They literally have nothing to lose.
literally?
Maybe I meant laterally. But they're not up for re-election ever again.
...unless the 22nd Amendment gets repealed.
PUT ON THE TIN FOIL BEFORE THEY STEAL YOUR THOUGHTS.
You idiot, the tin foil acts as an antenna so they CAN steal your thoughts. Only lining the inside of your skull with lead can save you!
It worked for Juggernaut.
Juggernaut failed.
And in a strange coincidence...
Pray he does not alter it any further.
dave b.
Big deal.
Serrano's efforts are just a parallel to what Republicans started in about 1985 when they decided that they had erred by pushing the 22nd Amendment through in the first place.
There is no such term limit in the original text of the COTUS. The 22nd Amendment was pushed through by postwar Republicans to stop another FDR.
IOW, attempting to pas an amendment, or repeal one for that matter, is a perfectly legal and reasonable action. OTOH, so is opposing it.
But it's not as if Serrano is engaging i some nefarious underhanded conspiracy here.
I seem to remember, not too long ago, a lot of Democrats worrying about that happening. I wonder what happened?
And they will again. There are plenty more Bushes on deck.
The fact of the matter is that just about any party in control of the White House will support repeal and the party that doesn't, won't.
I don't believe any of this. They were pretty adamant that they hadn't made up their minds on any one thing and would listen to solutions. No way would they just push for a ban without a good reason, no way.
More history should be in rage comic form.

They just didn't have the right TOP MEN in charge.
I love the phrase "greedy Soviet belly".
Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel wants to explore the possibility of privatizing Midway Airport.
Looks like Valerie Jarrett is getting into the airport business.
Can we stop going along with calling these bastard monopoly-granting exercises "privatizing"?
The parking meters, Skyway, and potentially Midway are about as "private" as the USPS.
How else can they blame the failure on privatization?
Dude, don't talk about the parking meters. Fucking NAP.
If only she can bring her "Slumlord Millionare" management skills to airport administration?
This Seattle woman is going on a Starbucks diet
They hardly even have actual food. I mean, I've had lattes and mistos for breakfast (heavy cream for the calories) but you kinda need vegetables sometime, I think.
Starbucks is serving real food now; it's their new thing.
Fine, I'll read the FA.
Had to click through to her blog, which is unreadable, but it seems like "only Starbucks" includes whatever grocery/prepared food items they're into now under another brand. So it's basically expensive fast food or something.
I don't know, I never set foot inside of a Starbucks normally.
They are extremely convenient for travel.
I only step foot inside of a Starbucks abnormally.
Picked up an extra mag and some pricy self-defense ammo for the new Sig today.
Fuck, if this "national conversation" over gun control doesn't wrap up soon, I'll be broke.
Well-armed, but broke. Hmmm . . . .
Oh Counselor, before I hit the hay, I have a question WRT mental health databases:
As written, and I posted the relevant law language a couple of weeks ago, in ObamneyCare, how does a discrete mental health database not run afoul of the regs and comprehensive gun protections?
I wrote up a quickie reply to that post.
As long as they had their "Too Crazy For Guns" database operated by a different agency than HHS, Obamacare doesn't affect it.
Some people have been hyperventilating that ObamaCare blocks any gun registration, but they're wrong. It applies only to HHS, and not to any other federal agency.
I'm considering purchasing a Beretta 92F; hopefully I'll get around to it before I'm limited to the 10-rounders, like I was when I bought a Glock 17 in 1999.
Where did you find the mag, RC? I can't find mags for my 9mm 229 anywhere right now, with the exception of the crappy 10-round ones.
You should check with David Gregory not only can he get High Cap items he can get them with impunity!
http://www.politico.com/story/.....86079.html
Eat it proles!
Every future defendant facing charges of having an oversized magazine ought to cite this as precedent.
(As if that will work.)
They had these at the local gun store. They're not high-cap; this is my carry gun (P938), and I like/need/want/demand the ones with the little pinky extension.
RC; Looking at getting a Sig. Any suggestions? Anyone else?
Depends on what you'll use it for (full-size? carry?) and what fits your hand/feels good.
The P938 was the smallest gun that wasn't too small, for my hand. I really like Mrs. Dean's little Kahr, but its just too small.
I went 9mm because (a) I'm already stocking the ammo, and trying to avoid caliber proliferation, and (b) .45s (my other option under (a)) are just too fat/bulky for me to want to carry.
RC; Looking at getting a Sig. Any suggestions? Anyone else?
If you're looking for a full-size, you can't go wrong with the P226. It's available in 9mm and .40S&W.
And .357 Sig. Which is a stupid name for ammo. Get the 9mm.
Great pistol as far as full-size service pistols not invented by John Browning go.
Thanks to both of you. It's primarily for home, but maybe some carry.
Any thoughts on the P250?
It's broken windows all the way down.
Seth MacFarlane attempts to diffuse controversy over Hitler joke, instead reminds people that he's really not that funny or creative.
REMEMBER THE TIME GARY COLEMAN HERPED A DERP
So was the Hitler fan club protesting?
Everything that people who hate The Family Guy say about it is absolutely true, but I like it anyway. Probably helps that I only see it about once a year or so.
It can be funny at times, even inspired like that episode where Stewie abducts the cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation, but so many of the storylines are just terrible and too often MacFarlane will use Brian as a mouthpiece for his atheist and liberal views.
I can see why Groening and Judge really don't have respect for him.
Is it just me, but it seems that the Simpsons writers know exactly where that line is where they can get away with the smug certitude of New Republic reading liberals without making you click to another channel. Watching the episode last week about preppers, I'd often find my thumb hovering over the button and then something funny would happen to negate the nastiness of the previous moment.
Only the episodes that aired on Fox before it was cancelled are funny. Post-resurrection, the show has been complete shit.
It was worth it for the one gag in the first epsiode where Peter listed every single show Fox had cancelled during the three years between the first run and the second.
Hey, he steals only from the best.

