White House 'Assault Weapon' Ban Faces Strong Opposition
The legislation's pointless stupidity is an important factor
President Barack Obama will introduce a package of proposals to cut gun violence tomorrow, including a ban on sales of assault weapons that already faces fierce opposition in Congress even as a majority of the public supports it.
The administration has invited lawmakers to the White House for an announcement on gun violence at 11:45 a.m. tomorrow, according to a Senate aide, who asked for anonymity because the schedule hasn't been released.
Obama will also ask for universal background checks for firearms buyers and a ban on high-capacity ammunition magazines, according to administration officials who asked for anonymity to discuss details before the event.

I propose we pass a law requiring a background check, annual re-checks and a watch list (registry) for anyone who wants to learn to read.
After all, more people have been killed throughout history by the misapplication of knowledge than by the misapplication of bullets, and the rights protected by the 1st and 2nd amendments have equal levels of protection constitutionally speaking. If you can ban one set of rights, you can ban both.
Common sense and common decency should dictate that a magazine should be capable of holding at least as many rounds as the average swat team has members.
