Will the food be properly labeled?
No one will likely show up. There are only 3 libertarians in all of Maryland and I’m not going.
People still live in Maryland?
Why?
I wonder what % of MD residents are employed at some level of government, or work for a company who’s business is largely predicated on government contracts. The number would probably be stunning.
I’d imagine somewhere around 50% are employed in DC alone.
I do it for the crabcakes.
There are more, but those I am aware of practice their rites in secret to avoid drawing attention to their heretical beliefs.
Sanger, eh?
I know. Sanger supported eugenics.
You know who else supported eugenics?
Yeah, my favorite eugenicist. No libertarian should be without a well thumbed copy of “Women and the New Race”.
“The most merciful thing that a large family does to one of its infant members is to kill it.”
Margaret Sanger, Women and the New Race (Eugenics Publ. Co., 1920, 1923)
Will there be a panel where Sanger says she wants to exclude and sterilize those “whose condition is known to be detrimental to the stamina of the race”? Asking for a friend.
It was the style at the time, like tying an onion to your belt.
You know who else thought whites were superior to dark skinned races, and supported the use of eugenics to improve the human race?
The late senator Robert Byrd?
Registrar of the Virginia Bureau of Vital Statistics, Walter Ashby Plecker?
I assume your friend is Tulpa?
No way. Bo Cara gets too jealous for that.
Of course Tulpa is deathly afraid of concentration camps for morons.
concentration camps for morons.
I feel like that has something to do with trying to make the shaped blocks fit in their respective holes.
You mock her, but the world would undoubtedly be a better place if internet trolls had their last generation.
Who’s worse: The trolls, or those who feed them?
Sterilize one with the other.
What’s worse? Internet trolls or people who thought people should be murdered or sterilized forcibly?
It’s amazing how pure evil can be just brushed aside. Eugenics is certainly one of the worst things the human race has ever done, and yet there is so much apology for it it’s crazy.
What: Brown-Bag Lunch with Peter Bagge!
Really? No “Brown-Bagge Lunch?” I am disappointed, Gillespie.
What: Brown-Bag Lunch with Peter Bagge!
Really? RACIST! I am disappointed, Gillespie.
From *The Woman Rebel,* July 1914:
“On July 4th, three revolutionists, Caron, Berg and Hanson, were killed by the explosion of dynamite–sacrificed because of their willingness to risk life for their convictions. This tragedy created a wonderful spirit of loyalty and solidarity among their comrades. It ought to have awakened the same spirit among all those who advocate the overthrow of the present system–at least among those agitators and leaders who urge direct and revolutionary tactics against the master class….
“If the so-called revolutionary labor movement must justify its actions at the bar of the very public opinion and morality that have created and sustained laws against labor, it is a wishywashy, milk-and-watery, weakneed movement at best. If it cannot accept as possible and inevitable and valuable among its ranks such men as Berg, Caron and Hanson–if, in short, it is not moving in the direction of REVOLUTION, it is time for us to build up a movement that is.”

In the Feb 1919 *Birth Control Review,* she explained why she supported birth control:
“While I personally believe in the sterilization of the feeble-minded, the insane and syphilitic, I have not been able to discover that these measures are more than superficial deterrents when applied to the constantly growing stream of the unfit. They are excellent means of meeting a certain phase of the situation, but I believe in regard to these, as in regard to other eugenic means, that they do not go to the bottom of the matter.”

Birth Control Review, April 1932:
“A Plan for Peace
“by MARGARET SANGER
First, put into action President Wilson’s fourteen points, upon which terms Germany and Austria surrendered tothe Allies in 1918. Second, have Congress set up a special department for the study of population problems andappoint a Parliament of Population, the directors representing the various branches of science: this body to directand control the population through birth rates and immigration, and to direct its distribution over the countryaccording to national needs consistent with taste, fitness and interest of individuals. The main objects of the Population Congress would be:
“a) to raise the level and increase the general intelligence of population.
“b) to increase the population slowly by keeping the birth rate at its present level of fifteen per thousand, decreasing the death rate below its present mark of 11 per thousand.
“c) to keep the doors of immigration closed to the entrance of certain aliens whose condition is known to bedetrimental to the stamina of the race, such as feebleminded, idiots, morons, insane, syphilitic, epileptic, criminal, professional prostitutes, and others in this class barred by the immigration laws of 1924.
“d) to apply a stern and rigid policy of sterilization and segregation to that grade of population whose progeny is tainted, or whose inheritance is such that objectionable traits may be transmitted to offspring.
“e) to insure the country against future burdens of maintenance for numerous offspring as may be born of feebleminded parents, by pensioning all persons with transmissible disease who voluntarily consent tosterilization.
“f) to give certain dysgenic groups in our population their choice of segregation or sterilization.
“g) to apportion farm lands and homesteads for these segregated persons where they would be taught to work under competent instructors for the period of their entire lives.
“The first step would thus be to control the intake and output of morons, mental defectives, epileptics.”

I’m interested in your newsletter and would like to subscribe.
Just putting it out there. I’m sure it’s all in Peter Bagge’s comic, anyway.
I got the links from an anti-Sanger article, but the Web sites themselves are either Scribd (for the last one) or the NYU Web site (for the first two).
Enjoy!
Yes, Sanger had some views that libertarians consider pretty loathsome. History is perverse like that. Sometimes loathsome people end up advancing good causes. Jefferson owned slaves; that doesn’t invalidate the good ideas he advanced.
It sure sounds like most of her ideas were anti-libertarian, and that her concern for reproductive rights stemmed from a concern for societal engineering rather than any rights of the individual.
IOW, Jefferson at least talked the talk, you know?
Well, the idea of being able to freely market or distribute contraception is a very libertarian idea. And she was the one who took the risks and made this a thing. She deserves credit for that.
I don’t think she was as much for ‘freely marketing’ contraception as she was for forcibly administering contraception to those she deemed unfit.
Any motions towards anything to do with ‘freedom’ were simple window dressing designed to ensnare the feeble-minded.
And look how good it worked.
As awful as slavery was, I don’t think it comes close to the evil that was eugenics.
Sanger was a proponent of antepartum infanticide. There’s no reason that anyone should question her libertarian credentials; no reason at all.
I bet she was for “same-sex marriage”, as well. Or, would have been, because it is just another way to control population growth.
I don’t think anyone is touting her as a libertarian of any sort. She did however advance one policy that libertarians agree with (availability of contraception). She didn’t do this for reasons (!) we agree with, but she did advance a good cause.
Do you not grasp that She didn’t do this for reasons (!) we agree with,
make it not a good cause?
Her aims were sinister. And it is her aims that are acted on today. And the huge load of things libertarians don’t support in those aims hurt us more than the one thing we ‘agree’ with.
She Hitler did however advance one policy that libertarians agree with (availability of contraception) opposition to American foreign policy and FDR. She He didn’t do this for reasons (!) we agree with, but she he did advance a good cause.
If Margaret Sanger had managed to push therough her whole program, our government would have collapsed. How would we have a Congress without “idiots, morons, and professional prostitutes”?
Which brings up another question. Are there amateur prostitutes, and how do they gain professional standing?
If they go before the bar…
Christ, the tape over the mouth thing has become so fucking clich?d.
Can Reason either confirm or deny the rumor that Bagge is following up his fawning biography on Sanger with a hagiography of George Lincoln Rockwell?
How about Ernst Roehm? Gay and opposed to reparations, militarism, aristocracy and corporatism.
So many Sanger scholars gathered here! Let’s ALL write books about her!
