly expelled. What happened to the narrative?
Maybe the rash of Title IX law suits by accused men is starting to make the colleges a little more cautious about acting without evidence?
I thought it was cases like this that were causing the feds to use Title IX more harshly against the schools, and demand that they get rid of due process for rape cases.
The feds are using Title IX as a fig leaf justification to 'convict' alleged male rapists without evidence. Enterprising lawyers are using Title IX as a basis to sue on behalf of their male clients since as men they are being treated unequally in such cases in violation of the terms of Title IX.
Ya something about officially labeling someone as a rapist without compelling evidence seems to bring rapid financial feedback.

They are supposed to be statues - are they going to have to replace them with robots?
Or save a bunch of that robot money and use actual statues.
Those hats won't look very good on an ED-209.

And it's all about the hats.
I prefer the older Omni Consumer Products ED-209.

Yes and no. Those guns are loaded, and they are fully justified in using them if threatened.
Obviously these cats are too busy practicing their dance moves to actually learn how to defend themselves from getting their heads sawed off on their own streets.

What about attractive coworkers?
Well I think that is okay.

Funny that never worked for me, every girl who said we were friends refused to show me her boobies, with the exception of a few.
Although I may have just proved your point. I will continue to collate the data.
I just love all this self-righteous outrage. These douchebags don't utter a peep if baby or wedding pics are snagged and release by aggressive paparazzi, but NOODS!!1! are fundamentally different. STFU

Wow. This is epic corruption on the part of Vanity Fair and the writer.
Chevron ought to name them as conspirators to subvert justice.
The sad thing is that there will be a lot of people who will claim the two writers are the victims in all of this. 🙁

The prime minister of the United Kingdom, David Cameron, met with the Cobra committee discuss the U.K.'s response to a threat by ISIL to behead a British hostage.
While I feel very much for the families of these poor captives, what ever happened to the "We don't negotiate with terrorists" thingy?
I was under the impression that, by not dignifying such actions with a response of any form, we sought to discourage them in the main. Acknowledging the act would seem to make any subsequent action, be it submission or return force, a lose-lose. Did someone hack into WOPR again?
Wait...so Cameron is having discussions with the known enemy of G.I. Joe?
Because while they suck at carrying out missions, COBRA is masterful at logistics and resource gathering. So they simply replace the COBRA Commandos with SAS troopers for the final assault and you have a winning combination.
Leave Obama Alone! Liberals Actually Believe Obama Is the First President to Be Publicly Criticized
Meanwhile, in Canada, the terms 'fascist', 'soft dictatorship' and 'police state' are used to describe the reign of Stephen Harper.
Our founding was based on distrust of government. People criticized George Fucking Washington.

Counter attack with camel spiders!
The camel apes will freeze to death when the first hard frost hits.
No, the camel camels freeze after stampeding the camel apes. Duh.
Those two statements are contradictory. Either they eat anything, or they don't bite, it can't be both.
Maybe they swallow whole?
Outside of eating billions of dollars worth of crops, deer pose no threat to human beings.
Or auto wrecks. I suspect running into a cricket will do less harm than one of those hoofed rats.
Except when they are in the road, where they kill more humans than any other animal in North America.
Outside of eating billions of dollars worth of crops and occasionally darting out in front of your car because they feel it's a moral imperative to cross the road right fucking now, deer pose no threat to human beings.
Outside of "broom her fast," best advice my father gave me was that when you see one deer, expect another. I can't count the number of times I've had a deer run out in front of me only to have one or two more a second behind. Probably the only reason I've never hit one head on.
If it crossbreeds with the killer bees that, according to my Boy's Life subscription, arrived in 1989, I'm headed to Canada, gun control or no.
They were talking about African killer bees when I was in elementary school in the 70s.
And somehow we managed to avert that disaster as well as global cooling and malthusian starvation, and all without anyone ever reciting a mea culpa.

"Dr. Bender was at one time a peace-loving orthodontist. He built a machine to relieve dental pain, using electric brainwave stimulation. Unfortunately he tested it on himself, and when it went haywire, he became hateful, deceitful and vain."
Holy shit, that's the best comic villain backstory I've ever read.
No True childhood-GI Joe-Viewer would call it the WWE, young'un.
I'm twenty four and Canadian, old man. GI Joe was something I watched from the Long-Ago Times When Reagan Had A Boxing Match with Gorbachev that Won the Cold War...or something.
Twenty four? Christ, the millennial articles are working. Hat-tip, Nick.
And Canadian!
I was here not commenting way before the Millennial push. And honestly all the Millennial articles have done is shown that Reason likes to confuse political apathy that tends to lean left for libertarianism.
Real GI Joes had life-like hair and Kung-fu grip, and use to beat up Ken and take Barbie to the 'Submarine Races'.
So...we can make GI Joe jokes while dropping the words "fuck", "cunt", and "meekrob" constantly. Got it.
I would have made a joke about Cameron planning his health insurance coverage in anticipation of being ousted.