Democracy in action: White House petition to have Alabama QB AJ McCarron deported so Brent Musburger can move in on his girlfriend created.
If it gets 25K signatures he has to respond.
Obama has been very selective in which petitions to which he "has to" respond. What make you think if serious issues go ignored, he'll respond to this?
I think you just pointed out why he WILL respond to this one. It's a fluff question.
Precisely because it's not a serious issue.
Obama hasn't hesitated to involve himself with sports figures before - it promotes his "down to earth" image.
Reddit! White house beer! Torture!
It was pointed out to me today that Musburger was the guy who brought the FSU Cowgirl (also of Brett Favre dick-texting scandal fame) to national TV audiences attention.
She's a Tampa girl.

Would you rather fight a horse-sized duck or a herd of duck-sized horses. Huge geek cred, here.
The item I produced on the subject would've been impossible without shark expert Ralph S. Collier, who graciously answered the question put to him by email. The experience taught me a valuable journalistic lesson: If you send animal researchers outlandish hypothetical questions that touch on their area of expertise, they'll respond generously, especially if inter-species combat is involved*.
Well, a horse-sized duck is too terrifying to comprehend, and a duck-sized horse? Adorable!
Seriously. Can I just have the duck-sized horses as pets? Why on earth do I have to fight them?
It was a Reddit question to the President. Also, I think duck-sized horses would be mean little shin biters and ankle kickers.
I think it's from an Archer extra on the Season 2 bluray.
It was a Reddit question to the President some staffer. It's asked in pretty much every AMA. The sad thing is that was one of the few questions that was answered. They answered a bunch of fluff and left and yet people were like "OMG he's soooo cool and in touch with us." Gary Johnson and Jill Stein answered a bunch of stuff in their (multiple) ones.
Meh. Horse-sized horses will typically run from you, and they outweigh the typical human by a factor of 10. Duck-sized horses would flee in terror. Also, you could probably do them in with a single kick.
You know what they call a horse-sized duck? A fucking dinosaur.
Also, here's a duck sized horse.
Can you imagine being afraid of that thing?
I really did want one of those as a kid.

Who ever doesn't want to be the car? I think they can lose the iron, even though an iron can be swung by its cord to make an effective weapon. The wheel barrow, like almost anything with wheels, can be useful.
To replace it, the robot has utility even though it doesn't look like the fighting kind. Could always turn on you, though. The helicopter looks to be a Hughes model, very popular and mobility is always key.
I think it's the old kind of iron you have to heat up on the stove.
Well, still potentially a weapon, even more so if they catch you while your wife is doing laundry and you can - wait for it - strike while the iron is hot.

ABC is pursuing a live-action Star Wars television series.
I thought Lucas selling was going to save the brand from Ewok Christmas Special II: Katy Perry and Bea Arthur's corpse save Christmas.
If ABC (or CBS or NBC) does it, it will suck. Count on it.
It needs to be done by HBO. Just retell the whole saga, only with lots of nudity and some, um, uncomfortable tension between Luke and Leia.
Just make it about the Empire's failing war on the Rebel Alliance's drug trade.
That or have it be about Han Solo, who prior to meeting Luke flew from one side of the galaxy to the other, saw a lot of strange things, but nothing to convince him that there's a mystical energy field controlling everything.

