California's Serra High School has suspended a coach, an assistant coach and a teacher after finding they attended a non-school Halloween event in blackface. The three were dressed as the Jamaican bobsled team of "Cool Runnings" fame.

So the guy who dressed as a fat Canadian got a pass?

  2. Jaybirdmojo   12 years ago

Huh. If I had to pick a state that still had teachers who would say "sure, let's go out in blackface!" in response to a coach's suggestion that they do so as a group, I'd pick a different state than California.

    1. Francisco d Anconia   12 years ago

They didn't go as "blackface", they went as they guys from Cool Runnings.

"Let's find one more inane act to be outraged about."

God, I'm sick of PC. I wonder how much longer this bullshit can go on without backlash?

Marten said the employees' actions represented a "critical teachable moment," and would serve as a reminder of the importance of "appreciating multiple perspectives."

I don't think perspective can be found anywhere near this incident.

    1. Atanarjuat   12 years ago

Hey, uptight humorless fuckfaces have a perspective too, it's just that their perspective is wrong.

    2. Night Elf Mohawk   12 years ago

How about the perspectives of the guys from the actual bobsled team, who said it was flattering. Maybe Marten could stand to be taught about appreciating multiple perspectives.

      1. Rich   12 years ago

        Check your privilege, NEM.

The guys from the actual bobsled team are so oppressed they can't possibly realize they are being racially mocked.

        1. PM   12 years ago

          False consciousness!

    3. Doctor Whom   12 years ago

And by "multiple perspectives" I mean "my perspective and no others."

    4. Bill Dalasio   12 years ago

You know, that kind of smug blather just makes this story all the more galling. If you're going to be a self-important asshole who wants to dictate your employees' private lives, at least have the basic dignity to shut the hell up about it.

  5. Almanian!   12 years ago

So this is a black mark on these people's work history. They're blackballed, blacklisted and black flagged. They walk around with a black cloud hanging over them. Their mood is probably black.

Hopefully they can black this from their minds and go on, hopefully having learned a most-valuable lesson: Americans are offended by black people doing "winter" sports.

    1. Lord Humungus   12 years ago

      omg, so racist!

      1. anarch   12 years ago

        That's white of you.

  6. The Late P Brooks   12 years ago

they attended a non-school Halloween event in blackface.

    SOCIAL JUSTICE has no boundaries.

"We found nothing funny when we saw that picture was posted," Wilson said

as she chewed on her lip to avoid giggling.

  8. creech   12 years ago

In that getup they probably would have been enthusiastically invited to a school assembly to preach to the students if it had been Black History Week.

  9. Greg   12 years ago

    'Nuff people say!
    You know they can't believe
California, we have a blackface team!

  10. Apple   12 years ago

Is an Obama mask considered "blackface"?

If not, I can see a market for a generic, African featured mask that can be worn by members of other races on Halloween as a workaround. I'm too lazy to do the work myself, so whoever runs with this idea can just toss a royalty check my way every now and then. Thanks.
