Boy Scouts Accept Gay Members, But Not Gay Leaders

It's a step forward

In one of their most dramatic choices in a century, local leaders of the Boy Scouts of America voted Thursday to ease a divisive ban and allow openly gay boys to be accepted into the nation's leading youth organization.

Gay adults will remain barred from serving as Scout leaders.

Of the local Scout leaders voting at their annual meeting in Texas, more than 60 percent supported the proposal.

By your logic, women shouldn't be scout leaders either, right? But the BSA does allow women to be boy scout leaders, which is a double-standard. That means they imagine that gay people (gay men, at least) are more likely than straight men to take advantage of children. What the hell kind of sense does that make?

For the record though, I think organizations shouldn't be prevented from making their own rules, even if they do discriminate. I was talking to a friend who thought that we should write a law that forced the BSA to allow gay scout leaders, but that would be a very immoral thing to do, as all laws are immoral.

Call me crazy, but yes, I do think gay men are probably more prone to be pederasts than straight men.

Pederasts obviously, as by definition "Pederasty" is sexual intercourse between a man and a boy. That seems like it would always be done by gay men.

We weren't questioning the trustworthiness of pederasts, though, but of gay men in general.

And I didn't mention gay men vs straight men, by the way, but gay men vs women.

It makes no sense, who will show the young men how to pick up the soap? Straight scout leader can't do it, anymore than white parents can show an adopted black child how to be black.
