Obama on Cheney on Drones, Assault Weapons Ban Passes Committee, Sen. Warren Loves Regulations: P.M. Links
-
Confronted by Democratic senators unhappy about his administration's lack of transparency in drone-use policies, President Barack Obama's reported response is that he's not as bad as ex-Vice President Dick Cheney.
- Speaking of transparency, after saying the Associated Press had overstated the number of detained illegal immigrants the Obama Administration has released from jail due to budget constraints, ICE told Congress today the news agency was correct.
- The Senate Judiciary Committee has approved Sen. Dianne Feinstein's assault weapons ban, though it is likely to be defeated in a full Senate vote.
- Aaron Swartz's legal team is arguing that the Department of Justice engaged in misconduct like illegal searches and withholding evidence in their efforts to get the open-access activist behind bars.
- In England, an elderly activist has won his fight to force the government to purge surveillance files recording his political activities. The 88-year-old man had no criminal record, yet police had kept note of dozens of demonstrations he attended.
- Sen. Elizabeth Warren says that without government regulations, we would all be victims of something or other.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren says that without government regulations, we would all be victims of something or other.
So enjoy being solely victims of government regulations.
In fairness, the red man has often been a victim of the white man's avarice.
Shhh the Trail of Tears never would've happened if only there'd been a government to protect them.
On the bright side, we've only got to put up with her for another forty years or so.
Have no reservations about sending her some firewater.
There is a reason why gun control and alcohol control are two of her top issues. Fire water and rifles have created so much tragedy for her people.
How is it that she lets Western Sky Financial engage in such rank usury? They're endangering their mortal Great Spirits.
They need to make a commercial showing her paddling a canoe around the water front of Boston and the standing in the financial district crying.
YES! THIS!
Not if boomers figure out how to live forever. I know they're working on it because it's the most spiteful thing they could do to the younger generations that hasn't already been done.
No! No! No! We'll be LOST without their wisdom, their guidance, their hard fought experience.
No! No! No! We'll be LOST without their wisdom, their guidance, their hard fought LSD induced experience.

No one in the history of the United States has ever been unjustly harmed by the law. Indians, Blacks, women, Chinese, Jews, Italians, Japanese, they all had it coming.
Confronted by Democratic senators unhappy about his administration's lack of transparency in drone-use policies, President Barack Obama's reported response is that he's not as bad as ex-Vice President Dick Cheney.
He's not: Cheney would at least attempt to do his killing personally.
Tu quoque for me, tu quoque for you, I'll have some tu quoque, you'll have some too.
The ultimate in petulant Leftism is invoking Dick Cheney. Jesus Christ, guy, you've been President for going on five years now.
"Jesus Christ, guy, you've been President for going on five years now."
Hey! Give him time! It took 3+ terms for FDR to really screw things up.
I'm pretty sure FDR was able to do it in 1. Two, three and four were just extra layers and icing on the cake.
FDR's administration was a parfait.
And the spoon had a little fasces for a handle, just like on the back of the dime.
So Obama, the president, uses Cheney as an excuse? Cheney was the VP, you know, the most useless position in all of the government, but the most powerful man in the world is just helpless to live up to his own empty promises.
Duck the buck, wtf, don't pin that shit on me, nothing is my fault BOOOOSH. I hope his pet wookie turns on him one night and rips his fucking arms off.
I chuckled aloud at your last sentence.
If only Chip Bok could make a comic of what I saw inside of my head when I read it.
OPEN THE THIRD ENVELOPE.
President Barack Obama's reported response is that he's not as bad as ex-Vice President Dick Cheney
------
actually, he's worse. Not even Darth was ordering strikes on American citizens, though Cheney wouldn't have minded that power and is among the GOPers in favor of what Obama is trying to seize.
They didn't drone Jose Padilla, after all.
...in drone-use policies, President Barack Obama's reported response is that he's not as bad as ex-Vice President Dick Cheney.
Cheney wouldn't have droned same-sex wedding ceremonies long before Obama wouldn't.
Warty now interested in watching Lena Dunham.
The only thing that would improve Girls is "A Very Special Episode" featuring STEVE SMITH.
Hey!! The Onion had jolly well better retract that!
Everybody knows it, but no one will say it, Jaden Smith is kind of a pussy, right?
Alright, I think all this Lena Dunham loving and hating has now officially jumped the shark: Lena Dunham doesn't want a Playboy body. Hers is more powerful!
