Pu Zhiqiang's defense of individuals sentenced to forced labor camps brought pressure on the Chinese government, which led it to abolish the camps last year. But police recently arrested the human rights lawyer, charging him with "picking quarrels and creating a disturbance," after he attended a seminar marking the 25th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre. A state-run newspaper said he'd crossed a "red line" by attending the event.