Influenza has reached epidemic proportions in the United States, with 7.3 percent of deaths last week caused by pneumonia and the flu, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Friday.
That is above the epidemic threshold of 7.2 percent, CDC said. Nine of the 10 regions of the United States had "elevated" flu activity, confirming that seasonal flu has spread across the country and reached high levels several weeks before the usual time of late January or February.
BAN ASSAULT VIRUSES!
I'm probably one of the youngest posters here, but even I remember a time when the flu was not a big apocalyptic event. What gives?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanish_flu
The 1918 flu pandemic (January 1918 ? December 1920)was an unusually deadly influenza pandemic which infected 500 million people across the world, including remote Pacific islands and the arctic, and killed 20 to 50 million of them?1 to 3 percent of the world's population at the time?making it one of the deadliest natural disasters in human history
How did that virus get to those islands and the Arctic? Was there no way to avoid it?
There are these things called "ships" that people sail on.
Plus there was a war on, so lots of people were headed lots of places, taking the flu with them wherever they went.
Darn you, Kinnath, darn you to heck!
I'm aware of that, and from what I understand people still don't have a clear understanding of how that happened.
A wizard did it.
Immunologically speaking, Archduchy, that really is the best explanation we have. It still stumps immunologists and epidemiologists (that group is quite as difficult to stump). Spanish Flu was both exceptionally virulent and pathogenic, but I theorize also very fragile, as transmission was dependent on being in close quarters, like on ships and in battle trenches.
About the only thing I can think of is that particular strain was so successful, it killed off the most desirable victims, and was otherwise quarantined and did not incubate so the strain could not be passed on.
It's a shitty parasite that kills the host.
Almost makes me wonder if it was an early biological warfare attempt?
But most likely a mutation that took atvantage of the millions of men in close quarters in the trenches.
Sometimes the flu really is a big, apocalyptic event. I don't know if this is one of those times, though. Having read about the (so-called) Spanish influenza pandemic of 1918-20, I don't think this is all that bad.
I genuinely fear the year we have one as bad as 1918-20. Hopefully medical science will prevent that, but you never know.
I get that we might have a year where a higher than average number of people get sick, but how many them will actually die that aren't elderly or otherwise with a compromised immune system?
If I recall correctly, the thing that made the 1918 flu so bad was that it killed a lot of otherwise healthy, younger people. And no one is sure why that was.
IIRC, a surprising number of older people (over 65 in 2009) were immune to the H1A3 (I think that was the designation) that was going around. This was the non-Swine Flu that was particularly dangerous to pregnant women and people 55-65. It turns out that most of the people born before 1947 had antibodies that were pretty good at recognizing and attacking it. I think the bad flu cases this year are H3N3, which is a type of flu A. I used to put together the reporting for this system for the stste of FL in a previous job.
What I read, and I'm sure that the good Dr can correct me, is that some flu strains are so bad that the immune system basically adopts a scorched earth policy, literally killing off masses of lung cells to try to contain the virus. Younger people have a stronger immune response so they died more frequently.
I believe this is the book I read. I thought it was excellent.
http://www.amazon.com/Great-In.....panish+flu
I think NeonCat is correct. As someone who has had an auto-immune lung disease, I can vouch that they are not pretty.
I must have had that a few months ago. 7 or 8 days of high temp and coughing. Then it turned into pneumonia and another week of the same. My body ate my muscle. I lost 2 inches off my chest. I'm just now fully recovering.
Hopefully medical science will prevent that,
They can't.
I can hear the money flowing out from the CDC to state, county, and local health departments as we speak.
Google is tracking it in real time. CDC is based on reports, so they're data is a old by the time they release it.
http://tinyurl.com/azfgoww
their.
Yeah. I know. I wrote and maintained the program for state flu numbers for FL. The only time we went daily was about 3 weeks during Swine Flu. If the numbers get much higher, the CDC will do that again.

No gun magazine charges for David Gregory
Prosecutor decides laws are for little people, life goes on.
A manufacturer should stamp David Gregory's likeness on the side of their magazines. It's no longer just a weapons part, it's a political statement covered under the first amendment as well as the second.
Now that my initial rage has worn off, I think the worst thing about this is that the AG's statement will actually make statists believe prosecutorial discretion is used wisely and for good.
Of course not. He's one of the good guys. Not some racist tee-bagging redneck with a room full of guns and moonshine.

I like how the picture is of the President.
Seriously, though, good for him and I hope he's recovering/recovered from his injuries.
Jesus fucking Christ Obama is a megalomaniac. Instead of a picture of the recipient, it's a clip of the president saying how he will present it to him? FUCK.
To be fair, I doubt Obama told them to use his picture. Bootlickers gonna lick, yo.
I have no desire to be fair to Obama or his bootlickers.
You could console yourself with the thought that somewhere out there some Obamanoid has seen the picture and hates it because it doesn't do him justice.
That doesn't really do anything for me. You're not helpful at all!
You could console yourself with the thought that, if the many-universe theory is correct, somewhere out there, Obama and his cabinet are serfs working for you on your lands, of which you are the total and absolute lord over.
Just like they stopped and took a photo of him getting the news about the latest shooting tragedy. It's all about him--very fascist.
How did he react to the news?
Hit the food truck for lunch today (shepherd's pie wrap with bacon and mac&cheese;) and noticed that their napkins have "Legalize Street Food" printed on them. Looked like some street food lobbying group has come together. Damn that wrap was good, and in less than 2 minutes from order to having it in my hot little hand.
We have a ton of food trucks here, but because there are so many Amazon people, if you don't get out to them before 12, the lines are insane. Had a great burger the other day. And they even cooked it very rare like I asked.
If you can find a location of The Counter they'll cook you a rare burger. They're mostly California; I thought wrongly that they had one in Seattle. Really random locations outside of southern CA.
There are a couple of places I've found here that will do it right. That food truck is one; Skillet is another (and they have poutine!).

Racism must be mostly gone if people have to keep trying to invent it out of whole cloth.
That's not fair! White people deserve just as much access to fast food as black people.
Goddamit.