I will pay no more heed to any of this nonsense.
This feels awkward. It's not a repeat, but...
It's like you both showed up to the party wearing a similar, but not identical dress.
Whatever you want to tell yourself honey.
To be fair, her body is much more capable of inducing vomit than a Playboy model's.
The only way Lena Dunham will have Playboy body is if the magazine suddenly becomes dedicated to surrealist art/porn.
Playboy's 2014 ironic playmate of the year.
Playboy's Gyrls of Feminism Calendar
It doubles as a rat repellent.
" As a producer, director, and writer of her own show, Dunham has a lot more ownership over the way her body is viewed than models in the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show do. It's a rare power that Dunham wields, and she's not eager to surrender it in exchange for a big rac"
Actually she, nor anyone else, has any power over how their body is viewed. That is up to the viewer. Maybe that's what she cannot stand.
And it's Victoria Secret model, not Playboy model. The interview was with Playboy. Not a huge difference though, just being picky.
We like to believe that attractive women exert sexual and economic "power" in our culture, but the systems set up to capitalize on their bodies?pageants, Playboy, porn, pop music?are rarely controlled by the women in front of the camera. Often, they are dominated by men.
Being fat and ugly just means men won't exploit me. What a horrible life some swimsuit model getting paid $500 an hour or some hot chick who snagged herself a millionaire husband must have. The male gaze, the patriarchy.
The real article if funnier than The Onion one.
That porn thing is a load of bullshit. Almost all porn is entirely female-oriented and centered. A female star calls the shots (npi).
Before the porn industry went belly up, female porn stars commanded five figures for an afternoon's work and males were lucky to get a hundred.
I think that's still the case for the big names.
And that was why the attractive men fled to gay4pay. Yay capitalism!
I read that. Apparently a lot of male porn actors play for the other team because the money in gay porn is so much better.
Yup, you guys keep the guys who you feel able to out compete, and we get the guys who are aspirational lays. Everybody wins.
Before the porn industry went belly up, female porn stars commanded five figures for an afternoon's work and males were lucky to get a hundred.
I'm pretty sure they still have that kind of payscale, although I have no idea how they sustain it. After video/DVD came out, the studios could make a mint churning out various spank-bank volumes and still afford to pay the "names" top dollar, and even the lesser-knowns could still make enough to live well if they didn't snort their earnings up their nose. With the internet, those names can now set up their own stuff, and there's obviously no shortage of free porn sites on the internet that pirate the paid sites' content.
No kidding. If that's exploitation, where the fuck do I sign up?
I think we just established that -- gay4pay
I may have to retract my statement...
Eh I wouldn't worry too much; they ease you into it. You start out doing the things that you can close your eyes and pretend it's a woman involved and then you follow a pretty standard arc until you're acclimated to guy on guy action and on the receiving end of things. Then you retire and marry a decent looking ex-female pornstar and occasionally have an MMF threesome because you sort of enjoy the transgressiveness of jumping outside of your stated sexual orientation.
Seriously, the whole process is that clich
That was...surprisingly specific.
If you like that you should pick up my latest monograph on the topic: Gay4Pay Star with a Thousand Faces
By: Joseph Campbell jesse.in.mb
Sorry, couldn't resist.
No, no, it's cool *changes title of monograph, doesn't credit itsnotmeitsyou*
Jesse, I'd like to hear more about the cliched nature of gay pornography. Do you have some sort of website I could go to?
If only I could have a second revenue stream from being a snarky pop-sociologist of gay porn. The old gawker media property fleshbot.com kind of does that, I'm not sure if they're that self-aware or just phoning it in in a way that makes the clich? obvious
I just looked at fleshbot.com. What am I seeing? What...what am I seeing?
Aww, someone didn't know about Fleshbot. jesse, you are truly making H&R a better place.
I've never actually read the comments on fleshbot, I wonder if they're as bad as the rest of the gawker-verse, but porn related.
There don't seem to be enough for proper study. Damn!
Perhaps a newsletter you could subscribe to?
He needs to get through the "interview" first with casting, there may be a couch involved.
Yeah, the Kardashians just don't know how exploited they are.
the systems set up to capitalize on their bodies?pageants, Playboy, porn, pop music?are rarely controlled by the women in front of the camera. Often, they are dominated by men.
