Memphis Council Member Complains That Budget Restraint Pleas Go Ignored

MEMPHIS — One Memphis City Council member often begs city finance officials for a realistic, specific plan to address the city's financial problems, but no such plans are ever forthcoming, she said.
City Council member Wanda Halbert told Tennessee Watchdog earlier this week that Mayor AC Wharton does a better job explaining the city's finances to the media than he does with her and her colleagues.
She and her colleagues on the Council have an equal amount of difficulty getting crucial information from the city's finance director, Brian Collins, she added.
