The connection between fascism and homosexuality is long-standing and well-documented.
Yes, an island which served as an ad-hoc concentration camp for gays shows the connection between fascism and homosexuality. *eyeroll*
Do yo believe that shit seriously?
No. But it's always useful citation to yank the chain of our resident neo-reactionary.
This particular neo-reactionary hadn't previoiusly heard about this Johann Hari or his article. Here is the relevant article -

I think the Pink Swastika is/was one of the most awesome pieces of academic bullshit/accidentally hilarious-but-psychotically-sincere nuttery of all time.
The late 80s/early 90s were something of the Peak Retard of Homopanic.
Fascism is an economic system.
It's a political system. Economics are innate, they are the intricate outcomes of human interaction. Politics are constructed by specific institutions and a privy powerful few. Fascism is most certainly not the innate nature of human interaction, it's a politically enforced bastardized version of human interaction.
Was expecting Ernst Rohm
As was I.
I remember the days when one of our resident trolls called all of us R?hmites.
[goes off to Google to figure out who it was]
Ah, Underzog.
In that case I welcome our fabolous overlords... At least they will feel bad about shooting our dogs.
Didn't they do that with San Francisco anyway?
Yes, I'm sure the debate was about whether they were being too obvious about it.
If I recall, SF was accidental. Someone published a syndicated column complaining about homos taking over SF (there wasn't a significantly high pop of 'mos there at the time) and so gays seeing this fled there to find an accepting place. The whole SF is too gay for me! thing ended up becoming self-fulfilling.
Not sure this is true. SF has a long gay history, e.g. Harry Hay. Unless you mean it was a column in the '30s or something.
It certainly wasn't the only thing. Quite a bit of it was discharging a bunch of soldiers in LA and SF after the war, and other factors.
The article I was thinking of was Homos Invade S.F. from the paper The Truth.
Jesse,
Need a cite for this; doesn't ring a bell.
Why would anyone Czech their privilege?
A society of homosexuals? The Greeks already did it
Chiselled into the outcrops of dolomite limestone that dot the cape, the inscriptions have provided invaluable insight into the private lives of those who inhabited archaic and classical Greece. One, believed to have been carved in the mid-sixth century BC, proclaimed: "Nikasitimos was here mounting Timiona (??????????? ???? ???????).
"We know that in ancient Greece sexual desire between men was not a taboo," added Dr Vlachopoulos, who returned to the far-flung island last week to resume work with a team of topographers, photographers, conservationists and students. "But this graffiti ? is not just among the earliest ever discovered. By using the verb in the past continuous [tense], it clearly says that these two men were making love over a long period of time, emphasising the sexual act in a way that is highly unusual in erotic artwork. "
Found at the highest point of the promontory overlooking the Bay of Vathy on the island's north-western tip, the inscription has led the archaeologist to believe that soldiers may once have been garrisoned there.
Two penises engraved into limestone beneath the name of Dion, and dating to the fifth century BC, were also discovered at lower heights of the cape. "They would seem to allude to similar behaviour on the part of Dion."
Imagine all the assumptions future archeologist will make when they come come across artwork and proclaimations on our bar bathroom walls.
People of this time period prided themselves on who gave the best blow jobs.
The Good Time cult had many members across many countries, but all advertised their mysterious offerings in the same way.
For manly love be here March 25th at 2:15 AM sharp.
I'll never forget an inscription carved into the wall of a bathroom stall in high school.
"They paint these walls to cover my pen, but the shithouse poet stricks again."
Yes, "stricks." That's public education for ya.
Here I sit,
Broken hearted.
Tried to shit,
But only farted.
Here I sit, I'm just a bearin'
feels as though my ass was tearin'
didn't know, but now I'm wiser
just gave birth to a supervisor.
Here I sit, on the pooper,
just gave birth to a new state trooper.
This is a song for the broken hearted,
Who came to shit but only farted.

Flush twice, it's a long way to Iran.
Or the oft-seen over-the-urinal classic:
"What are you looking up here for? The joke is in your hand."
And who could forget:
"If your hose is short
And pressure is weak,
Stand up close
So you don't piss on your feet."
Somebody had to do it.
That is pretty gay
Look what they've done! Look what the homosexuals have done to me!
Did they touch your bottom?
Do you know what they're doin to the soil?
I like you Stuart!
You can't just comb that out and reset it?
Finally.
Didn't South Park already cover this with Big Gay Al?
OT: Watch our Secretary of DHS dance, *dance*, DANCE!! 8-(
Here.
'By Rocke's reckoning homosexuality really was pervasive in Florence. In the small city of just 40,000 people, he estimates that 17,000 men were incriminated on charges of "sodomy" during the 70 year existence of the Office of the Night."