Agreed. I was just being childish.
It bothers me how many websites seem to be optimizing for people who use fondle-screen technology. I've noticed it especially in photo galleries that bring up the full-size photo as an overlay, and trying to right-click and open in a new tab often no longer works.
It bothers me how many websites seem to be optimizing for people who use fondle-screen technology.
I think that is the way the internet is going. One way of looking at it across all the different devices being used (computer, ipad, smartphone, netbook, etc).

Now, now, Windows 7 is a decent OS. Which is why MS had to kill it with fire.
I stand behind my comment.
However, I should point out that I havent owned a MS OS since Windows ME RC0.
Ah yes. The Ballmer Peak.
But the next version of Windows will be good. They've been doing this for a while.
Windows 98 SE: Great!
Windows ME: Ugh
Windows XP: Great!
Windows Vista: Ugh
Windows 7: Great!
Windows 8: Ugh
XP was the first decent OS they produced, except maybe DOS, but it was flawed. Windows 7 is the first and only one I'd say was a very good OS. They should've stopped there.
XP was the first decent OS they produced
Are you forgetting NT and 2000?
Let me FTFY:
Windows 98 SE: Ugh
Windows ME: Ugh
Windows 2000: Great!
Windows XP: Ugh then later OK
Windows Vista: Ugh
Windows 7: Great!
Windows 8: Ugh
8.0 was a buggy mess, but after upgrading out of it I've never really understood the hate for W8. It's just Windows 7 w/ an unnecessary layer of start-screen functionality that you never have to use.
That layer of unnecessary start screen functionality seems to flow my computer down. A lot. Every time I try to search for something, lock my computer, login, etc it bogs down and takes forever, whereas Windows 7 works perfectly. W8 was just so unnecessary.
On my Wife's laptop, which has a touch-pad, the touchscreen bullshit is always making apps disapear and causing us to jump between different thngs. Meanwhile some apps and programs will continue to run in the background for a week, because they were started in the start-screen.
Fuck W8 with a wire-brush french tickler.
Another 1998 Disaster for Republicans?
Why would bother writing something and then basically tell your readership to disregard everything you wrote in the final paragraph? What an asinine activity.
Its so they can say they were right no matter what happens.
With that, as long as the Dems hold one seat, he can claim he was correct.
Yesterday, I had breakfast in Bozeman. The very nice waitress brought me a copy of the paper which had a truly awful editorial cartoon*. It made me long for the days of the weeping Statue of Liberty. It featured a "news crew" and a cop, in Ferguson, Missourah. The gist of the message was that the Mainstream Media are unjustly smearing the Noble Law Enforcement Professionals of this great nation.
We are evidently besieged by the worst of the worst criminal elements, and will be overrun by the savages if cops are not free to gun down jaywalkers with impunity.
What an odious, disgusting excrescence. I want to hunt down the "artist" and stab him in the eye with my mechanical pencil.
*I tried to find a link, but failed.

Just a followup to the Illinois incident where people collecting signatures for ballot access for libertarian candidates were hassled by goons presumably hired by the GOP: 1) We have apparently arrived in that we are now perceived as a threat; yay. 2) Welcome to the world of politics; expect a lot more dirty tricks in the future, especially in regards to getting on the ballot.
I am puzzled as to how the people hiring the goons thought they could get away with that in the era of the internet. That was profoundly stupid on their part.
That was profoundly stupid on their part.
Stupidity? From the Republican party? Surely you jest.

Somebody hould buy that idjit a map.
Obama has apparently taken the bait and back we go to Iraq.
It is my understanding that ISIS (a Sunni outfit) is nothing more than the Baath party that the neocons ousted due to WMDs. They are "taking their country back" evidently.
I'm still for non-intervention in the mid-east. We will accomplish nothing now as we've accomplished nothing in the last few years.
I voted for Obama in 2008 in hopes that he would be dovish. Evidently, either he's a closet case hawk or the military political machine in America is unstoppable.
There were more than 2 options on the ballot in 2008. Including in NY State.
Nader 41,249
Barr 19.596
McKinney 12,801
Calero 3,615
LaRiva 1,639
Baldwin 646
Paul 341
Keyes 37
Moore 11
Allen 1
That is 19k for Barr, not 19 and a fraction.
Im sure someone on that list was actually dovish.
Or do what I do: I write my own name in, for every election. I'm the only person who is right on every single issue.
I am a liberal. And, I thought Obama was a liberal. Boy was I wrong.
I ended up voting for Gary Johnson in 2012. Too bad he's not running in 2016.
You get Hillary next, woo hoo.
And he will be voting for her.
I am hoping for Elizabeth Warren.
So, you're saying your incapable of learning from experience?
Oh, dear. Here we go.
LOL
I am hoping for Elizabeth Warren.
Why, what qualities does she bring to the job of Prez? What executive experience does she have? She would be a greater disaster than 0, if that is possible.
Re: NYC Liberal,
Elizabeth Warren is no liberal. She's a fascist.
I think it's cute that NYCL has been so easily duped by all these run-of-the-mill, standard-issue politicians into thinking they actually have some sort of ideology.
NYC Liberal is one of those Progressives that wants to conveniently forget the history of his movement.
Nothing says 'liberal' like flipping foreclosed homes while decrying 'evil bankers' for doing it.
Ah yes, the great White Squaw, that will fix things, lmao.
It's the whole "if only the right people were in charge" thing again. Top. Men.
I dunno, you guys, if Warren tried to run for president it would be HILARIOUS.
I am a liberal. And, I thought Obama was a liberal. Boy was I wrong.
He was never a liberal. It couldn't be that he is a failure because he was a liberal. Nope. He was never one in the first place. You really except anyone outside the hive to believe that?
Sell stupid elsewhere. Tony and Shreek have got us full up. Obama is a liberal and the first real Prog President we have had since Wilson. You own him.
Once the liberals learn that liberal!=progressive, maybe they will start voting better.
I may not agree with them on much, but at least liberals can be worked with. Progressives are just entirely wrong.
He's being honest and straightforward and so far hasn't resorted to ad hominems. Not like Tony and Shriek. Still stupid but at least honest.
Last I heard, he was planning on running.
I seriously doubt NY Liberal did any such thing in 12, so I don't thin it matters, at least to him.
I know a lot of liberals who are very, very disappointed in The Great Obumbler. Most of that has come in the second term, to be sure, but it is still possible.
The mask of incompetence slipped when he signed that order to close Gitmo in a year. He just has no clue.
He doesn't have many loyalists remaining these days. Our own Buttplug being one of the few bitter clingers.
Killing craptons of people and accidentally facilitating the killing of more craptons of people does not count as "nothing." However, it probably doesn't come anywhere close to accomplishing something "good."
*It is my understanding that ISIS (a Sunni outfit) is nothing more than the Baath party that the neocons ousted due to WMDs. They are "taking their country back" evidently.*
Isn't Assad a ba'athist as well?
Sounds like a very good deal.