Seeing as how most newcomers know little to nothing about the numerous steps required to produce commercial music or commercial pornography, and more importantly, lacks the finances to mass produce entertainment, this criticism is lacking in substance.
What I will say about her is this:
this is a woman who comes from a family that literally has produced nothing of value in their professional lives. And I mean absolutely nothing. Her parents were pseudo-intellectual pop artists and members of New York's elite social circle.
And yet these same feminist critics, who would castigate any of us for critiquing them as needing to 'check our white male privilege' embrace her with open arms just because she's ugly.
Fat and young and willing to get naked and voted fr Obama and went to Oberlin. See what feminists can't admit is that they like her because she checks the right boxes and the whole privilege thing is just a canard so they can gp after those who check the wrong boxes. I mean you never hear them telling Gosling to check his white male privilege do you?
the whole privilege thing is just a canard so they can gp after those who check the wrong boxes
Um, I thought "check your privilege" did just mean "check the right boxes."
In England, an elderly activist has won his fight to force the government to purge surveillance files recording his political activities.
And empty the Recycle Bin.
This was posted earlier on H&R, but deserves wider viewing. Everyone will get something out of it, if only reinforcement of what is already known.
Argh!
Cruz questions; Feinstein "answers".
Still hilariously maddening.
"I'm not a lawyer, but, after 20 years, I've been up close and personal to the Constitution," Feinstein continued. "It's fine you want to lecture me on the Constitution. I appreciate it. Just know I've been here a long time."
I'm glad DiFi is claiming her share of the blame for the fucked up state of the country.
I've seen the bullets that implode.
There is no such ammunition and I defy the Senator to support her nonsensical hyperbole.
Well, you kind of have to get up close and personal with your toilet paper.
"I've seen the bullets that implode"
We've seen the Constitution implode.
My "favorite": "Isn't that *enough* for the People?"
She is reprehensible.
I-N-F-R-I-N-G-E
What does it mean?
"My 'favorite': "Isn't that *enough* for the People?'"
You don't expect to be able to protect yourselves like our military do you? Well do you??!! I've seen dead children, damn you!
She didnt answer the question.
If that wont piss you off, nothing will. What an evil bitch.
As for respecting her views, in a word, NO.
Interesting: Salon writes pretty neutral article about how Rand Paul blew Rubio out of the water at CPAC.
The commentators aren't too pleased with that:
Rand is touching on topics that he hopes the "Rand Youth" want to address and resolve. "Drug policy" sounds good, "leave me alone" even better--w/out seeing the Trojan Horse they're letting into their homes.
This man is dangerous.
'Rand Youth' represent less than 2% of the electorate and is composed of under-educated, angry adolescent boys whose passion fades with diminishing testosterone and reading their second book.
His mealy, obsolete, two faced ideas will melt in the light of day, just like his smarter, more likable father's.
"leave me alone" even better--w/out seeing the Trojan Horse they're letting into their homes.
It is all fun and games until your realize the government is not going to pay for your birth control. I think they are actually a bit afraid of Paul.
of course, they are; hence the need to try and marginalize him. Rubio they ignore.
Me thinks the marginalization will start sooner than later. The crazy bitch is right about one thing. He IS dangerous.
To the establishment of both sides
Rubio is a gladhand who mouths the morning talking points sent over by the RNC. Since the other side also subscribes to the feed, they can always count on Rubio to be absolutely predictable and play his part in the bipartisan dance and step no further out of line than that.
"Rand Youth" = Godwin?
Jesse, you're new here, so I'll cut you some slack, but our Godwinning is always in the form of a question.
*Reviews example just below* Fine, fine. I'll do better next time.
Went to Bludsoe's on Sunday. Brisket melted like butter. Rib tips were cooked perfectly; nice balance of meat/fat. Chicken sausage was selfish (and I hate chicken sausage usually). The sides, BBQ beans, potato salad, cole slaw were pretty mundane. The smokers out back were impressive, but the ambiance was less than good. Overall, I'd give it a B. I will go back for a second opinion.
Selfish = delicious. Fucking autocorrect...
Ooh, excellent. I'll definitely check it out.
You know who else had eponymous Youth?
Sonic?
Eternal?
Isaac Asimov?
Articles about unknown ethnicities burning Parisian cars?
Those in asia?
Strapping?
The Boy Scouts?
Jimmy Savile?
EAP wins by out-Godwinning the Godwin.
