Brickbat: Are You a Goer? Are You a Sport?

|

Parents of a girl who attends California's Woodland Park Middle School are upset about one classroom exercise that called on her and other students to stand under signs indicating how far they have gone sexually on a date. The signs read "smiled at, hugged, kissed, above the waist, below the waist, and all the way." The school's principal told a local TV station that they got the idea from a local clinic and have been doing the exercise for several years.

  1. Some might say an adult asking a 14 year old girl about how far she’ll go sexually is creepy, but … er…

    1. Yeah, it’s creepy.

      1. Very disturbingly creepy.

    2. on the creepy scale of 1-10, it’s an 11.

      1. It’s official: Creepy.

        1. Someone should have dropped a dime to CPS.

          1. Child Prostitution Services?

  2. I’m trying to come up with some kind of logic chain that would make this exercise appear marginally educational – without RTFA.

The best I can come up with is ‘the design of sociology studies’ or maybe ‘who’s the whore?’

    1. From the article:

School officials say the goal of the activity was to discuss what is appropriate for dating at the middle school level.

So it is a “who’s the whore” exercise.

      1. Perhaps the school administration should attend an exercise intended to.discuss what personal questions are appropriate to ask at the.middle school level.

      2. Do they get a tatoo or an W sewn to their clothing?

        1. Well, it is a badge of honor.

      3. School officials say the goal of the activity was to discuss what is appropriate for dating at the middle school level.

It is hard for me to believe that America has fallen to the point that the existence of such a program and it’s obvious usurpation of parental authority over their own children does not have every single parent in the district going fucking bananas.

      4. and this is the school’s business because?

        1. “The purpose of the lesson was to open the lines of communication between parents and students about dating expectations.”

          Sheesh, wareagle, RTFA!

  3. The signs read “smiled at, hugged, kissed, above the waist, below the waist, and all the way.”

What, no “my body, my.choice” or “fuck off with your inappropriate questions about.my personal life?”

    1. They only regard it as your choice after you’ve blundered into an unexpected pregnancy.

      1. This. “Choice” and “abortion” are synonyms. This is what many people of my acquaintance actually believe.

        1. They’re still confused and upset about the idea of school abortion. What does it even mean?

  4. “The school’s principal told a local TV station that they got the idea from a local clinic and have been doing the exercise for several years.”

Does it occur to the principal that the people attending whatever the clinic is doing are there by choice and the students in his school are not? That might change the dynamic of the appropriateness of asking rather personal questions?

    1. What kind of clinic? How about from a local sex toy shop? They must have a couple of good ideas too.

    2. “Does it occur to the principal that the people attending whatever the clinic is doing are there by choice and the students in his school are not?”

No, proggies are blind to that distinction. See, Walmart selling your something is the same as the government taxing you!

  5. School officials say the goal of the activity was to discuss what is appropriate for dating at the middle school level.

The officials then quietly tossed the MFK signs into the dumpster behind the school.

    1. My guess is that the event provided a tingle in the genital regions of the administrators.

    2. Lol

    1. And furthermore I suggest that you are none other than Ron Higgins, professional Cardinal Richelieu impersonator.

  6. The teen’s parents say … an anonymous survey would have been less intrusive. “They need to have it on paper, no names on it they can do it at their desk and put it in a private box if the school really wants to know.”

    “‘No names’?! FTS!!”

    /Principal Lecherous McCreepy

    1. Why are the teen’s parents OK with even that? None of this is the responsibility of the school. English, math, science, social studies, maybe even art and gym. But this societal crap is none of their business.

      1. You’ve never seen that dynamic?

        – Someone acts in a completely outrageous fashion.
        – They get criticized.
        – They act surprised and pretend what they’re doing is completely normal. They insinuate the critics are being unreasonable.
        – The critics propose a compromise to avoid being seen as extreme.
        – The compromise becomes the new normal.

        Until the cycle repeats again.

  7. “On the bright side, our teacher did the exercise with us. Miss Fox is a real *sport*!”

  8. These educators are all credentialed experts. You wouldn’t second-guess a neurosurgeon, would you? Well, an Education or Child Development degree is like a medical degree…how many degrees do the so-called parents have?

    1. The dirty little secret (maybe not to people here) is that education majors are the worst students in any University. Even one of my retired linguistics, Chomsky loving, 911 Truther colleagues agrees.

      1. The School of Education classes are where science & technology majors go to punch up their gpa without having to do any work.

  9. I would sock a teacher in the mouth if he asked my daughter questions like that.

  10. Earlier stories said the sign indicated how far they WOULD go, not how far they HAVE gone. Which is right?

    1. Grooming?

Imagine the reaction if some Catholic priests had arranged this sort of lineup with a bunch of altar boys.

      1. Public school = Protestant school.

  11. Middle school teachers ask pupils if they are DTF.

  12. “OrlandoPerez

no all of u people r wrong i was in that class and it only had to do on wat u would do if u were to go on a date with ur partner then the teacher asked us wat ur parents would have expected if we were to date someone. Thats the main piont of the lesson and u were supposed to stand in each category where u think u should be at when dating someone so…..its not the teachers fault or the districts and nobody i know had a problem with this activity”

While im not going to put words in the mouth of this young Shakespeare, it seems from comments that reports of the sexual shaming of junior-high teens has been somewhat…premature.

Apparently they were asked ‘what they thought was appropriate’ for dating, then what they believed their ‘parents thought’.

I of course in grade 8 would have protested, “Why are there no Bondage-options?”
