A.M. Links: Americans Unpanicked by Sequester, DOJ Compliments Its Own Transparency, Ticked-Off Entrepreneur Introduces Encrypted Email

  • Americans may be getting harder to panic. Despite scare stories about firemen starving in the streets, 37 percent of our friends and neighbors are all for the sequestration cuts. Only 45 percent think Congress should try to avert the cuts. The rest snickered and opened the sports section.

  • Under Obamacare, employers are charged a fee for every "life" they cover on their health plans. Shockingly, companies are responding by dropping coverage for spouses. Did anybody ever intend this scheme to work?
  • The Department of Justice is patting itself on the back over the federal government's transparency. Really.
  • With Europe's economy dragging and its labor costs impressively ridiculous, Caterpillar is cutting 1,400 jobs at a plant in Belgium. No more hand-dipped tractor tires with a lambic ale.
  • We think we have rough cops! Police in South Africa handcuffed a taxi driver to the back of their van and dragged him through the streets. Until he died. Over a parking dispute.
  • Kim Dotcom, the former head of MegaUpload, who just launched a new encrypted cloud storage service, will introduce an encrypted email service. Why, yes, it does seem to be specifically intended as a screw-you to the U.S. government.
  • Among other cool things, 3D printing is apparently opening the door for small, specialty car makers to do their thing.

      1. RickC   12 years ago

Even after Iglasias' article on his own difficulties opening a small business? Of course, he didn't take the next logical step either. If local regs make opening a business so difficult (many of which were introduced in response to federal pressure) how much more so state and federal regs?

Student sues school for being punished after refusing to cite Mexican pledge

    1. WTF   12 years ago

Why would the teacher want a pledge to Mexico, anyway? It's a Spanish class, not a Mexican class.

Maybe like our pledge it has the rhythm of a prayer and that makes it an easy memorization exercise.

When I took French in high school they made us recite the Lord's prayer and the Hail Mary in French. Because they're like little songs, really, I can still remember them, even though I've forgotten all the rest of it. I bet a pledge of allegiance would be the same way.

Of course, I went to Catholic schools, so saying the prayers in French was a twofer. I'm not sure if they were going for that here.

End of the French alphabet was "eeks, eeegreck, zed." I liked French way better than German. German's so HARSH. Just speaking it makes you WANT to start world wars..

Whereas, of course, speaking French really mellows you out and makes you want to surrender. To nature. Or anything or anyone else.

                Assez, assez...

Oaths have meaning. This teacher just committed treason.

      1. WTF   12 years ago

You mean like when our law makers swear an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution?

        1. Drake   12 years ago

          That's just lying.

          1. Bobarian   12 years ago

When they break the oath, then it's treason...

      2. Heroic Mulatto   12 years ago

        Oh, for Fuck's sake...

Context matters. If the teacher forced the students to stand in front of a Mexican flag and put their hands over their hearts or whatever it is Mexicans do when they pledge, then yes.

If it was a mere recitiation designed to teach the students a famous passage written in Spanish or to teach them something about Mexican culture, then I believe the teacher did nothing wrong.

      3. Agammamon   12 years ago

When you *take* an oath, that is an affirmative action - simply repeating the words under duress is not.

And swearing allegiance to a foreign power is *not* treason.

Oran's Dictionary of the Law (1983) defines treason as "...[a]...citizen's actions to help a foreign government overthrow, make war against, or seriously injure the [parent nation]."

A free person is free to swear allegiance to any power he chooses to.

    3. Night Elf Mohawk   12 years ago

I also like the part of district policy that lets students opt out of saying the parts of the Declaration of Independence that make them sad. Batshit crazy.

      1. Eduard van Haalen   12 years ago

You mean, like the part about a Creator? I can see how *some* people might object to that part.

    4. Eduard van Haalen   12 years ago

Here's an interesting part of the article:

"The school district has a policy that prohibits a school from compelling students to recite the American Pledge of Allegiance or text from the Declaration of Independence if the student "as determined by the district, has a conscientious objection to the recitation," Fox News' Todd Starnes reports."

This policy reflects US Supreme Court decisions that students can't be compelled to say the USA pledge of allegiance if it violates their conscience.

Now it turns out that all the school had to do was make students recite the pledge as, say a civics or language arts assignment and it would all be cool.

      1. Agammamon   12 years ago

Well context is important. In the first one is taking a loyalty oath, in the second one is merely reciting the words of a loyalty oath with no expectation of having to fulfill its demands.