Oh, sorry everyone, the answer was the YMCA. Thanks for playing!
You know who else didn't win?
Any member of the UN Security Council who has invaded Vietnam?
Jim Kelly?
And if they've only read one book isn't that the fault of the crappy government education system? Are you telling us they can't even propagandize properly?
I really really really wish I could laugh at this as someone making fun. Unfortunately, I know someone who said almost that exact same thing about ALL gun owners. If technology would allow me to reach through the tubez and bitchslap him, I would have.
I was accused of the same thing by a proggy years ago. I laughed in his face and told him he should be more careful about whom he let know of his non arms keeping status. Not everybody is as benevolent as I am.
The owner of a restaurant has more rights than his customer? Not in America. One man, one vote.
What is this? I don't even...
Oops. Whole comment (Dipshit is repying to a calm, rational comment above):

"Freedom would be looking at the rights to life the unborn child has, and valuing that above the right of a woman to murder the unborn."
Placing more value on a potential life than a live woman is immoral. Will you be volunteering for the Forced Gestation Police?
"Freedom would involve the right to choose who you want to serve at your restaurant."
The owner of a restaurant has more rights than his customer? Not in America. One man, one vote.
Why do you hate the Constitution, women and America?
Say it with me: The constitution does not apply to how you are treated by other citizens. It does not violate the First Amendment when someone calls you an asshole for saying something dumb, and 'one man, one vote' does not apply to consumer-producer relations.
Today on Facebook I saw an idiot prog post on a friend's status that the existence of 2nd Amendment infringed on the idiot prog's right to peaceably assemble.
Well, Virg, most people only come here *after* they experience something like that, so you're ahead of the game.
"Aaron Swartz's legal team is arguing that the Department of Justice engaged in misconduct like illegal searches and withholding evidence in their efforts to get the open-access activist behind bars."
His family and legal team are a bunch of propagandists. Nothing they can say or do will change the fact that he was nothing more than a little bitch pussy.
Carmen Ortiz is a nasty evil bitch. And Swartz' suicide ended her political career.
Wait, so either the government can behave badly or he's a little bitch, but not both? I find your lack of misanthropic imagination disturbing.
I was wondering that myself, Jesse.
The gov did act like a dick and go way overboard, but Swartz's suicide was still the bitch way out.
What the hell?
Aaron Swartz's "family and closest friends have tried to hone his story into a message, in order to direct the public sadness and anger aroused by his suicide to political purposes."
"They have done this because it is what he would have wanted, and because it is a way to extract some good from the event. They tell people that the experience of being prosecuted is annihilatingly brutal, and that prosecutors can pursue with terrible weapons defendants who have caused little harm. One of the corollaries of this message is that Swartz did not kill himself; he was murdered by the government. But this claim is for public consumption, and the people closest to him do not really believe it. They believe that he would not have killed himself without the prosecutors, but they feel that there is something missing from this account?some further fact, a key, that will make sense of what he did."
Pimps don't commit suicide.
NHL realignment now official

Thank God. The Caps are out of that awful SE division and will actually play some teams that anyone cares to watch.
they re-did the playoff format too. should be fun.
Finally the Wings are back in the East and may recommence ROFLstomping the Leafs.
There's no more Norris Division -- they got split up
Maybe the Blue Jackets will have more than a whisper of a prayer next year.
UNACCEPTABLE.
Yes. Everyone knows that despite geography, Winnipeg is culturally a Southeastern team.
Hey!
They did not need to trash the current alignment and playoff system to fix a minor geographical problem that could be solved by trading Columbus or Nashville for Winnipeg.

Babies are evil.
http://bc.ctvnews.ca/babies-ha.....-1.1192909
They might look all cute and bubbly on the outside, but a new study suggests babies have a hidden mean streak ? and even wish harm on people who they identify as different from them.
A University of B.C.-led psychology study found that infants as young as nine-months-old embrace those who pick on individuals who don't share their preferences.
Study lead author Kiley Hamlin said the findings reveal that babies are constantly busy assessing their surroundings, trying to determine who their friends and enemies are.
Hamlin said almost all of the 112 test babies acted the same during testing.
Stewie FTW!
Yo, fuck babies. In a purely platonic way, of course.
And racist...
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/.....77937.html
Hilarious that these supposed scientists are shocked that babies, who function on the most basic survival levels, aren't ultra-tolerant progressives.
