Progressives are up in arms over the possibility that the Supreme Court might rob the country of another tool for the protection of minorities and the poor. Few, though, seem to have considered progressivism's own culpability in the case. As A. Barton Hinkle explains, thanks to the liberal bloc of the Court granting local government the broad power to take property in the name of economic development, a proposed redevelopment in the Philadelphia suburb of Mount Holly threatens to raze homes and displace the neighborhood's predominantly black and Latino residents.