There's no magic in the world, simply reciting words does not summon demons or place geas' on people.

    For Warty, MYSSM.

The 6-foot, 361-pound Williams is a junior college football coach from Demopolis, Alabama. Over the weekend at the Alabama State Powerlifting Championship, he broke the U.S. record in the men's raw 275-pounds-plus division by squatting 860 pounds. That's right, 860 pounds.

And it gets better. Williams also put up 905 pounds, but that attempt was disallowed because he took a small jab step during the lift. Williams was pretty disappointed with himself because he wanted to see if he could squat 1,000 pounds.

to even be remotely legit in powerlifting you need to be able to squat 300% of your BW he's a solid 223 lbs off 300% not even at 2 1/2 x his BW if that was his bench press itd be a different story.

Under Obamacare, employers are charged a fee for every "life" they cover on their health plans.

So now I have to worry about physical scarring as well when the HR girl tells me to "get a life?"

    1. gaijin   12 years ago

a fee for every "life" they cover

      Do they cover pre-natal lives?

      1. Marshall Gill   12 years ago

        Pre-natal lives?

Until the magical passage through the birth canal, the science is settled that there is no life.

    2. Don Mynack   12 years ago

It's becoming clearer that the entire point of Obamacare was just a tax increase. From taxes on "Cadillac" plans (whatever that means), to the fines for refusing to buy it, to piddly little "fees" like this. It all really just comes down to revenue.

      1. sloopyinca   12 years ago

It all really just comes down to revenue.

And wrecking the entire medical insurance marketplace is an added bonus.

Sequester This! President Obama's Colossal Media Blunder

    1. Rich   12 years ago

      Beautiful.

The most imperial president in American history, a man who boasts that he will rule by Executive Action if Congress refuses to pass legislation he favors, can't figure out how to direct spending cuts in a way that does the least harm to the American people? I can't wait. And what's more, everyone can get in on the act. Got a favorite example of government waste and fraud? Sick of watching your hard-earned dollars get incinerated supporting one egregious boondoggle after another? Is there a particular program you'd prefer to see cut before they lay off all the meat inspectors? Just tweet it to hashtag #SequesterThis and share it with the world.

      1. Drax the Destroyer   12 years ago

Obama is Keyenesian whether he knows it or not, and turning high-priced albeit worthless and/or destructive employees into unemployed/low-paid slaves to "CORPORASHUNS!" would hurt his scorecard GDP. If they calculated that with the government waste rolled in, it might actually mean something, but in its current form the GDP implies spending on bullshit "helps" the economy.

        1. Drax the Destroyer   12 years ago

Ken Schultz, eat your heart out: Jezebel on why "cunt" shouldn't be a bad word.

Basically, empowered women are dangerous women, and, as Laurie Penny argues, "there are no other truly empowering words for the female genitalia" besides the c-word."Cunt" isn't scientific, it's erotic. "Cunt" doesn't refer to a baby cat or a treasure chest. It conveys purposeful sexual power, not submission. It's mature. Women get called cunts when they reject sexual advances and assert themselves in the workplace; in other words, when they don't play nice.

People who use ethnic or racial slurs propagate long-held systems of oppression. But "cunt" doesn't have the same type of larger, disturbing historical context.

    ...

Seriously? Why do we let "cunt" retain so much negative power when we could take advantage of its true awesomeness? (Not to mention how satisfingly it rolls off the tongue; it's way more fun to say than "dick." Try it!) The only possible explanation is because so many people still think the worst crime a woman can commit is to be unapologetically sexual.

See, by using 'cunt' so freely, we are really showing how much we love and empower women.

    1. wareagle   12 years ago

my bride is a woman and she thinks cunt is about the most vile term ever intended. There is absolutely nothing erotic about it nor was it intended to be. Then again, my wife would think teh jezebelians are the last group of women she would want to be around.

The only redeeming quality is that it's basic practice here in Jessamine County that they won't adjust property taxes above what you paid for the house. The person we bought our house from was paying the same property taxes in 2007 that he paid in 1980 when he bought the house. Ours haven't budged since we moved in 5 years ago.

                1. robc   12 years ago

No, 2.2% is the city payroll tax, I was replying to SF about only paying one city/county income tax.

