Brickbat: Free Press

The principal of California's Bear Creek High School seized 1,700 copies of the school paper after it ran an article questioning school safety. The article quoted school officials decrying a lack of communication during recent reports of weapons on campus and cited an assistant principal's concerns that all the staff may not be familiar with the school safety plan. Principal Shirley McNichols said the story could provoke panic.

She was just giving an object lesson to the children on prior restraint. But they should all be more concerned about a school apparently being built next to a creek with bears in it.
Shows what you know. It's a fabulous creek.
I never expected someone named Fist to be such a homophobe.
Censor the local news and make it a national story... Good Plan!
Ugh.
Censors are all alike and use the same bullshit justifications. It is either about covering their ass or they know it when they see it.
Carthago delenda est!
Cause Cato the Elder was...oh never mind.
gotta teach them to not question the authoritah early on; how else will they become the next generation of bootlickers in the MSM corps? Or is it corpse?
the district has a policy that allows administrators to monitor content of the newspaper and to withhold the publication if an article causes a safety issue.
"A safety issue" ..... Yeah, that's the ticket!
It's for the childrens.
Principal Shirley McNichols is upset that Toto has revealed her to be an ordinary human to the students. Pay no attention to that woman behind the curtain.
Teacher says write about anything, then threatens zeros to students who wrote about guns
...When the students ? both seniors ? wrote about innocuous gun-related themes, the teacher, Dewey Christian, scolded them in front of the class. Classmates laughed, and the students were humiliated, reports KDFW, the local FOX affiliate.
Christian further informed them that their writing would yield big, fat zeros unless they wrote new paragraphs on other topics....
So as long as it's the majority trying to impose its moral beliefs, she's down. Even when she's right, she's wrong.
Free speech is subject to prior approval from the majority.
Dewy Christian?
Next Bond Girl? Or straight to video porn?
Dewey Christian oh the time has come
And you know that you're the only one....
Principal Shirley McNichols said the story could provoke people to question her job performance.
Ten shocking lessons a huge Texas conglomerate has foisted on public school students
Reason #4,598 to homeschool your kids.
Reason #6 not to.
I'm fine without them sexting or having sex with my daughters.
Well, aren't you a party pooper!
I'm still working on my "just cleaning my guns" presentation for when their dates show up... and this will be after I duck through the front door to talk to them when they arrive. So, yeah.
My uncle used to sit on the front porch and sharpen a Katana when my cousin's dates arrived. He didn't say anything, just kept sliding the stone across the blade and looking at them.
My cousin was a lonely girl.

Probably won't be much need for that if you're homeschooling. Also, I think it's great that you don't want your daughters being all normal and stuff.
Yeah, when I homeschool them, I shackle them in the barn with the cattle and they never interact with any outsiders, especially not male ones. You don't know what you're talking about.
"All normal and stuff" doesn't mean that their dates should have the mistaken impression that my daughters can be treated with disrespect.
Also, exaggeration for the purpose of humor, but that's apparently too complicated for you.

Uh, yup. Hurr durr.
"Well, aren't you a party pooper!"
Fathers of teenage daughters usually are.
I'm beginning to think that the government should stop all these gun violence stories that are suddenly being highlighted by the national press. People might panic.
If they don't want people to panic, they'd keep Michael Bloomberg and Chuck Schumer off the airwaves, for a start.
I would hope a few big papers would already be contacting these editors to offer them some internships on the count'a them actually performing journalism 'n such.
Why would they do that? Those big papers have no interest in anything other than cheerleading.
I'm surprised that these big papers haven't tried to contact them to let them know that if they want a future career in journalism, they're going to have to learn to toe the administrative lion.
true, that comment was part nostalgia
Do kids still read school newspapers?
Is there a version available online?
I get this image of a principal seizing 1,700 papers that no one would have read anyway.
That was my thought. No one has ever read a school newspaper.
Censorship in the name of 'security' . . . sound familiar?
