A huge explosion rocked southern Beirut early Tuesday in the latest apparent instance of violence from the war in neighboring Syria spilling over into Lebanon.

Some media outlets reported at least one dead and more than a dozen people injured, but there was no immediate independent confirmation of the casualty toll.