                  1. robc   12 years ago

                    Property Tax breakdown:

                    City .1255%
                    School .7 mils
                    Fire .1 mil

                    So just over 1%

                    Plus, City of Middletown:
                    City .135%

                    1. SugarFree   12 years ago

Property is 1%, but they are aggressive about upping house value every chance they get.

I keep hoping the sequestration bullshit will kick the filing deadline down the road.

Hah! No, just your refund, if any.

    3. Brett L   12 years ago

I own my own small business. I'm disappointed that I only got down to 15% of gross income. However, I'm not giving Uncle Sam shit until April 15. I think of his 1 or 1.5% interest charge on my lack of quarterly payments as a satisfaction fee.

      1. mad libertarian guy   12 years ago

I see absolutely no reason to give the government an interest-free loan.

        1. JW   12 years ago

I agree with this 100%, but good luck figuring out how much in withholding gets you that break even point. Odds are, you'll just be sending a nice, fat check to the IRS.

      2. gaijin   12 years ago

don't you have to pay a penalty on top of the interest if you underpay thorughout the year?

        1. Brett L   12 years ago

I don't know. Turbotax says it comes out to about 1.5% of what I owed, total. If it's good enough for the Treasury Secretary, its good enough for me. It was less than $200 for penalty and interest.

        2. Cdr Lytton   12 years ago

Yes, depending on the amount owed, how much you paid in the previous year vs this year, etc.

My wife and I are facing this. Last year was a the first full year we were married and we have income from multiple sources so the withholding tables did not take enough. The previous year they did because most of the year was at the filing single withholding rate.

I'm so pissed at this shit. None of the waivers apply. We have to write a plead letter and hope the IRS goons take pity and waiver all or part of the penalty.

    4. kinnath   12 years ago

Weeks ago. Got the refund back already.

Dual income, empty nesters. Other than the mortgage deduction, our taxes are dead simple.

      1. SugarFree   12 years ago

What's this "refund" you speak of?

        1. kinnath   12 years ago

I have my withholding set so that I owe the feds a few hundred buck and get a little bit more than that back from the state. So I file electronically and get my refund from the state before I have to write a check to the feds.

          1. SugarFree   12 years ago

We pay quarterly and write a big April check. 🙁

            1. kinnath   12 years ago

              You have my sympathies.

              1. SugarFree   12 years ago

I mean, it's a nice problem to have and all, but when you see what you are paying for the FedGov in such stark numbers... I begin to think anyone who isn't a miniarchist must have something really wrong with them.

                1. kinnath   12 years ago

Our federal tax bill alone is almost as much as my salary the first year I was an engineer 28 years ago.

                  1. SugarFree   12 years ago

Ours was more than the first 5 cars I owned combined. Assholes.

                    1. kinnath   12 years ago

I owned a lot of shitty cars when I first got married. My tax bill might be 10 cars worth 😉

                  2. kinnath   12 years ago

My wife is an office professional with a good salary. And I am a 28-year engineer. So our combined fed, state, and FICA bill is about equal to my wife's salary. So she works to pay my taxes.

                    1. John   12 years ago

As it was with my parents Kinnath and pretty much every couple that bothers to try to get ahead.

Not looking forward to it - my wife kinda forgot to set up her withholding correctly so we'll owe.

Especially not looking forward to the jumble of local income taxes that comes with living in Pennsylvania.

With the Baby Reason deduction as well as me getting shared custody of my two kids (and my ex- agreeing to let me claim one of them starting in 2012), we came out way ahead this year...which actually pisses me off a little once I realize I gave those cunts an interest-free loan all that time.

I am sorry I missed the thread on the left media's freak out over Bob Woodward daring to criticize King Obama. When you think about it, what choice do people like Josh Marshal and Yglesias and Klein have? Media figures from the 70s and before like Woodward were actual reporters. And that is a skill. Woodward, whatever his faults, is a skilled reporter who has written numerous books that will no doubt serve as primary source material for historians for decades or even longer to come. People like that didn't worry if they attacked the wrong people because they had marketable skills. In contrast what does someone like Yglesias have? An undergrad degree in philosophy? Yglesias couldn't get a job as a GS 11 at a typical federal agency or a mid level manager at corporation. And he is not a reporter or writer of any note. All people like him and Klein can do is write hack pieces telling one side what they want to hear. That is it. Imagine if someone like Yglesias or Marshall stopped being a hack and tried to be honest. Why would anyone listen to them? They have to come out against Woodward because being a hack for their side is the only way they have to make a living.

