TIME Executive Editor Michael Duffy has defended the magazine's recent cover, which includes a silhouetted photo of Christie (who was re-elected as New Jersey's governor on Tuesday) and the caption "Elephant in the Room."

Time Magazine Executive Editor Michael Duffy took to the airwaves last night to defend his magazine's most recent cover, which has sparked outrage this week for its thinly veiled shot at Gov. Chris Christie's weight.

The cover features a silhouetted photo of the governor beside the caption "Elephant in the Room." After the cover was revealed yesterday, the Twittersphere erupted with condemnation for the magazine.

"Whether or not one likes Christie, these cheap shots--like Time's new cover--about his weight are decidedly uncool," tweeted New York Times reporter Steven Greenhouse.

Where would you get such a silly idea? Bacon doesn't make you fat. It processes mean and lean in the human body. Carbs, depending on your body type, you eat more than a hundred cals at a setting, the remainder will not properly digest and instead accumulate as stored fat on your body mass.

That depends. Fat women are below racial minorities, but above working moms. Fat men are somewhere between smokers and registered sex offenders.

I'd say it depends on what kind of statist legislation is up on the table. If you're trying to expand the ADA, fat people are victims who can't help it, and anybody who makes fun of one is an evil bigot. OTOH, if you're trying to socialize medicine, fat people are irresponsible hoarders who only care about themselves and need to be controlled.

I just looked at the cover picture, and it is pretty damn funny. His head looks like it could be used as a cannonball.

He really should consider trying to drop a couple of tons. It's going to be a borderline actuarial miracle if he makes it to November 2016 without dying of a heart attack.

Sorry, but the only problem I can muster with the Christie fat jokes is that they're old. The guy's bee governor for four years now. And Jon Corzine was making jokes about his weight during the campaign. Christie's fat. Everyone knows it. I'm sure Christie knows it. Yeah, it was funny for a while. But, at this point? Why bother?
