Former Congressional Historian Dies

Robert Remini was 91

Robert Remini, a professor emeritus at the University of Illinois at Chicago and a former official historian for the U.S. House of Representatives has died. He was 91.

In a news release, the university announced Robert Remini died March 28 at Evanston Hospital after suffering a stroke.

Remini was an award-winning biographer, who won the National Book Award for nonfiction in 1984 for "Andrew Jackson and the Course of American Democracy, 1835-1845." He also wrote biographies about Henry Clay, John Quincy Adams, Daniel Webster, and several more books on Jacksonian America.
