Wisconsin Animal Shelter Raided Over Baby Deer
Deer killed off site

Wisconsin's Department of Natural Resources got to use their guns when they raided an animal shelter over a baby deer last month.
"It was like a SWAT team," shelter employee Ray Schulze said.
Two weeks ago, Schulze was working in the barn at the Society of St. Francis on the Kenosha-Illinois border when a swarm of squad cars arrived and officers unloaded with a search warrant.
"(There were) nine DNR agents and four deputy sheriffs, and they were all armed to the teeth," Schulze said.
The focus of their search was a baby fawn brought there by an Illinois family worried she had been abandoned by her mother.
The department claimed they got anonymous calls about the deer; owning wildlife is against the law in Wisconsin. The agents managed not to kill the deer on sight, but it was taken off site and euthanized. Asked by WISN whether the agents could've called the shelter in advance to resolve the situation peacefully, a department supervisor compared that to a sheriff's department calling in advance of a drug raid. So it's not just local police departments looking to play soldier.

"... a department supervisor compared that to a sheriff's department calling in advance of a drug raid."
This is the mentality we're up against.
Kill it (not the baby deer) with fire!
I'm down with killing the baby deer with fire. Just keep it medium rare.
The agents managed not to kill the deer on sight, but it was taken off site and euthanized.
The practice range is off site.
I'm picturing the SWAT team breaking in and finding itself surrounded by barking dogs. They must've had a collective orgasm and been unable to shoot.
The deer had to be euthenized for it's own good, despite being perfectly healthy and safe where it was.
What a bunch of mentally retarded, malicious fucking baboons.
How dare you insult mentally retarded, malicious fucking baboons! I demand an apology on their behalf, and if it is not provided immediately, I shall send a strongly worded letter to alert the ASPCA!
Yes, they had to kill it to save it.
The greater good was obtained.
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!
Ooo! Ooo! It was Lieutenant Cheesehead, offsite, with the M-4! Open the envelope!
They ... they ... they ...
euthanized BAMBI?!?!?!
Tragedy of the Commons has levelled up, it appears.
Unlocked a new achievement
The deer is dead. The best of all possible outcomes.
Stew, sausage, or burger?
Extremely tender venison for the Sheriff.
knowing their incompetence, it was just thrown out for carrion eaters... oh wait...
IT'S COMIN' RIGHT FOR US!!
what was th shelter going to do? flush the deer down the toilet?
It's a shelter, not Planned Parenthood, they'd prolly just gas it, right?
They were going to send it to rehab in Illinois.
Just what parts of government would you have us cut?
What d'ya got?
And the post right above this one is about Scott Walker bragging about how cool he is, reining in spending. Hey guy, got some more spending for you to cut.
[Just what parts of government would you have us cut?]
All of it. Then replace only the parts that 75% of the voters miss.
What's the point of having a badge and a gun if you don't get to torment some serfs once in a while?
This is like the ending of Escape from the Planet of the Apes, were the parents super intelligent future deer?
Well, at least it wasn't a dog this time...
owning wildlife is against the law in Wisconsin
-----------------
What the fuck does that even mean?
No poaching the King's deer.
I had a pet deer at my grand dad's farm when I was small. I never thought I owned him, he just kind of hung around until one day he ran off to do deer stuff. That's pretty much how I view all wildlife "ownership", it's just a matter of time before you don't "own" it anymore. Or you get mauled.
My mother had a pet deer as a child. One day some hunters drive by, see the deer, and knowing full well that it was private property, shot it. According to my grandpa, my mother ran inside for her gun and was going to shoot back!
p.s. They were a practical mountain family though, they later ate the deer.
Hilarious.
I think he ended up in my freezer.
Also, The Yearling.
I'm pretty sure one of my older cousins killed him later on.
And how do the sheriff people know that they weren't just letting it crash there?
I hope the silly people who brought the fawn to the shelter heard about this and learned to leave wildlife the fuck alone. Fawns are often left by their mothers in sheltered places.
It's just stupid all the way down here.
We had one curl up in my back yard for the day a few months back. The wife-unit did call a wildlife rescue service who told her to leave it alone, as the mother will often leave them alone while she goes off and does doe things. She then spent the rest of the day not trying to leave it alone.
Come morning, it was gone.
It was probably some SWPL do-gooder from Chicago whose family has a vacation home in Wisconsin and doesn't realize that they actually survive in the wild on their own just fine.
True story:
My mom lives on a private lake in Pennsylvania where they have a number of resident black bears about an hour from New York and Philadelphia. Most of the other residents are 1%ers who have never ventured outside the confines of Manhattan or Philadelphia so the most they understand about wildlife is what they learn at their annual Sierra Club galas, well one day about two months ago when the summer visitors started arriving someone asked her "when do they let the bears out for the summer"? As though they shipped them in from some local zoo for the residences' entertainment.
Most of the other residents are 1%ers
Gather mom lives in the Poconos?
Correct, Lake Naomi Club
Sad. What was (and still is, really) a beautiful place lately resembles nothing more than a fetid, oozing infection ready to spread even further into the PA interior as waves of NY/NJ tax refugees gradually price each other out of the market.
And they will bring their politics with them, turn Pennsylvania into another New York, stand back scratching their heads at the economic destruction and high COL, and wonder what the fuck happened.
I say this as a Manhattan resident myself, although I certainly was not born or raised here and thus don't contain whatever gene it is that makes people born in NYC bat shit fucking crazy. As a libertarian and vocal Bloomberg critic I view my fellow residents as a bunch of bumbling fools and idiots politically speaking.
I'm a Bronxite contemplating relocating to NE PA.
* residents'.
A: "They're already around with their cubs. Why don't you get a picture of your darling daughter sharing an ice cream cone with a bear cub?"
Ran into a darling little old lady at one of my talks who thought hunters murdered all the male deer every winter because she never saw deer with antlers in the spring.
How many times would I have to hit myself in the head for this to make any sense?
When all you have is a hammer...
It sounds like Niedermeir has already been hit in the head a few times too many with that hammer.

