FL Anticipates Venezuelan Asylum Seekers
The new boss is a bit too much like the old boss
MIAMI – Miami is preparing for another influx of Venezuelans looking to escape the country after the 14-year reign of Hugo Chavez, who died this week.
"In the last few weeks we have received one or two dozen calls a day asking for information about how to apply for political asylum," said Patricia Andrade, president of Venezuela Awareness Foundation, a human rights group. "We used to only get one or two a week.
"Once the funeral passes and the political situation normalizes in Venezuela, we will start to see the exodus increase," Andrade said.