Recently, from college derp...
I know I missed the rape prevention discussion of a few days ago, but the controversy about the date-rape drug-discovering nail polish reminded me of what a guy who's becoming an RA told me about his training. Apparently they specifically do not advocate preventative measures. At all. At the same time, half of freshman orientation and a good chunk of RA training is about rape and what to do after the fact. Fuck, you'd think they just want to keep people dependent on the grievance lobby or something.
On another note, I was trying to defend libertarianism to two liberals. The first was making a case for why libertarianism should support a welfare state to remedy past injustices, confusing us for some kind Scandinavian social democracy. The second guy, after the first left, said "He doesn't actually understand this, does he?" When I nodded in relief, he went on, "The ideal libertarian state is one where all citizens consent by voting on every policy, isn't it?" When I tried to explain to him that there wouldn't be policies in the first place, he got this really confused look on his face and asked me, "But what would the government do?" FFS
Huh. In my experience, everyone just thinks that libertarians are anarchists.
Not just anarchists, but stoned anarchists.
I thought we were just Republicans who want to smoke pot.
Somalian cultural appropriators seems to be the latest trend.
Don't forget the ass sex. And cocktails.
And by "anarchist", they mean that big corporations would control the government, in order to control all of the people, in order to make horrible, horrible profits.
OT: I am defending a deposition today.
Sucks for you, I will be climbing into heavy machinery.... After I win my current fight with SAP

There is no winning with SAP.
I am relieved that I am not alone in this fight

And be careful to ask the right person for the sponge bag.
+1 fluffy pigeon. Actually we are denying . . . long story but client needs to use the 5th amendment.
"But what would the government do?"

