FBI Details Suspects from Massive 1990 Art Heist

$500 million worth of artwork stolen in Boston

The FBI said Monday that it believes it knows who stole paintings and sketches valued at up to $500 million from Boston's Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in 1990 and is seeking public help to track down the stolen artwork.

The FBI said the heist, which involved 13 works, including masterpieces by Rembrandt, Vermeer, Degas and Manet, is the largest property crime in U.S. history.

"The FBI believes with a high degree of confidence that in the years after the theft, the art was transported to Connecticut and the Philadelphia region, and some of the art was taken to Philadelphia, where it was offered for sale by those responsible for the theft." said Richard DesLauriers, special agent in charge in Boston.
