Oh, Deer
When her boyfriend startled a pair of deer while cutting hay, accidentally slicing off the leg of a young fawn back in 2011, Carol Deyo nursed the deer back to health. The deer now shares Deyo's farm along with livestock and several other wild animals Deyo rescued after they were brought to her by neighbors who found them sick or hurt. But the Ohio Department of Natural Resources has cited her with two counts of illegal possession of wild animals. She faces up to 30 days in jail and a $250 fine. The deer and other wild animals face death. Because they would be unable to survive in the wild, DNR would likely have to put them down if it takes them from her.
