As Congress debated gun violence amid calls from President Barack Obama for stricter firearm controls, state lawmakers Wednesday gave initial approval to a bill that would block new federal gun laws from being enforced in Arizona. …

It would bar any local, state or federal official, as well as any firearms dealer, from enforcing federal gun laws.

It also would allow the state attorney general to defend any Arizona citizen who is prosecuted by the federal government for violating federal gun laws if the gun, or any gun accessory, were manufactured in Arizona and kept within state boundaries.
