Bob Gates Defends Obama Criticisms in Memoir
Says waiting till 2017 wouldn't have served anyone
Former defense secretary Robert M. Gates defended his criticism of President Obama's handling of the Afghanistan war while the president is in office and troops are still fighting, saying he thought it important to be candid in his new memoir.
"I don't think that waiting until 2017 to weigh in on these issues, and in a comprehensive and thoughtful way, made any sense," he told CBS's "Sunday Morning."