Climate change may increase violence, study shows
I'm pretty sure that was covered in Predator 2.
considering that climate change is turning up the heat over the entire planet.
Goebbels would be proud.
The hypothesis seems to hold true in Chicago at least.
Up until July the weather was fairly cool, and Chicago was on pace for the fewest homicides in almost fifty years. As soon as temps regularly got into the 80s and the last couple weeks the 90s, the number of shootings increased dramatically.

Like we're going to trust anything asserted by an obvious jewish nazi, ha!
I'm sure it is true.
Unfortunately for the article, Global Warming doesn't exist.
Forget gun control. Just install air conditioning units in all the dwellings of the progressives' welfare pets.
This seems like the perfect time to re-boot Bambi, and re-tell the story in the modern era...when fawns get euthanized by our officials.
Maybe the next generation will grow up to be distrusting of authority like they should be...
That would certainly be better than the original, which created generations of people who thought that hunters were scary and evil and forest fires were always bad.
I can't believe I missed this the first time around:
"Two weeks ago, Schulze was working in the barn at the Society of St. Francis on the Kenosha-Illinois border..."
The Society of St. Francis is a Franciscan order of Anglican monks. The Kenosha branch runs the animal shelter the Wisconsin DNR raided.
So, the supervisor of the DNR agents compared a religious order running an animal shelter to a crackhouse. Let's just let that stew for a little while.
I had no idea Anglicans had monks. How exactly are they Protestant?
Anglicans are sort of semi-protestant.
There are RC, Orthodox, Anglican, and Lutheran monks. It's just a lifestyle choice for people that want to live the cloistered life without going into the priesthood.
Obvious: "Religion is the opiate of the people."
OK, now I got it. The cops were afraid that with warning, they'd've smuggled the deer over the border into Ill.
I think I speak for us all when I say: crisis averted. Phew.
They raided an animal shelter and you aren't going to tell us how many dogs they shot? Was it all of them? It was all of them, wasn't it.
...owning wildlife is against the law in Wisconsin.
And the penalty is death... for said wildlife. I hope this got broadcast on every 6 PM news cast, so everyone and their kids know that the government agents killed Bambi.
And once you own an animal, doesn't that make it a pet, and not wildlife anymore?
The agents managed not to kill the deer on sight, but it was taken off site and euthanized. Asked by WISN whether the agents could've called the shelter in advance to resolve the situation peacefully, a department supervisor compared that to a sheriff's department calling in advance of a drug raid.
How do they even find people this stupid? Do they lobotomize all their employees as soon as they finish their probationary period?
They are lobotomized in the Academy.
Naturally, as an attorney, I have to wonder what constitutes "owning" wildlife. If you "own" an animal by both feeding it and providing it with shelter, then most of the deer in Southern Wisconsin are owned by farmers, who graciously plant corn and alfalfa for the deer to eat, and have woodlots for them to sleep in.
When I was a Boy Scout 25 years ago I came strolling into camp with a cool feather sticking out of my cap, that I had found in the woods. I had no idea that it was from a hawk, or that possessing them was against the law. One of the scout masters was also the county game warden. He said "son, you probably shouldn't have that feather" and explained why. I wonder how big the SWAT team would be if that happened today, and if they would shoot my dog on general principle. Along with the militarization of police, the shift has been from serving and protecting to "let's bust criminals!" The DNR in this story didn't call ahead because to them it was more important to "fight crime" than solve a problem.
Update: a "problem" that wasn't really a problem in the first place. If we didn't have police, we wouldn't need police.
Some bullies with badges are going to be very unhappy when that Third Amendment case goes against them and they are told by a jury that they are in fact a standing army of occupation.
Babies got ta puff it up for the fed grants.