Didn't you mean to write: The phone manufacturer Apple denies...
Didn't you mean to write: The phone design company Apple denies...
In my experience, everyone just thinks that libertarians are anarchists.
ROBBER BARONS ARE NOT ANARCHISTS!
Stupid libertarians don't understand that when rich capitalists bring goods, services and jobs to society, that they're exploiting us! I mean, they make profits! No fair!
So still nothing from Reason on the Rotherham scandal. It puts them on the same intellectual level as Feministing and Jezebel, both of whom despite being obsessed with "rape culture" haven't uttered a word about a real rape culture in the UK.
And here we see John in his Red Tony form.
WTF Rotherham have to do with Team Red? Were Democrats raping girls in Rotherham and I just missed it?
Are you retarded Andrew? Do you not know that the UK is not part of the USA? Seriously, WTF is the matter with you?
He was referring to this:
Premium derp.
Sorry Jordan, you not liking it doesn't make it Derp when it is true. There are about ten good pro Libertarian angles to that story. It is a real case of socialism and government gone mad, just like it is a real example of a rape culture. Yet, neither Reason nor the feminist sites will touch it, despite it fitting their respective narratives. That puts them each on the same level.
If you don't like something, rethink your views or make an argument instead of just yelling DERP and pretending it doesn't exist. It gets fucking old. You don't seem like a stupid person usually. Why do you act like one whenever you are confronted with an argument you don't like but can't refute?
Not enough pot smoking mexican ass sex involved to pass the purity test.
"Why won't you take my logical fallacies seriously?"
"Any analogy I don't like must be a fallacy"
Jordan, do you think the people reading this are that dumb? What I wrote above makes perfect sense and you know it. Screaming and throwing shit doesn't help.
That is indeed what I was referring to.
And that indeed Andrew was a perfectly valid analogy as I explain above. Are you too stupid to understand or respond to the analogy or just too much of a dickhead to admit that it is valid?
Argument is really hard. Much easier just to scream and throw shit. But argument is kind of rewarding. You should try it sometime.
Assume is when you make an ass out of you and me. Except that we're not entertaining your assumptions. Which makes you the only ass.
It doesn't matter why the are ignoring the story. They deserved to be criticized for doing so. And until either cover it or give a reason why, people have every right to draw whatever conclusions they want from Reason ignoring the story.
Would you give this kind of deference to the New York Times for failing to cover police abuse stories? I am pretty sure you assume it is because the NYT is just a bunch of pro cop hacks. And you are probably right about that. Why do you give Reason such benefit on this story?
Then maybe you should replace the editor. Obviously you know what they should cover better than they do. You should run the company.
How about I just point out their failure without being insulted by you and Andrew for doing so? How about that Sarcasmic?
If you don't think them not covering it is a big deal, good for you ignore the issue and don't respond to my complaining about it. I do think they should cover it and will continue to criticize them for it. Why does that bother you so much?
You're the only one who is bothered here, Red Buttplug. You're bothered that we're mocking you instead of jumping to Reason's defense. Just like PB does when we mock him instead of jumping to BOOSH's defense.
You're the only one who is bothered here
No I am not. See the kanarf and icundrus below. And CPA. They all agree with me. Again, if you don't think it is a big deal, then don't worry about it.
Who said I was worried?
Who said I was worried?
If you are not worried, then why are you on the thread? You are just being an asshole. You just admitted you don't care, yet you are still on here yelling insults and mucking up the thread. That is called trolling. I wasn't aware you were a troll. But perhaps I was wrong about that.
Red Tony loves fallacies. Like the True Scotsman.
That would be when Red Tony says Reason isn't a true libertarian publication because if it was then it would be covering what Red Tony wants it to cover. Only then will it be a true libertarian publication.
Okay, lets lay out the argument to you as well. There are about ten good pro Libertarian angles to that story. It is a real case of socialism and government gone mad, just like it is a real example of a rape culture. Yet, neither Reason nor the feminist sites will touch it, despite it fitting their respective narratives. That puts them each on the same level.
Which part of that do you not understand? Try and refute the argument or at least think about it instead of throwing up buzz words. It is hard for you to do but I think you have it in you. Try writing an intelligent response to that point without yelling Red Tony. Come you, you can do it.
Do you know exactly why they're not covering this story that you want them to cover? No? Me neither. Why don't you send an email to the editor? See what they say.
Or you can speculate and make accusations and look like an ass.
It doesn't matter why they are not covering it. What matters is they should be and are not. It could be because they are afraid of Muslims. It could be because they are too PC to tell the story. It could be because it conflicts with the all important open borders narrative. I don't know. But it doesn't matter. No matter what their reason, they are being intellectually dishonest in ignoring the story just like the feminists are.
Red Tony has declared it so.
Yes Jordan. Just yell Red Tony. Don't say why Reason isn't being intellectually dishonest. Whatever you do, don't fucking respond to the point. Just throw shit.
More like a Red Buttplug than a Red Tony at this point. Tony doesn't make wild accusations and then expect us to defend against them. That's PB's department. Blaming BOOSH and then getting mad when we don't defend him.
Which is what John is doing here. He's making wildly speculative accusations, and getting all pissy because we're mocking him instead of jumping to Reason's defense.
Oh really sarcasmic?
Has Reason covered the story? If not, it is hardly speculative to call them out for ignoring a story of that magnitude that says such horrible things about government.
And I am not the only one on here who thinks Reason won't cover this because of the immigration angle too. Are they like shreek too? No, I am different because unlike the others, I don't ignore you.
