Paranoia Strikes Deep
Notes on Jesse Walker's upcoming book.
Some notes on my upcoming book The United States of Paranoia, which HarperCollins will be publishing at the end of August:
* Publishers Weekly, which reviewed the book last month, has interviewed me about it as well. Come for the question about The Matrix, stay for the conversation about COINTELPRO.
* I was also interviewed recently by Andrew Langer, co-host of a podcast called The Broadside. To hear our discussion, including the part where he blindsides me with a weird conspiracy theory about Andrew Breitbart before confessing that he doesn't actually believe it, go here.
* Kirkus has reviewed the book too, kindly describing it as "an insightful and entertaining look at the demons and devils that haunt the American imagination." Their piece is behind a paywall, but the whole thing has been reprinted on Barnes & Noble's site, so that's nice.
* Finally, for those of you who have been asking me what topics the book discusses, I give you the index. And also, while I'm at it, the table of contents. Enjoy.

There were no comments after I read the article here.....I find that troubling.
That book is about me, isn't it?
You're so vain....
You probably think this warrentless wiretap, e-mail seraching, and GPS transponder is about you!
Don't you?
Seraching?
How did "conspiracy theory" come to mean "crazy conspiracy theory"?
It's a catch all phrase the Establishment/Illuminati/Bilderbergers use to discredit anyone who gets close to the truth.
Because 99.97% of all conspiracy theories are crazy conspiracy theories. Of the 0.03% that aren't crazy, they're object lessons on why the other 99.97% really are crazy.
What's your angle, Jesse? Something seems fishy here.
That's what he WANTS you to think...
The NSA has all his metadata, remember?
"Something seems fishy here."
If you've clicked on the links it's already too late.
"Walker, your resiliant BASTARD!"
Good luck with the book!

Do you talk about anti-Communist paranoia (which happened to be totally, 100% justified)? Or other sorts of paranoia?
Click on the index and find out!
Is "The Monster At the End of This Book" a Grover reference?
Of course.
Well there's something I haven't thought about in 20-someodd years.
Grover remains my favorite Muppet. I had a furry little Grover monster UNTIL SOMEONE STOLE IT.
I got over it.
thanks for the Grover reset
anti-Communist paranoia (which happened to be totally, 100% justified)?
To be clear...
Are you saying that "because there actually were a few communist infiltrators in government at the time"... that things like the Hollywood Blacklist, or HUAC investigations, were a *good thing*?
Blacklisting started when Stalinist emboldened by our alliance with Russia purged Trotskyites. And what is generally recognize as blacklisting occurred when Trotskyites returned the favor by getting some simpleton chumps to do their bidding when that alliance evaporated.

Thems a whole lotta scares.
Into your lives it will seep.
You are the expert in seeping.
I was replying to Jesse's reference, you malcultured, maladjusted and malodorous creep.
There's something happening here, SF.
Yes, I'm getting sexually aroused. Please continue, NutraSweet.
I think he called you Nixon.
It's only paranoia if they are not collecting massive information on you, and we all know they are doing just that....
I pre-ordered the book because the voices told me to.
because B&N would have nothing to lose by copyright violations.
I saw nothing about the NEA/NAMBLA alliance.
Fitting post. I just came from a Facebook post calling anti-GMO advocates paranoid and insane.
This was paired with a picture of the Wikipedia page for Delusional disorder.
Naturally the nuts came out of the woodwork to denounce it and ragequit. It's always depressing and infuriating to see this sort of ignorance.
Reason never prospers.
That's why they write books.
