Pizza Hut Manager Says He Was Fired For Refusing to Keep Store Open on Thanksgiving Day
Chinese take-out is a Thanksgiving tradition, not pizza
A Pizza Hut manager got in deep trouble for dishing it out to his superiors — telling them to shut their pie holes.
Tony Rohr, 28, says he got fired for refusing to open his restaurant in Elkhart, Ind. on Thanksgiving because he didn't want to force his employees to miss out on family time.

Know yer places, peons! Ye are pee-ons, BEYOND being peed-on... Git yerself a GUV-MINT job, and THEN ye'll be in the clear, an' rake down the monies.... PLUS retiremint...
So maybe offer a bonus? Use employees that don't have families? (Not all that rare, actually)
Unless you're talking about replicants someone without A family would be quite rare...
Not at all. I meet people almost every day who are either from orphan stock or have become so separated from family that they are for all practical purposes "without family."
College kids...I was too far from home and too broke to go home for the holidays. I loved working and double time plus uber tips from toasted customers made life beautiful for me for several months.
What kind of loser eats at Pizza Hut on Thanksgiving anyways?
He's fired. Properly.
Don't like to work retail hours? Go find another job.
Properly? Yes. But also stupidly. Odds are he had correctly judged both the profitability of opening on Thanksgiving, Low and the likely effect on employee morale, also Low.
"and the likely effect on employee morale, also Low."
Gee, just got back from picking up a paper at Starbucks. Employees were cheerful; seems they realize that retail sales means working when you can sell something.
If you don't like that, maybe you should find a job elsewhere.
Starbucks employees - or any retail employee - HAVE to act like they are cheerful, even if their kid is dying of leukemia. Otherwise, the boss gets on their ass. So your anecdatum is moot.
TBS, if you are the manager, you have to do what the powers that be insist upon. If they say open on Thanksgiving, you open on Thanksgiving. So this guy was properly fired for cause.
However, from my own experience, I have never seen any of the execs who insist that their employees work on holidays actually come in to work themselves on those holidays.
"However, from my own experience, I have never seen any of the execs who insist that their employees work on holidays actually come in to work themselves on those holidays."
And?
And nothing.
But I can still resent the fact that TPTB are willing to order others to do what they would not do themselves.
Well, I pay to have someone haul away my garbage.
You've made the assumption that they themselves wouldn't be in. I know that fits the us verses them narrative but it assumes facts not in evidence.
If the powers that be were really concerned a simply cost benefit analysis should have made it clear that it would cost more to be open than they were likely to make.
Well it looks like he'll have plenty of family time now.
until I looked at the check which was of $4814, I be certain that...my... mom in-law could actually bringing home money in there spare time on-line.. there aunt started doing this for under 20 months and at present cleared the debts on their appartment and got a top of the range Ford Mustang. why not try this out

Good, no one should have to put up with an insubordinate employee. Also, I applaud Pizza Hut for serving its customers on Thanksgiving.
I've run several pizza shops for major chains, very successfully, I might add, and anyone that opens on T-day is an idiot. There. Is. No. Business.
Which is an entirely different issue.
Indeed. The owner of this shop is most likely a franchisee, and apparently was looking for an excuse to fire his manager.
My, you certainly have an active imagination!
Yeah, that's why he talked about it. I know you want to shoehorn in your "WORK ON THANKSGIVING OR DIE" narrative, though. Go do that now!
Screw your family, pizza boy, if you're not sitting down to share a meal with your enemies then you are missing the true meaning of Thanks Giving anyways.