This might make it harder for progs to pull that "The wholesome innocent children agree with us" garbage they are so disgustingly fond of.
Do ya think someone might want to prioritize which studies get funded? Not sure what the ROI is for this.
It was in CANADA so probably very little of our good United Statesian dollars went to fund it.
The shitty thing is that just because it was done in another country doesn't mean you can absolutely rule out the possibility that we paid for it.
Impossible! Babies are uncorruptible precious gifts from heaven who deserve perpetual candy and attention!!!! - every grandmother everywhere
Duh - every non-attachment parent everywhere
Grandmothers have always been in the pay of Big Baby.
From what I read in the article, it looks like the babies preferred it when one puppet hit another one. From what I've seen of little kids they LOVE to see cartoons with someone getting hit, exploding cars, falling off a cliff, etc.
Did they show the puppet with their own food preference getting hit by the non preference one? Because it seems to me the babies kinda indentified with the winner of the match, rather than one who liked their same food.
Just saw this on 24/7. It should have been in the PM links.
http://reason.com/24-7/2013/03.....of-pulling
If Senator Graham has the ability to "pull the plug on Afghanistan" and doesn't, he is responsible for everything that happens afterward.
Science this guy is a douche. Here I was thinking I couldn't hate a politician more than McCain and this stinking turd is proving me wrong.
"If Senator Graham has the ability to 'pull the plug on Afghanistan'"
Don't worry baby, I'll pull it out soon enough! But, seriously, he's one dude in the Seanate, what "ability" does he really have?
Baby survives 8 story fall after mom attempts murder/suicide.
See my post above. Jumped, or was pushed?
The baby wasn't named Damien though.

The dreaded cultural appropriation.
The money quote:
Only Elizabeth Warren is allowed to play Cowboys and Indians.
If Elizabeth Warren can use "redface" to get elected Senator, why can't whatever dumb magazine use it for Michelle Williams?
I'm not sure that was the money quote. The entire thing was pretty awful.
Well, this part was my favorite:
Without cultural appropriation, indigenous American culture would be dead and forgotten.
Without cultural appropriation, an awful lot of things would not exist.
Those people absolutely hate enchiladas.
The softer side of my point. You complete me.
Well, the whole story is situated in the American Midwest, so...
Reminds me of the State Farm commercial:
Woman: "What are you wearing, 'Jake' from 'State Farm'?"
Jake, from State Farm: "Uh, kaki?"
Woman: "She sounds hideous!"
Her Husband: "Well, she's a guy, so..."
ALL culture is appropriated. That's how it arises and develops. Fuck, the feathers a Native American might wear is a style appropriated from our poor, microaggressed avian brothers and sisters.
Huh?
Jesus, they are really having to try hard to find things to be outraged about....
Happy-go-lucky drone, minding its own business, shadowed by big and mean Persian manned-airplane with unknown (but clearly mean and ugly) intentions.
And NO, the drone was not called Little Nellie. You only live once.
"The drone was flying in international airspace off Oman when Iran detected it and launched its own manned aircraft, according to the officials who have direct knowledge of the incident. The Iranian planes then shadowed the drone, which eventually left the area. No shots were fired. However, the officials said the U.S. is concerned about Iranian intentions [ha!] in incidents like this and whether it could unintentionally trigger hostility."

Everyone should have the civil right to leave the workforce for years at a time, then return to the same salary as those who have worked in the interim. O boy: Nico Lang at Thought Catalog penned a thoughtful piece about what it's like to write about so-called "women's issues"?from dating to sexual violence?while not actually being a woman. Lang has a gender-neutral name. He's discovered that the taboo against men writing about these topics runs so deep that readers, particularly detractors, just assume he is a woman. (Refreshingly, he doesn't want a cookie for having to endure the same abuse that women get online because of this mix-up.)
Maybe because he doesn't see any difference in the abuse he takes in real life? I get the feeling that the women who bitch about their emails and article comments are treated with kid gloves IRL.
He's not as bad as a guy whose only real job/power was breaking tie votes in the Senate. That's comforting.
So, how goes it over there dude. Wow.

Carter was a worthless president, but at least he wasn't as bad as Obama.
Also, I would just like to point out to anyone who just emerged from a cave that Dianne Feinstein is a bipedal stack of putrid filth and active enemy of anyone who has even the most passing fondness for freedom.