I didn't realize IGF had been around that long. Looks like an interesting read.
It was.
Although I wonder how many of those people were actually "gay gay". Seems to me they were so horny they woulda fucked a hippo. Or Michelle. Or Whoopi.
Nigel Farage shows how to deal with scumbag progressives who try to stifle opposing speech.
I don't agree with UKIP on everything, but watching Farage kick leftist ass is one of life's great joys.
I don't agree with anyone on everything.
The Brits Reason hires to slag UKIP really want the Lib-Dems to be the libertarian party in the UK. Only they're as far from it as is Labour and further than even the Tories.
Because other countries don't allow paid surrogacy, gay European couples are now coming to America to have surrogate mothers give birth to their kids.
Two points:
1. Why do those homophobes in Europe not allow gay couples to easily get children through surrogacy? What vile reactionary and hetoronarmative scumbags!
2. So the lack of allowing people to pay for surrogates in Europe resulted in a shortage. Gee, I wonder if this lesson could be applied to other issues like, I don't know, paying for kidneys.
My Body My Choice? (unless you want to sell or rent part of it).
Guess they don't come to Louisiana...
"For the second time in as many years, Governor Bobby Jindal has vetoed a bill that would have made it legal to enter into a contract with a surrogate mother in Louisiana. Both vetoes took place despite enormous support in the state legislature.
In his veto letter Jindal, who is Catholic and considered a likely GOP presidential candidate in 2016, said he had concerns about "how this legislation impacts the way we value human life.'"
http://www.christianpost.com/n.....ps-120732/
If the support is that enormous, why don't they override the veto?
Gives whole new meaning to the term "anchor baby".
"homosexual takeover"? That's so gay!
Important if true:
"Maiduguri (Nigeria) (AFP) - More than 60 women and girls abducted last month by suspected Boko Haram militants in northeast Nigeria have escaped their captors, sources said Sunday....
"[Abbas] Gava, a senior official of the local vigilantes in Borno State who are working closely with security officials, told journalists the women escaped when their captors went out to fight."

No no no no, it's way, WAY better to keep LGBT folks as a minority in an area, so as to keep them permanently aggrieved. That way, they'll have to hitch their wagon to a Team.
There's a new book out - Understanding an Atheist: A Practical Guide to Relating to Nonbelievers, by atheist author Kevin Davis.

Perhaps we can reason with them!
Uh, bleevers don't deal with reason; that's the reason it's call "faith".
"The Obama years: 'The trailers were great, the movie was horrible'...
"Just how bad is it? Since it is summer "blockbuster" season, I'll explain thusly: There's a difference between being bad and being most awesomely bad. You and I probably never even hear of the worst movies made. They are forgotten, not mocked. But the truly disastrous flops - the Water Worlds and Ishtars of the world - are the movies that come with huge budgets and huge expectations.
"Obama fits the latter category - extremely talented and hyped, but ultimately, unsatisfying. True, I've been making this case for a long time - but now, there's evidence."

Ah, but the fantastic twist ending remains to be seen.
He escapes in a balloon and leaves Dorothy behind?
Oops, spoiler alert.
When the dog went to pull back the curtain he was extrajudicially terminated via drone.
It turns out he was the semi-mythical deep cover Russian spy?
Saw the movie.
I beg to differ about the trailer. Most trailers don't call me a racist if I don't want to see the movie.
..." But the truly disastrous flops - the Water Worlds and Ishtars of the world - are the movies that come with huge budgets and huge expectations."...
Nick is arguing, in the O-care propaganda thread, that this makes for great propaganda.
I disagree.
Palestinian-American Teen Beaten By Israeli Police?
"A horrifying video posted online appears to show Israeli police beating a Palestinian-American teenager, shortly after his detention amid protests that were spawned by the murder of his cousin.
Tariq Khdeir, a 15-year-old U.S. citizen from Florida, is a cousin of Mohammed Abu Khdeir, the Palestinian 16-year-old whose abduction and murder has triggered days of protests and riots."

Fucking seriously? Salon and Slate are in a struggle over who can derp the hardest.
And you KNOW that not covering some meds for employees is the equivalent of denying them to the deserving population, right?!
Why can't it be both?

Bull. There are far more Palestinians "sinning" against Israel than Israel punishes.
But in any case, if you try to destroy a country for generations, the people in that country just might get a little testy about it.
So Israeli police brutality is OK?
That's the idea I'm getting from Papaya and Cytotoxic.
Police brutality occurs in America: "Man fuck pigs."
Police brutality occurs in Israel: "Whatever, Palestinians probably deserved it."
If you relentlessly attack people for generations, using everything from conventional armies to disgusting acts of terror, it is understandable when the attacked don't always follow the rules when responding. This is not an excuse, just an explanation.
So no, Irish, I don't think all police brutality is equal. A policeman in the US is not responding to an existential threat. He rarely if ever encounters someone who, if he could, would kill him, his family, and everyone in the country. So there is rarely an understandable reason for police to exceed their legal bounds. Again, this is not to say Israeli should exceed their legal bounds, just that it's more understandable when it happens. Cops have emotions and other human flaws, and I try to cut everyone some slack on those grounds.
But I've given up on the Palestinians. Too much support for too many vile acts, for too long, and too few positive achievements. It's little more than a giant camp of hate-filled, murderous, Jew-hating welfare recipients.
"If you relentlessly attack people for generations, using everything from conventional armies to disgusting acts of terror, it is understandable when the attacked don't always follow the rules when responding. This is not an excuse, just an explanation."
This is literally the EXACT SAME THING that defenders of Palestinian terrorism say. Th