It doesn't matter why they are not covering it.
Have you shot them an email on the story? They may not have seen it, I have not. Instead of bitching that they are not covering it, send it directly to them via email. If they do not respond, then bitch.
Yes I have. And no they haven't said a word about it. I think it is an important story for a lot of reasons. It really is the face of incompetent, uncaring, evil government. I think it is a big deal and Reason ought to cover it. Why exactly that makes me a pro GOP shill is something no one seems to be able to explain.
Yes I have. And no they haven't said a word about it. I think it is an important story for a lot of reasons. It really is the face of incompetent, uncaring, evil government. I think it is a big deal and Reason ought to cover it.
Hopefully all laid out in the email. But you do understand they can not cover everything. I would like to see more Sudan coverage and the tragedy going on there.
Ptah Hotep,
This story has made every major newspaper in the country including the NYT. Reason covers stories from the UK all of the time. They covered the stupid celebrity phone hacking story for God's sake. Anyone who follows the news, and the Reason staff certainly does that, knows about this story. They are not covering because they are choosing not to do so.
And this is a lot bigger deal than the Sudan.
And this is a lot bigger deal than the Sudan.
See, it depends on your point of view. I think the Sudan issue is leaps and bounds greater than this one, but this one is still bad.
http://www.theguardian.com/glo.....port-warns
It is a bigger issue than the Sudan because what happens in the UK tends to happen in the US about ten years later. The countries are very similar and have been falling down the same slippery slope, with the UK in the lead, for a very long time now. The Sudan while bad, is unlikely to have much effect on the US.
The Sudan while bad, is unlikely to have much effect on the US.
I do not look at the effect on countries, I look at the effect on individual people.
And the point is that they do not cover everything we would like them to cover.
And the point is that they do not cover everything we would like them to cover.
So what? That doesn't mean some stories are not objectively more important than others. Rotherham is a hell of a lot more important than Micheal Sam or the UK tabloid hacking scandal. Yet, the latter have been covered to death and Rotherham hasn't been touched.
Sorry but "we can't cover everything" doesn't feed the bulldog when you are ignoring important stories and covering less important ones.
I first heard the story on NPR. Stick that in your sherry enema.
So NPR can cover it but Reason can't? You are not helping yourself sarcasmic.
What's to help? I'm not defending Reason. What they cover or don't cover is their business. Literally.
I'm not defending Reason. What they cover or don't cover is their business. Literally.
Then shut up and stop mucking up the thread. You just admitted you have no point.
My point is that it's none of your business either.
They're not covering this story at this time. So fucking what. NPR did. The British papers did. It's not like it's not being covered at all. Maybe Reason has a good reason not to cover it. I don't know, and neither do you.
So why don't you shut the fuck up and mind your own business? Be grateful they let you participate on their forum instead of getting all pissy when they ignore something that is important to you.
My point is that it's none of your business either.
Yes it is. I post on their board, read their ads and read their magazine. I have every right to criticize them, just like you do.
e grateful they let you participate on their forum instead of getting all pissy when they ignore something that is important to you.
That makes me laugh. If you want to spend your time kissing reason's ass, have fun. I don't roll that way. If I don't like something they do, I am going to say something about it. If you don't like that, then don't fucking respond. It doesn't concern you.
John and sarcasmic, chill out. You're going to blow it for Nick and Matt. They have a big expose planned for next month's issue. They have two stringers on 'the inside' who will have interviews with rapers and rapees, police reports, secretly recorded phone calls of politicians, and raw video of actual rapes. (and maybe some excellent Paki recipes for curried chicken)
Ix-nay with the itching-bay.
Now that is funny Big T.
Isn't the UK one of the 57 states?
Seriously, if you're going to talk below about arguing versus just flinging shit, throwing around insults like "retarded" doesn't exactly help your case.
If you don't want to be insulted, don't start yelling Red Tony in response to a valid post. You think it is okay to come here and yell insults and then whine when you get it back. You don't like being insulted, try not insulting people to start.
What it comes down to is I made a point you don't like but don't have a good response for and you think you can get around it by throwing out some flip insult. Sorry, it doesn't work that way., You get an insult right back and be called for you inability to make a cogent argument.
John points out that Reason has so far not mentioned anything about Rotherham. He also points our that Jezebel and Feministing have also so far not mentioned anything about Rotherham.
There could be any number of reasons for this. Is it not fair to speculate why, or call Reason out on it?
There is no reason not to call them on it. It just that some people would rather be fanboys than think I guess.
Everyone does this type of thing everyday, avoiding the uncomfortable especially if it makes you challenge your own assumptions and beliefs.
I think we can safely assume there is no willful collusion.
From the Jezebel and Feministing perspective, as the story does not contain the "rape culture" bogeyman "white male privilege" it isn't important because it won't advance their respective agendas.
From the Reason perspective, it shines a light in the hazards of lax/non-existent immigration control combined with the lack of assimilation peculiar to Britain and its 'Asian' immigrants. Since Open/Lax Borders is a favorite cause for some/many Reason writers, it is convenient to ignore it.
Reason could highlight Libertarian aspects, i.e.- right of individuals to self defense and the total lack of ability to do that in Britain. There are probably others as well. But so far have chosen not to.
The feminists don't cover it because multiculturalism says only white men are evil. In the end, they just care about scoring points against white men. They really don't care about rape.
