North Korea launched four short range missiles off its east coast, according to a South Korean defense official. Earlier this month saw the first (temporary) reunions between South and North Koreans since 2010. This followed the highest-level talks between South and North Korea in years. The talks came about after North Korea sent a "reconciliation" letter South Korea said it ignored.

North Korea continues to hold American Kenneth Bae, and others, in detention. The U.S. tried to send an envoy to secure Bae's release, but North Korea canceled that planned visit.

A recent UN report blasted the hermit communist regime in North Korea for its "unparalleled" human rights abuses.