Sorry, accidentally hit submit prematurely. I meant to add on:
The fact that you can make that type of comment without realizing that is astounding.
The fact that Palestinian defenders say the same thing means nothing. A statement can be true in one case and bullshit in another.
And the Israelis haven't been "relentlessly attack[ing] [Palestinians] for generations, using everything from conventional armies to disgusting acts of terror." Maybe Israel was the aggressor in the Suez Crisis, I'm not sure, but they weren't at the partition, or '67, or '72, or most of the rest of their history. And they haven't been hijacking planes, blowing up schools, etc.
"But in any case, if you try to destroy a country for generations, the people in that country just might get a little testy about it."
Oh come on, this is the same bullshit excuse Hamas apologists spew. There is no excuse for the police beating this kid, or for his cousin getting murdered, anymore than there is for the Palestinians who killed the 3 Israeli teenagers.
The world would be so much better off if we had let the Israelis and Arabs fight their war (the one that has been going on since 1948 with hot a cod spells) to a conclusion.
If Israel lost, we all know what happens.
If Israel wins, they would simply boot the Arabs out of Gaza, forcing Egypt, Syria, or Jordan to take them. Some of the West Bank might be annexed to draw defensible borders, the rest would become part of Jordan. Since Jordan doesn't want war with Israel or crazy jihadist groups causing trouble, they would govern the place effectively.
Some Seattle businesses sponsored a petition to roll back the $15.00 per hour minimum wage. The measure will go on the ballot - if the signatures are verified and the charges of petition fraud are settled.
Did the signature-gatherers have to use *fraud* to attack a bad law?

Freedom by any means necessary.
Hey! I kinda like Waterworld....
Martini. Gin. Dirty. Kalamata olives. Shaken, not stirred.

That sucks. I've been drinking for 8 hours.
A friend of mine posted an article on Facebook (he's a bit of an environmentalist, but doesn't bring up politics much in person, and is a pretty fun guy to hang out with) about "coal-rollers," diesel trucks modified to spew a bunch of black smoke. According to the article, some people are doing this to protest Obama and/or environmentalism. From the little I know about them (I can't recall ever seeing one in-person), they seem pretty obnoxious, but the article isn't the reason I'm posting this comment.
In the comments on my friend's post, two people who he knows, but I don't (I don't know if they know each other) got into an argument. The first guy apparently moved from California to Georgia recently, and posted a comment that was something along the lines of how he didn't have an opinion on this, but just wanted to note how different everything was in the South. The second guy posted something about how different lifestyles don't justify abusing the environment, and how the other guy needed to pick a side, because you either care about the environment or you don't. The guy who moved to the South responded that he's tired of picking sides, and that's part of the reason he left California, and that he enjoys the peacefulness of the South. The environmentalist guy responded with this gem (posted below due to post length limits)
"Oh yeah (other person's name)? You're tired of picking sides? I rather be on the side that actually tried to fix things. rather than sit Idly with a bunch of ignorant racist bigots. Moving across the country doesn't make an issue like this less important. The reason you hate choosing sides is because you've never had the balls so stand by what you think. Try it out sometime. See how good it feels. Maybe then you'll feel a bit more peaceful and realize that there is nothing wrong with California. And of course there are still things that haven't changed from the past. Because everyone there turns a blind eye to it. Its too uncomfortable to pay any attention to it. So nothing ever progresses. but I guess you do belong there, thats the attitude that doesn't help build forward."
My diesel truck is chipped and it spews black smoke when I get on it. Of course, it gets 4 MPG better than it did before the chip.
If they only knew what they THINK they know.
Idiots.
Here's the article in case you were interested. Obviously slanted and with an agenda, but assuming they didn't invent the people quoted who do it just to piss people off, I stand by my assertion that in those cases it is obnoxious, but that doesn't mean all use of it is (I obviously don't know if the useful modification to your truck is the same as this, or if there are some modifications that produce no benefit besides spewing smoke, I know nothing about your truck, and not much about "coal-runners"), and the underlying implication of the article and it's headline, that conservatives in general hate the environment, is just stupid. I posted my comment just for the hilarious over-the-top comment on my friend's post

Build Forward, Comrades!
Someone in that conversation is engaging in stereotyping, and it ain't the guy who left California.
I suppose it's progress that people don't get accused of being "counter-revolutionary" anymore, just for making voluntaryist proposals.
They get accused of the equivalent, it's just that the term isn't used.
So, when people say 'this is the gayest thing since gay came to gaytown", *this* is the town they're talking about?
