Why a Powerless Female Figurehead Might Still Cure Hamas' Misogyny: Shikha Dalmia in TIME
Hamas, the militant Palestinian group that rules over Gaza, picked Isra al-Modallal, a woman, as its spokesperson for

the first time ever to spruce up its image in the Western press. But Reason Foundation Senior Analyst Shikha Dalmia notes that Isra will mostly be a figure head who will use her British-accented English to recite narrow talking points crafted by Hamas' Islamist patriarchs. Hence, notes Dalmia:
This 23-year-old British-educated, divorced mother of a toddler girl is unlikely to do much for the Palestinian struggle against Israel, as Hamas wants. She will, however, be great for the struggle of Muslim women against Islamic repression.

Speed Sisters: Palestinian female yobs drifting

Yes, but what is Hamas' stance on transgendered students using the women's restroom?
I think it's along the lines of "burn the student"
Hamas would have them beheaded, rendering the restroom question moot.

Huh. OK, so I have some thinking to do before scheduling my vacation in the Gaza Strip.
Lena Dunham is going to "cure" Hamas? Yeah, maybe by making them all go gay (NTTAWWT).
One can argue that having a liberated, Westernized career woman represent it in international settings is pure hypocrisy on Hamas' part.
That's not an "argument". That's a statement of fact. Hamas is antithetical women's rights. How is this even a discussion?
She is explicitly barred from wading into sensitive issues involving Hamas' terrorist attacks on Israel
Don't worry your pretty little head about the blown up babies there sweetie. We'll handle that stuff. You go bitch about the Jews in front of the Western Media.
Dalmia, despite being racially Indian, represents left-wing, western cultural assumptions. As a feminist, she automatically assumes that if an Arab women is educated in the West, even if she joins a known terrorist group, she must disagree with "misogyny," despite obvious statements to the contrary.
Fun fact: in most of the Middle Eastern countries which have religious parties and women's suffrage, the bulk of the women's vote goes to those parties.
You can get invited to more cocktail parties with a kind word and a left-wing, western cultural assumption than you can with just a kind word.
Pretty much.
What is the position that libertarians take on the state of Israel? Should it be allowed to exist and refuse to let non-Jews immigrate? Or should it be held to the same standards that western countries are held to?
The latter.
It's none of our business.
What's the libertarian position on Mexico? Should it be allowed to exist and refuse to let non-Mexicans immigrate?
Should it be allowed to exist and refuse to let non-Jews immigrate? Or should it be held to the same standards that western countries are held to?
These two sentences are in contradiction, American.
@Marshal Gill, Let me rephrase the question. Libertarians believe that the people have a natural human right to migration, and they argue against immigration restrictions in Western countries. Should Israel be allowed to only let Jews unconditionally immigrate, or should it have the same policies the west has, blind to ethnicity?
Should Israel be allowed to only let Jews unconditionally immigrate, or should it have the same policies the west has, blind to ethnicity?
A false dilemma, what a surprise. Which countries are not "allowed" to control their own immigration? The question of what Israel should do, is of course, up to them.
Exactly which countries have immigration policies that are blind to ethnicity?
A 23 year old Western-educated woman? I wonder what her Twitter account says?
"OMG guys with beards are so hot #sexy"
"I'd fight harder to liberate the homeland if only I could find a form-fitting bomb that matches my dress."
"If Jews are so clever, how do you account for Sarah Silverman?"
For #3 - it's "America's toxic stupidity overrides most natural capacities"
Is this a parody? Hamas doesn't need to be 'cured' it needs to be destroyed.
I happen to speak Arabic, and currently live in an Arabic speaking, muslim country and I've never heard her family name, Al-Modollal. It's possible it's more popular in another (although nearby)region, but I still thought there must be something to this, since the only meaning I knew for the word is "the deceptive/deceitful one". Since the "d" has two possible corollaries in Arabic, I tried the other. Neither are good, which is weird, becuase names are almost always positive in some way.
Interesting point.
She will, however, be great for the struggle of Muslim women against Islamic repression.
Much like Vidkun Quisling was great for the struggle of the Norwegian people against Nazi repression.
