Brickbat: You Have the Right To Remain Silent

Kalyb Primm Wiley, a second grader in Kansas City, admits he started screaming after other students began taunting him. But he says the school resource officer should not have put him in handcuffs when he took him to the principal's office. A school spokesperson said the officer followed proper procedures and the handcuffs were necessary to protect Kalyb and other students.

They're beating us to it
The school resource officer's had no choice, his hands were tied.
The SRO made it home safely to his family. That's all that matters.
We joke about these generic talking points that, obviously, every law enforcement agency has taped to their podiums and little cards handed out to every officer.
I assumed I'd find some handout by law enforcement cabals and unions. Found some department handbooks but no '3 phrases to repeat after beating to death a negro' kind of thing. Kind of disappointing.
As a good progressive, I blame inadequate school funding.
Properly funded schools would have on-site electroshock therapy, sterilization facilities, and icepicks to handle difficult cases like Kalyb.
He said after his classmates teased and taunted him, he started screaming but never got physical with other students or teachers.
I don't recall that axiom about using your words and not your fists being followed by "and then get handcuffed."
When you thought they said you should have "monocle" what they said was "manacle."
? I'd rather have a monocle in front of me, than have my hands manacled in back of me,
I may be an evil capitalist but at least I don't go to public school ?
Off to the pricipal's office with you then
They have taken him out of school and plan on moving their son to another district.
Best of luck finding a public school with different "policies."
There will be no curiosity, no enjoyment of the process of life. All competing pleasures will be destroyed. But always ? do not forget this, Winston ? always there will be the intoxication of power, constantly increasing and constantly growing subtler. Always, at every moment, there will be the thrill of victory, the sensation of trampling on an enemy who is helpless. If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stampinghead slamming on a human facedesk ? forever.
the handcuffs were necessary to protect Kalyb
You just know the protection involved is that the handcuffs prevent Kalyb from making any furtive movements toward his waistband.
Dude makes a lot of senmse man, I mean like seriously.

If you are one of these ever present school resource "officers", you should be ashamed of yourself.
Go do something productive with your life and stop being a public nuisance.
Vice Squad is where you go when you screw the pooch on the street.
SRO is where you go when you screw the pooch in Vice.
The kid wsa just trying to stand up to "bullying"*, and look what the state did to him.
*The State has moral-panicked the definiton of "bullying" down to where this has to fit the definition, since it's no different from the "cyberbullying" that goes on on the Internet.
You guys just don't understand what the schools are facing these days. A second grader is seven years old. Seven!
He'll be able to play on a full-fledged little league baseball team in just a couple of years! As it is, he can play in a coach-pitch league where they use actual metal baseball bats! Those bats weigh 15 to 17 ounces! Think of that! This 7 year old has experience wielding a dangerous weapon that weighs a whole pound! This is the kind of weapon that might be featured on America's Funniest Home Videos sending a father crashing to the ground holding his privates! Kids these days are much more dangerous!
Dear God you're right. Someone should just shoot him now and prevent his murderous future rampage
I'll go get the silver colored cellphone so the blue lanterns can say they saw a gun.
It's spelled Steelers and really she was only underage for the drinking not the grope in the club's bathroom. No handcuffs necessary for the kids or Ben. And isn't playing behind that offensive line punishment enough really?
But according to Kalyb, handcuffs are not for kids and only for the bad guys. "Criminals, robbers, bank robbers, stealers," the second grader said.
You don't get it, Kalyb. You *are* a criminal.
When they kick in your classroom door
How you gonna come?
With your hands on your head
Or on the wrapper of your gum?
When "safety officer" break in
How you gonna go?
Tasered in the hallway
Or waiting on principal row?
... as performed by Justin Bieber
I remember reading about how fighting bulls which had been in the ring and faced a matador couldn't be allowed to fight a second time. They learned so much, so fast, they would assassinate whatever unfortunate boob they faced afterward. This kid should be locked away for life, because he has learned his lesson.
HE KNOWS TOO MUCH.
RAGING BULLOCK!
the handcuffs were necessary to protect Kalyb and other students.
Why waste all that energy thinking when there are talking points to be said.
Sending your kid to public school is child abuse. I blame the parents.
Speeeeaking of the "right to remain silent", certainly everyone here knows that the "Supreme" Court proceeded to nullify that part of the Constitution last year? These old clowns now insist that the "right to remain silent" requires the accused to BREAK SILENCE (http://tinyurl.com/pr4w4nv). Personally, I don't believe that robed strangers (operating in a windowless room where cameras aren't allowed) *own* any of us.