    1. mad libertarian guy   12 years ago

Talking out against the party is the worst thing a man can do.

      1. John   12 years ago

And someone like Yglesias or Marshall could never leave the party. It is all they have. They have no marketable skills or any reason for people to listen to them beyond being a party hack.

        1. Palin's Buttplug   12 years ago

And what marketable skills do Beck and Limbaugh have outside redneck AM radio?

At least Yglesias and Marshall have college degrees.

          1. John   12 years ago

And what do your favorite radio hosts have anything to do with it? Who cares?

          2. VG Zaytsev   12 years ago

          3. Virginian   12 years ago

Rush Limbaugh's net worth is north of 300 million. Beck is probably up over 100 million by now.

So...yeah. I mean, Limbaugh invented a whole new genre of radio by himself.

            1. John   12 years ago

And Limbaugh made that money doing something that every single leftist who has tried it failed. They hate Limbaugh so much because they are not creative or smart enough to do what he does.

            2. Palin's Buttplug   12 years ago

Still, Limpy is not fit for any job outside radio barking.

              Maybe janitor.

              1. John   12 years ago

HE is fit for a job that made him $300 million dollar. Yglesias couldn't answer phones at call center.

          6. wareagle   12 years ago

given the empire Rush has built and Beck is building vs. the Yglesias/Marshall nexus, seems the value of a degree is vastly overrated.

I know that the wimmenz-haterz of reason were saddened by the news earlier today that using the word "cunt" no longer signifies a hatred of women.

Luckily, there are still many ways to get your woman hate on, like asserting that women give nicknames to the men they date

A recent column in The Atlantic contends that women assign nicknames to the multiple men they're dating because it helps keep things casual. The idea is, the second we start referring to the man we're dating by their real name to our friends ? as opposed to "Hot Hat-Wearing Balding Guy" and "Formerly Fat Chris" ? the relationship takes on a real quality that was previously absent.

    ...

Nicknames are more about function than flare ? a utilitarian memory aid, rather than a fun way to detach ourselves emotionally. If you become invested in the person you're seeing and they disappear ? it doesn't matter if they're "Hot Meatball Sub" or "Tony", it still fucking hurts. And perhaps the people who brush these things off with their friends aren't addressing and sharing their real feelings. The Atlantic's piece contends that women love to "over-share" (puke), but maybe the crushing weight of multiple rejections is a much more difficult thing to process than the fact that "Olive Garden Breadstick"'s penis looks like an Olive Garden breadstick.

    1. John   12 years ago

Keeping things casual is a euphemism for objectifying and dehumanizing someone. That is why racial slurs are considered a bad thing. Last I looked feminists were not to keen on men dehumanizing and objectifying women. Yet, someone it is okay when they do it?

      1. mad libertarian guy   12 years ago

Of course, John. Only white males can truly objectfy.

    2. Jordan   12 years ago

So, is giving someone a nickname considered a microaggression? Or does it rise to the level of a milliaggression? Or perhaps the dreaded centiaggression?

            1. Brett L   12 years ago

You know, in Tallahassee, they only get pissy if you say it while staring at their tits. Otherwise, no one says a word. Although, considering my gf has told me she never liked being called "darlin" before I did it to her, it may just be their Southern manners of ignoring the annoying guy.

            2. wareagle   12 years ago

in the South, darlin/honey/sugar are like mother's milk and women use them just frequently as men.

Keep in mind this was the same magazine that published an article last year by a feminist cum-dumpster wondering why she couldn't find a "decent man" and desperately trying to convince herself she was okay with being single.

    1. John   12 years ago

"You can't beat someone to a pulp or to when they have very bad bruises or permanent injuries," said district attorney Ron Moore. Prosecutors say that's what the evidence shows in this case, including pictures of the girl with severe bruises on her bottom. That's why Green and Jones pleaded guilty to one count of misdemeanor child abuse.

Kim Dotcom, the former head of MegaUpload, who just launched a new encrypted cloud storage service, will introduce an encrypted email service. Why, yes, it does seem to be specifically intended as a screw-you to the U.S. government.

One of the highlights of my weekend came when I downloaded Defense Distributed's massive collection of CAD files from Dotcom's new service, which I had not realized was operational yet. Suck on that, Barry.

