Approach to Syria Dividing G8 Foreign Ministers

Conflicting interests even as most are interventionists at heart

Syria and North Korea top the agenda as foreign ministers from the Group of Eight industrialized nationsmeet today in London. While the G8 countries are united in their determination to dial down tensions on the Korean peninsula, how to respond to the Syrian conflict has proved much more divisive.

"There is no disagreement with the United States over North Korea," Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrovsaid yesterday at a meeting with US Secretary of State John Kerry.
