Over 30 New Charter Schools Set To Open in Michigan
Parents want options
Kelly Main used to be a regular shopper at the Target store across from Summit Place mall in Waterford Township, never dreaming all those years that she would be taking her two children to school at that same department store building.
Main, a Waterford native, enrolled her children, Jaden in third grade and Rylee in first grade, this week at Oakside Scholars charter school now under construction in a portion of the former store vacated by Target a few years ago after a new one opened in Bloomfield Township.
Oakside, which is enrolling "young kindergarten" through fifth grade, is one of two charter schools that recently announced they will open in Oakland County in September.
The other one is Sarah Webber Media Arts Academy near downtown Pontiac.
The schools are among at least five new charters in Oakland County and 32 in Michigan planning to open this fall.