But I do truly believe you should rethink your comment about saying saying that Potus asking for revenues is moving the goal post. I know you may not believe this, but as a friend, I think you will regret staking out that claim. The idea that the sequester was to force both sides to go back to try at a big or grand barain with a mix of entitlements and revenues (even if there were serious disagreements on composition) was part of the DNA of the thing from the start. It was an accepted part of the understanding ? from the start.

Maybe to some polite, old-school journo like Woodward that's construed as a threat. But Sperling points out in the next sentence specifically why he thinks Woodward is wrong and would regret his claim.

    3. Red Rocks Rockin   12 years ago

I wouldn't call that a threat, but it's notable that Sperling's first instinct was to chimp out to Woodward about the article rather than his later explanation.

If nothing else, it demonstrates Sperling's low impulse control.

Many of the commenters are reasonable and say that a police officer has no right to detain someone unless they suspect an actual crime is ocurring. The cop has the right to ask questions, but the citizen also has the right to refuse answering and walk away unless lawfully detained.

Then there are a few assclowns with the whole "RESPECT MY AUTHORITAH!" mentality.

  48. AuH2O   12 years ago

With the "C" word gone, yet another way to get your lady-hate on:

Be like Netflix and acknowledge that women like to watch different things at... certain... times of the month

Look, let's just put this out there right away ? Netflix does more good than it does bad. I am very grateful for the many hours that the site has kept me away from that whole "being productive" thing and for the amount of times it has given me the opportunity to ignore phone calls from my own dear family so that I can rewatch the first season of Skins (UK, obviously) for the eighth time. Really, I am grateful, as we all should be, which is why I say this with such heavy heart. Netflix, your Flixies awards, particularly the "Best PMS Movie" category, are a little bullshitty.

    ...

Because women, like all other people, like a variety of different things. ("Wha-wha-wha- whaaaat?!" say dumbfucks everywhere.) For example, when I am premenstrual I like to watch Deadwood, but I'll also settle for viral videos of handsome men eating medium-rare steaks. Other people I know like to watch goofy sitcoms and others still like to watch whatever it is that they want to watch in that moment and are unable to define their tastes with a single category.

    1. AuH2O   12 years ago

Also, I couldn't fit it in there, but the first paragraph is great. It is just a perfect example of how intentions are all that matter to these people.

"Look, I know that Netflix is well-intentioned, so I won't denounce them, I will just talk about being disappointed."

I watched the video and it is very clear individuals like this POS is making allot more difficult for Law Abiding Citizens to carry.
Yes this dumb ass is rattling off court cases; but it is clear he doesn't really understand any of them.
I have stopped some that act like this POS.
I have taken their weapon for my safety as theirs and I tell them this.
I put it to them as they whine and state _ am I free to go? I answer no. Have or do yo believe I have or have committed a crime? I answer Yes; until I know other wise you have and are possibly committing a crime. They they start a rant like this individual. I inform them you are now positively committing a crime; hindering an investigation. I need to see ID; yes they have to provide ID. I need to know you are not a prohibited person "Felon" to keep or posses a firearm.. POS like this "person" only tunnel visions their "rights" and ignore the rest. Individuals like this POS are the ones we see in the news.. Many citizens I have encountered comply since they already know what I have mentioned previously. They check out they get their weapon back - unloaded and we go on our way. The assholes like this one gets hooked up and taken in with valid charges regardless of any video; in fact the video is used as evidence in court of their hindrance to the "legal" investigation and failure to comply with a "lawful" order.

These are the words of real cops, anonymously posting their opinions free from revealing their identities.

      1. Virginian   12 years ago

They see the law as something to be circumvented if possible, and violated if they can get away with it.

It is legal to carry a firearm openly. There is no ambiguity, nothing is up for interpretation. It as as legal as jogging in the park.

        God they're vicious little fascists.

Looking at what's going on with Woodward, can you imagine the balls the first historian to write a book about this administration saying Obama sucked will have to have?

First off, you will have to be impeccably sourced, because even the kind of screw up that other academics do and get away with (*cough DorisGoodwinKearns cough*) you will not. Your social life on campus will die. And students will be told not to take your class, and some will take it just to yell at you about how great Obama was (students who probably weren't alive or were in grade school).

It will probably also be the ultimate test of a university's tenure system, because no way do they not look for every loophole to fire that guy.

And this is all a way of saying... THANK GOD I never had a desire to go into academia.

    1. Brett L   12 years ago

Eh. Once he's out, he won't be scary. The press will be less afraid of him than they were of the Clintons in the 00s.