I think you are dead right about Reason. And that doesn't say good things about reason. If they want to be open borders, fine. But they should always be honest and confront the facts associated with the issue even when it cuts against their narrative. I don't think the case necessarily says bad things about open borders. It says bad things about the UK's inability to assimilate immigrants. But that is not the same thing as saying open borders are bad. It just says you also need to not corrupt your government be corrupted by PC.
"Reason could highlight Libertarian aspects, i.e.- right of individuals to self defense and the total lack of ability to do that in Britain."
I'm not sure how that would help in this case. It wasn't a case of men grabbing random girls and dragging them into back alleys, they were lured into these situations and exploited. I'm not sure that having 12-year-old girls packing heat is ever much of a solution to anything anyway.
There is the larger question of public docility, and the successful Marxist efforts to break down the family unit as the bedrock of society, leaving an apathetic, rapist-sympathizing bureaucracy as these girls' main "defender".
The girls might not have been able to pack, but their families could have. There are many examples of families calling the police only to be told to fuck off and being threatened by the gangs. An armed populace would have put a stop to that.
What does that have to do with millenials?
I believe many of the rape victims were millennials, maybe we should poll them?
They've been abused enough.
It's always fun when a narrative runs into some politically incorrect facts.
Rape that occurs due to PC, leftist policies is the price of civilization. They'll make as big a deal of this as they did of Bill Clinton.
Re: Reason, you'd think this would at least merit a 24/7 blurb with two sarcastic comments below.
They probably want to avoid the "racism" allegations that are sure to follow if a libertarian site criticizes something a racial minority was responsible for. This doesn't mean I agree with them, I just don't think it's due to ignorance so much as a desire for self-preservation, whereas the Jezzies are just actively ignorant.
Heckler's vetoes are too dangerous. If anything, Reason and libertarians in general should wade into the racial hotbeds to present our arguments and get used to being called a racist apologist for corporations.
You are just being Red Tony by even thinking that Reason should say anything. Jordan and Andrew told me so. And if they allow a hecklers' veto, they are cowards.
I don't think it is that. I think they are just that insecure about open borders to talk about the story.
I don't think Shikha controls the editorial board. We all know that the Jacket does using Nick as its pawn.
Hey! I've got an idea! Why don't you make some wild speculations and accusations, and then get mad when nobody jumps up to defend against them! You could be like PB blaming everything on Bush, and then getting mad when instead of defending him he is ridiculed! Great idea!
Oh. You already did it. Never mind.
Are you Dave Weigel? Why do you have a whining and crying fit every time someone criticizes Reason?
You're the only one who is whining and crying. Just you.
"Why won't Reason cover this story! It's not fair! Not fair I tell you! If they were true libertarians then they'd cover it! But they're not! They're progressives! They're liberals! All because they won't cover this story! Why are you all picking on me? Huh! Stop picking on me! I said stop picking on me! Waaaaaaaaaaaaa-aaaaaaaaaaaaah!"
Again, if the story doesn't matter to you, then why do you care that it matters to the rest of us? You are the one who showed up to shit on someone else's thread, not me.
Seriously, just shut the fuck and comment on something else if you don't like it.
"Stop picking on me you big meanie!"
Sarcasmic,
You don't care and you have no point. You not picking on me. You are just making an ass of yourself and doing your best to obscure the point. That is what shreek does. You know, the thing you called me. Projection doesn't just happen in the theater.
Could the two of you just go back to the women wars already? At least we got the pictures back then.
Icundus,
Sarcasmic has no point and you are correct, I should ignore him. Jordan and Andrew have enough shame to stop. He doesn't.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvs.....-fake.html
Waaaaaaaaaaay to skinny for John. Small tits equals boy as far as he's concerned.
Sarcasmic,
If you think Reason should be covering something they are not, start a thread about it. I promise I won't come over and troll it and scream insults like you do mine.
Again, you have admitted multiple times that you have no point other than "I don't like you being mean to reason". Why don't you just post that once and move on?
Um, no. That wasn't my point.
My point was that you're being just like PB.
PB likes to make wild accusations, and then gets mad when we ridicule him instead of defending the accusations.
You're doing the exact same thing.
Take it up with Restoras, Metazoen and about the five other people who have posted on this thread agreeing with me sarcasmic. If it is such a wild accusation, why do so many people find it a reasonable point?
And more importantly, why aren't you trolling them as well? Is Restoras now a secret Red Tony too?
Again, you keep admitting you have no point and don't care about the issue. So why can't you leave it alone?
"Stop picking on meeeeee!"
Sarcasmic,
No one but you objects to the argument. The board now is infested with secret Red Tonys.
And sarcasmic, you are not picking on me. You are not even being an asshole. I am sorry for saying you were. You are far too pathetic to worthy of such a charge.
Rotherham: politics 'imported from Pakistan' fuelled sex abuse cover-up ? MP
I had to go to the conservative outlet to find out the pedophile gangs were all Pakistani. No one else is mentioning that little bit of information.
An inconvenient truth.
I heard about it on NPR while driving. And they mentioned the part about them all being Pakistani.
No one listens to NPR but good for them if they did.
Every reference I saw to it referred to them as 'Asian'. When I hear the word 'Asian' I don't think 'South Asia', I think 'East Asia', as in China, Japan, SEA - like most people.
Maybe the definition of 'Asian' is different in Britain - or maybe they are purposely using an over broad definition to avoid stating some unpleasant facts that are inconvenient to the narrative.
