A pro-life student group at Connecticut's Branford High School says their principal won't let them use model fetuses in a display. "He tells us that this topic in particular is too controversial to be talked about in public school," said Samantha Bailey-Loomis, founder of the Students for Life Club.

Speaking of abortions, apparently that is true of Michael Bay movies at my house. Last night I saw an ad for 'Transformers CCVII - Return of the Same Plot' and groaned. Then I mumbled something remarkably like "Goddammit! How many times is he going to remake the same movie?". My wife, who loves the Transformer movies began chastising me. I knew then I was going to have to paint eyes on the outside of my lids and sleep through the damn thing.

What I wanna know is who are these people who love the franchise so much they feel the need to put the transformer decal/badge on their cars? I mean I'm a child of the 70/80s and grew up in front of the tv on Sat morning getting my optimus prime fix, but I just don't get the point of decorating ones car with it... EVEN if you feel the modern version is watchable.

I see cars with Transformer white window decals all the time. Saw one Saturday that caught my attention only because I couldn't figure out the other thing on there.

Most people are very casual about what they stick on the back of the car. One of the cars here sports a "dancing Snoopy" because it's a popular car that doesn't change appearance much between model years.

A tattoo? That's a different story. Then again, I'm one of those people who considers a tattoo to be something left over from a concentration camp.

Public education is a disgrace. These kids will learn about historical figures who were dynamic and expressive and those who defied the rule of law in order to create a better state while being discouraged by educators to avoid replicating these same traits.

How is this any more controversial than what's normally covered in sex ed? Also, defenders of American public education keep saying that one of its glories is teaching critical thought. If I wanted to defend American public education, I'd fervently pray to whatever gods may be that no one ever brought up the topic of critical thought.

A better question would be - would these be OK for biology class? Assuming the answer is yes. So why not for a school club? No genitalia, no icky aborted fetuses.

I'm calling cowardice on the principal, which is pretty much par for the course for that sort.

I'd venture to say that "sometimes" is probably closer to "always". Certainly contraception and abortion are covered in such classes. Unless my middle and high school education (at a private Christian school no less) was particularly unique. Fetuses in various stages of development are somewhat germane to that topic.

I can't help but admire the hypocrisy. They'll ban images of fetuses for use in provoking discussion on abortion, but these same "educators" will be out protesting a pay freeze with hanging effigies of their republican governor and placards that say Gov, So-So wants to "KILL EDUCATION" and "HURT CHILDREN". But that is OK because the cause is "righteous" ie their own.