      1. John   12 years ago

They are not afraid of him so much as they have all of their personal worth invested in his success. Even after he is out of office, they will never tolerate any criticism of Obama. To do that would mean facing their culpability in putting him in office.

        1. Ken Shultz   12 years ago

"Even after he is out of office, they will never tolerate any criticism of Obama. To do that would mean facing their culpability in putting him in office."

I keep wondering when Michelle finally makes it official and forms her exploratory committee.

I can see it now! She could morph the name of her "Let's Move" initiative into "Let's Move On".

Hey, if Hillary Clinton could come within a hair of being the Democrat nominee, Michelle Obama should be a shoe-in.

          1. John   12 years ago

I am sure she could and will. The only question is when does it end. All things end. While the media will always be willing to defend Obama, that won't extend to all things related to Obama forever.

            1. Ken Shultz   12 years ago

I think something really awful would have to happen.

Obama would have to leave Mary Jo to drown at Chappaquiddick kind of awful.

              1. John   12 years ago

Something awful is going to happen. Not sure what, but it will happen.

              2. R C Dean   12 years ago

A speed bump in Teddy Kennedy's career, bu no more. Even today, he's revered on the left and in academia (but I repeat myself).

Short of a crime of actual violence that he personally committed, I don't think there is anything that would make the DemOp media or academia turn on Obama.

    No and Yes.

No: nobody expected it to "work," if by "work" you mean to function in providing health insurance to everyone, blah blah blah, while preserving "our existing coverage."

Yes: It's working perfectly. The old system, whose imperfections were exaggerated by government interference, is going to be falling to pieces right on schedule, whereupon the government will institute the new single-payer system, whose imperfections will be many times worse, and where every remedy will be a political football.

      Talk about burying the lead

Affordability has been a matter of growing concern for the auto industry in recent years as prices have continued to move upward. Even the most basic of today's cars are generally loaded with features that were once found on high-line models a few decades back - if they were available at all - such as air conditioning, power windows, airbags and electronic stability control, as well as digital infotainment systems. They also have to meet ever tougher federal safety, emissions and mileage standards that have added thousands to the typical price tag.

Gee requiring every car to be built to the standard of a Mercedes E class has made cars too expensive for most people. Who could have seen that coming?

Eventually that idiot, no matter how much law he can recite, will get into a situation where the firearm will come into play and he will hurt someone or get hurt himself. It's just a matter of time. That cop no matter if this guy had not committed a crime should have been in cuffs during the entire stop. The pos had a loaded gun. How many of you guys still live in Mayberry where you can trust someone with a loaded firearm to act this squirrely? I want to go home at the end of the shift. We can settle the legality of the detention with the DA.

The Philadelphia police officer that punched a woman in the face at a Puerto Rican Day parade has been acquitted after judge essentially disregards video evidence.

    Also FTA:
Judge Dugan admitted he was "troubled" by the video that caught part of the incident and went viral shortly afterward, but says there was more going on than revealed in the video ? describing the scene as "chaos" and "volatile."
All things considered, Dugan said, he had to rule Josey not guilty.
There was immediate cheering in the courtroom, where the gallery was packed with police officers. The judge demanded order, and the celebration by Josey's supporters moved outside the courtroom.

Yeah, that's not intimidating or anything.

Also, the PD refused to release the red light camera footage of the incident and it was later "lost" when the judge formally requested it.

    1. Raston Bot   12 years ago

Ignoring evidence is the only option now that video is ubiquitous.

Hilariously bitchy Atlantic piece about how male advice columnists should be more like women is hilariously ripped apart in the comments

    Bitchy excerpt:

But the first was really just an etiquette question, of the proscriptive old-fashioned kind, and the second was perhaps (I hope) a joke and contained no evidence of emotion. The answers Patterson provides are fun, unique within the genre, and well considered, but they come in response to questions that only reinforce old ideas of masculinity as cold and stoic.

    Sample comment:

    JTHC75 ? 19 hours ago ?
What crap. Talk about unwittingly falling into satire.

"She'll try to change you, tell you to emote more, press you to talk about your feelings, and when she fails she'll blame you for it."

CLEARLY, the problem with men's columns is that they're not like women's columns. Sacre bleu! How silly that men think "advice" means "advice" and not "Here's two inches of column space to go off on your mousey cousin and how she's just not raising that child right" -- I know, crazy talk. Everyone knows that inside every stoic man is a womanly bundle of emotions just crying to be heard.