Having been to the UK multiple times, I have never once heard anyone refer to a Pakistani as an "Asian". The use of the term is a complete joke.
"Every reference I saw to it referred to them as 'Asian'. When I hear the word 'Asian' I don't think 'South Asia', I think 'East Asia', as in China, Japan, SEA - like most people."
Like most people, or most Americans? We have direct access to the Pacific, and a history of relatively high immigration from East Asia. Immigration from India and Central Asia, less so, especially in the past.
I think Asian refers to Indian subcontinent in Britain.
I know a few Brits. Never heard them refer to people from South Asia as Asian. Pakistanis, Indians, Sikhs, yes. Never as Asians, but it is a small and not necessarily representative sample so you may be right.
Agreed that it's ridiculous to not cover the story. They could even put a libertarian spin on it, noting that a lack of respect for the rule of law and underclass-creating welfare states can cause such a horrible solution.
Or as yet another example of a government failing to protect the most vulnerable from real crimes, instead of the typical social justice bs.
That is not the half of it. There is also the corrupt police angle. And the total unaccountability of the government officials in charge. One of the high officials who ignored this agreed to resign from the Labor Party but not from his 150,000 pound a year job.
So sarcasmic, is Metazoan like shreek too?
I'm giving Reason the benefit of the doubt and they have someone working on a print story. I tried reading through some of the articles and background information, and it was overwhelming. There is a ton of material to go through - give it some time.
Yup, this could easily be the correct explanation.
Maybe. But no mention of it in either the morning or PM links? No 24/7 mention? Maybe they have and I just missed it. But if not, that is a hell of a black out.
Moreover, by the time they say something the story will have died down and the opportunity to make points missed.
And show me where Reason doesn't say something about a story just because they are working on a longer piece because I can't think of an example. Can you?
And show me where Reason doesn't say something about a story just because they are working on a longer piece because I can't think of an example. Can you?
I can't. It may just be a case of writers working on too many other things, or no one within taking ownership and running with it. I don't know but agree that it is suspicious and disappointing.
Moreover, by the time they say something the story will have died down and the opportunity to make points missed.
I disagree. While the time may have passed to score rubber-necking eyeballs, I don't think the time will have passed to make thoughtful arguments and points.
The Duke Lacrosse Team Gang Rape is a good example of not rushing in and waiting for the facts to reveal themselves - though an additional scalpel wouldn't hurt.
The Duke Lacrosse Team Gang Rape is a good example of not rushing in and waiting for the facts to reveal themselves - though an additional scalpel wouldn't hurt.
Reason covered the living hell out of the Duke rape scandal from day one. So, I don't see how that analogy applies.
Time will tell. I think you are grasping for straws here. Lets see. I bet Reason never publishes a single long form article on it or does anything more than maybe give a single hit and run post about it after being shamed into it by people like me.
What do you say we give it until the 1st of the year. If there isn't a long form article from them by then, you admit on here what crap weasel cowards they are and how they didn't deserve the benefit of the doubt. If there is, I admit they were covering it and I should have given them the benefit of the doubt.
Deal?
I was just pointing out that in that case the early 'facts' ended up being lies, and that as the story unfolded the actual facts came to light. It would have behooved those that rushed to demonize the lacrosse team to wait for the actual facts to be known before taking a stance.
Of course, the reason why many didn't was because it supported their narrative at the time. To have waited would have been a lost opportunity regardless of the truth.
The fact that Reason was all over the Duke story from the get go is actually troubling in comparison, so you are right the analogy isn't a good one.
I agree that the absence of the story from Reason is curious - do not mistake that. And Occam's Razor applies - the simplest explanation is an unwillingness to confront a story that challenges sacrosanct beliefs of left libertarians that includes many on the Reason staff. That doesn't mean that there isn't another explanation.
I think you are completely justified in calling them out on it, just as conservatives are justified in calling out the NYT, WaPo, CNN, et al and liberals are justified in calling out WSJ and Fox News.
I'll give them by Oct. 31 to cover it before joining you but I prefer to refrain from name calling.
One last thing: this story reeks of police cover-up just like Hillsborough. That alone seems reason enough to cover it.
I think there was more to it than "they were brown and kind of dangerous" going on here. I think the police were most likely on the take and being paid off by the gangs to look the other way. I totally agree with you about that.
In fact I think you could write a piece about how the right has it wrong. This didn't happen because of fears of racism. The officials are just claiming that to cover up the fact that they were on the take from the gangs.
^^ Look what the cat dragged in.
When's the next DC area meetup?
Will it be the worst ever meetup?
Wouldn't Nicole have to be there for that to happen?
If you meetup 55 miles North of DC, I may show up.
Uhh Maryland blows.
Add three more miles and you should be in Pennsylvanis 🙂
Pennslyvania, New Jersey and Ohio might be the worst.
No, IL is, we have Nicole.
Dont you dare put Yinzer territory in the same category as MD and NJ.
Whoah, at the very least Maryland is better than DC.
Which part?
The parts that do not border DC. And most of Baltimore.
true Annapolis is nice. Baltimore just kind of sets you back.
Baltimore is seriously one of the worst places I have ever been to. I was so happy when the squeeze moved to Silver Spring.
Anyhoo, we're talkin Virginny here. Which is better than DC and MD combined.
Damn straight.
I'm still moving when I get the chance, but I see Virginia sucking in the near future.
My goal would be to get away from large populations of people.
For your average person, Baltimore is a safer, cheaper, more interesting place to live than DC.
Cheaper, yes.
Cheaper, yes.
