Obama Mistaken for Waiter at 2003 Tina Brown Party

Obama's frank remarks on race and how he also has been seen as someone less than who he is led journalist Katie Rosman of the Wall Street Journal to resurface a 2008 piece about a 2003 garden party at the Manhattan home of media luminaries Tina Brown, now editor of the Daily Beast, and Harold Evans. The gathering just a little more than 10 years ago was to celebrate Sidney Blumenthal's book The Clinton Wars.

  1. So because the Lucille Bluths of New York felt bad enough to apology-vote him in, we all have to suffer.

  2. I love how it was at a lib/prog event. I also noticed one of the commenters claim Obama is a ‘moderate.’ Ha, ha.

Anyway, I’m not buying this one bit. If Obama feels he was hard done by it has less to do with his race and more his ego.

This sort of stuff cuts across race. It happens, I’m sure, to a lot of people. I know it’s happened to me on a number of occasions where people think I’m a waiter or worker in a store.

The best way to deal with it is with humor – or to kindly point the person in the proper direction and move on with your God dang life.

Why Obama feels the need to bring this up is plain bizarre.

    1. I have more than once in the past six months been asked where things were or to help someone carry something heavy to their car in my local Home Depot. Not infrequently by black people. Mostly, I just help as best I can, although I have drawn the line at using the scissor lift. My self-esteem remains intact, and I don’t feel the need to have a National Conversation about it.

  3. So, my take-away from this is that Obama looks down on people who work in service. Snobbery from the Great Uniter? Unpossible!

  4. The danger of appearing in a white suit coat and bow tie.
“Another glass of white wine, boy.”

    Hahahahahahahaha!
