Steve Chapman on NSA Surveillance and the Dangers of Power
At one time, points out Steve Chapman, Barack Obama ran against an incumbent president who championed the surveillance state—but then announced that he was more trustworthy than his predecessor to exercise such powers. The fact that Obama trusted himself with these powers is ample reason the rest of us shouldn't. Now, the president finally said he wants to finally put domestic phone records collection under tighter control than before. It's about time.
