Record State Property Taxes Dog Chris Christie

Yet one more reason to not live there

He's enacted a cap on local property tax hikes. Placed a ceiling on raises for public employees who seek arbitration. And he's pushing a new income tax credit tied to property taxes.

But Governor Christie, according to recent polls, remains vulnerable when it comes to the state's high property tax bills, which rose again to a record high in 2012.

His response this week to a special task force report that calls for cutting property taxes by restructuring the state's income tax — pushing more of the burden to higher earners — was classic Christie.

"As long as I'm governor we're not going to do that kind of garbage, it's just ridiculous," he said when asked about the report during an event in Monmouth Beach on Wednesday.
