In Wales, the Swansea University student union has banned a pole-dancing fitness class. Union officials say pole dancing is linked to the "sex industry" and it "upholds and bolsters sexist attitudes and behaviors."

    say police dancing

Does this have anything to do with "footloose"?

    1. H. ReardEn   12 years ago

Lardo Sardo is writing Brickbat articles under the name of Charles Oliver.

      1. UnCivilServant   12 years ago

I miss WomSom, it had better humor value than Lardo Sardo.

      police dancing

I think it has something to do with obscene advances towards dogs.

  2. invisible furry hand   12 years ago

This is just discrimination. Poles need love too

    1. BakedPenguin   12 years ago

I know you're a girl ifh, so I get why you didn't link to a picture of say, her, but for the other women and gay guys, you could have at least linked to a good looking guy.

      1. invisible furry hand   12 years ago

I wasn't feeling altruistic, just puckish. But you have shamed me. Behold Piotr Adamski

        1. Night Elf Mohawk   12 years ago

          What's "YMCA" in Polish?

        2. BakedPenguin   12 years ago

          ...you have shamed me

I'll do that, because I'm a horrible person. But I'm sure the women and gay guys who follow will thank you.

        3. Agammamon   12 years ago

Dear lord! That picture makes me feel a little confused and flustered.

  3. Jquip   12 years ago

Artificial scarcity in the horizontal market. Fear the might of the Guild of Bearded Clams.

    1. Live Free or Diet   12 years ago

They just create the Black Market.

Great name for a cat house, huh?

  4. Acosmist   12 years ago

You women are too stupid to understand that this practice promotes sexism, so we have to step in to stop you.

    1. Swiss Servator, I got nothing.   12 years ago

      Their bodies, their choice?!

      1. Bean Counter   12 years ago

If THEY like your choice, you can keep it.

      2. Doctor Whom   12 years ago

You just don't get it, do you? "Choice" means abortion and only abortion.

  5. JidaKida   12 years ago

Sounds like a solid polan to me dude.

I see what you (almost) did there, anonybot.

    2. Rich   12 years ago

      JidaKida, that's jsut too sophisticated.

Sadly, I'm beginning to think you may really be a human.

      1. Sigivald   12 years ago

You know, it would be trivial in theory for Reason to just detect the URL of his link and silently kill the comments...

Therefore - paranoid mode engaged! - they're in on it.

How much is Privacy Road paying you, Gillespie? HUH?

  6. Zombie Jimbo   12 years ago

    From the article

...inextricably linked to the multi-million pound sex industry...

Take a lot of pole dancers to reach several million pounds

    1. Swiss Servator, I got nothing.   12 years ago

We could give them each a platter of sausage rolls to speed things up?

      1. UnCivilServant   12 years ago

        No, no, no.

But if you assume that the average woman weighs in somewhere between 100 and 150 pounds (note, I said average) - I'll use 100 because it makes math easier - then it'll only take 20,000 pole dancers before we're past two million pounds. I think we can find 20k dancers, even in just the UK.

    2. Agammamon   12 years ago

      Not in Britain.

  7. Bill Dalasio   12 years ago

"Union officials say police dancing is linked to..."

...dog shootings with a demi-pointe and plie?

    1. jester   12 years ago

Apparently the tech Cupertinos still haven't corrected the spell check.

  8. jester   12 years ago

Sexist attitudes. Like there is only one kind of girl in the entire world and there is only one proper way to court her? Talk about intolerant and sexist. So there is only one way to be feminine? Fuck off, sex slaver.

  9. Night Elf Mohawk   12 years ago

Maybe, like hearing dogwhistles might make you the dog, thinking that this "upholds and bolsters sexist attitudes and behaviors" when the women involved don't, makes you the sexist.

  10. 0x90   12 years ago

    What's wrong with being sexy?

    1. UnCivilServant   12 years ago

      It others us uglies.

    2. Rich   12 years ago

It makes women into one-dimensional caricatures of themselves.

      1. Almanian!   12 years ago

        faaaaaaaaaaaaag!

        /Cartman

      2. Rich   12 years ago

        NTTAWWT!

      3. Bill Dalasio   12 years ago

What's a one-dimensional caricature? To be able to see the caricature it would have to be at least in two dimensions.

    3. Mainer2   12 years ago

      What's wrong with being sexy?

      +11

  11. Eduard van Haalen   12 years ago

A ban on pole dancing? So polka clubs are fronts for prostitution?

  12. FreeRoamer   12 years ago

I can just imagine what some of these student union women behind this idiotic ban look like. Sorry but any workout that encourages women to wear sky high heels with leg warmers should be celebrated. And I say that as a woman. Being and feeling sexy is a good thing.

  13. Sigivald   12 years ago

What we need here is to get the SlutWalk contingent to oppose the AntiSex contingent.

With any luck they'll mutually annihilate and maybe people there can get on with "learning".

(Well, okay, that's unlikely, but at least they'll be too busy in-fighting to bother other people, in either direction.

I used to think Student Government was purely bad, but then I realized it kept the sort of people who like Student Government busy, in a way that basically lets them only bother themselves and people who care what they think.

    And that's usually a win.

The only problem here is that someone let Those People control class selection...)