Unless you are involved in the illegal narcotics industry, Baltimore is absolutely safer than DC. It's not uncommon to hear of people randomly being robbed and assaulted in "nice" neighborhoods in DC, but that doesn't really happen in the "nice" neighborhoods in Baltimore. When it does it's news.
More interesting is a matter of personnel taste. I'll take the rich character of Charm City over the waves of self-important douche-bags any day.
Hey, when you goin Skiing again? Come to Colorado and we can have a mountain meet-up...I don't think sloop likes snow though. I already have my Copper passes.
It is going to be an awesome year I have a feeling with all the global cooling eehh I mean global climate change.
Breckenridge is on my short list, for sure. Would be early Feb.
POTUS Obozo says we need to 'organize' the Arab world.
Organize Arab world
Isn't the problem that we've been trying to 'organize' the Arab world for like 60 years?
Going on 100 years now.
Well, he is a Community Organizer, and the Arab World is arguably a Community in need of Organization, so of course he is arrogant and stupid enough to want to Organize it.
But this time we have the right top men!
Ah, so he's come around. Which of the following will be the method of organization?
? Restoration of the Byzantine Empire.
? Restoration of the Persian Empire.
? Restoration of the Ottoman Empire.
My ancestors helped pacify the eastern provinces of anatolia.
Given a free hand in the east, we can do so again. :E
Re: tarran,
You mean the Romans?
He means Virgil "The Turk" Sollozzo.
Mirthridates Upator.
Community Organizing: not the sharpest tool in the toolbox, but what the hey, right?
So . . . hire a class of political consultant whose chief incentive will be to stir up ethnic conflicts for the next three generations to promote the continued relevance and existence of his job?
It sure would be great if we could find a strongman to run Iraq who really put the fear of Zod into the populace and stood up to Iran and didn't upset the oil markets much.
Yeah, because that worked so well in 1919. It's not like half the problems in the Middle East directly stem from the Paris Peace Conference or anything...
Ummm....
http://www.arableagueonline.org/
Do you not know that the UK is not part of the USA?
No shit. Why should I obsess frantically about domestic sex crimes in England? Unless you believe I should extrapolate from that a dire need to round up all the Pakis in America and put them in concentration camps? Maybe we should castrate them, too. You can't be too careful, and we wouldn't want to waste a chance to terrify the rubes.
Or maybe it has to do with the failure of government and nothing whatsoever to do with the Pakis? Maybe you think it is all about the Pakis. But I am pretty sure it is about the failure of socialism, something a lot of people over here seem to like.
Brooks,
Do you really think the story is just about the Pakis? Are you that big of a fucking racist? Or are you just that big of a socialist that you think socialism would work if we just didn't have those fucking Pakistanis around to mess it up?
Screaming and throwing shit doesn't help. -John
Then why do you do it so often?
LOL
Because I enjoy pointing out things you people don't like. And you are the one who is putting out all the racist things about Pakistanis not me. You are the one who thinks the story is about them not the failure of big government.
It is an attempt to label everyone here an idiot, dumb ass, illiterate, ignorant, etc. And then wonder why people won't pay attention or hold him in slight regard? Manners were ne'er spoke of excepting in a disparaging way, growing up?
I don't label anyone anything they they don't do the same. What happens is, I point out something people don't like but don't have a good response to. So the response is to just start yelling insults like Jordan, Andrew and Sarcasmic did above. Well, I don't take that lying down.
I never insulted anyone. I pointed out that Reason is being just as cowardly about this story as the feminists sites are. Instead of responding to the valid point, the response was to yell "Red Tony". If your answer to an argument is to just yell red tony, you are an idiot and deserved to be called out as much. Go find any place on these threads were someone makes a cogent argument where I don't respond in kind, including agreeing with them where I think they make a good point. You won't. What you will find is that I have no tolerance for the "just yell names and call him a partisan if you don't have a point" and respond in kind. If you can't handle that and think that people who dissent on this board should be intimidated, well that is just too damned bad.
Let's bomb them back to the stone age! Even though that is not possible in a global economy with well-funded black markets, but oh well. We need to justify all those arms appropriation bills by breaking stuff, anyway.
I am pretty sure we could bomb them back to a radioactive parking lot. So there is that.
Well, nuclear bombs are kind of expensive to replace; not so with conventional ordnance.
*Well, nuclear bombs are kind of expensive to replace; not so with conventional ordnance.*
But we've got thousands of nukes that we paid for already, and gosh darnit, I want to see some of them put to use.
Dear John,
Please pull your head out of your ass.
hth.
Dear Brook,
Go fuck yourself and learn to stop thinking every story is about the evil Pakistanis. Some of them are nice people. You should try getting out and meeting them sometime.
This guy got lucky. Normally asserting your rights falls under failure to obey, and we know where that goes.
That totally did not end the way I thought it would. For which I am grateful.
Watched it yesterday. They really were trying to intimidate the guy. I know they made up that shit about "she said you were friends" or "she said he was here." Complete and utter bullshit to try and justify them entering the property.
That is awesome. They changed their whole approach when he said it was being recorded straight to youtube.
I have dreamed of an app called "dead drop" that streams your phone live to a password-protected youtube video. Which password ceases to be required 24 hours after upload unless you log in to tell it otherwise. And there'd be a special page for all the uploads that went past 24 hours so everyone could find them easily.
The USA Detroit has long been run by criminals.

So why is it that they decided to put this one guy in prison out of all the crooks in this country? He's like a Saint compared to Hillary.

Nope. They've transferred their Militant Progressivist Fantasies to Warren. She is their Great White Hope.
