Earlier this week, much of the world was thrilled by the birth of George Alexander Louis to the couple William Arthur Philip Louis Mountbatten-Windsor and Catherine Elizabeth, nee Middleton. Given his instant celebrity, he has not much hope of a private life. This was well-illustrated by a publicity stunt in which the London Times published in June a front-page story reporting the results of a genetic test that had revealed "the Indian ancestry" of his father. Reason Science Correspondent Ronald Bailey explains that genetic privacy is no big deal and why it shouldn't much bother you to learn your ancestry from a newspaper story.
