Senate Democrats Want To Delay Spending Cuts

Until forever, we assume

U.S. Senate Democrats today will unveil a $120 billion plan for a 10-month delay in automatic spending cuts for defense and domestic programs set to begin March 1, according to a Senate Democratic aide.

If the spending reductions occur, staff cuts at U.S. Customs and Border Protection would increase waiting times at airport security checkpoints, hamper aviation and maritime security and harm disaster response efforts, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano testified at a Senate Appropriations Committee hearing today.

"These across-the-board cuts are going to be very difficult," Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, a Nevada Democrat, said today on the chamber's floor.
