  • A deal on the fiscal cliff is looking close. President Obama is reportedly offering to raise taxes on only those making more than $400,000 a year. Gotta soak somebody.

  • The president has asked his cabinet on ideas for gun control reforms. Dick's Sporting Goods, meanwhile, has suspended the sale of some rifles at its stores, and removed all guns from the store near Newtown, Connecticut.
  • Electors nationwide cast their ballots for president, with Barack Obama winning with an expected 126 vote margin.
  • A federal investigation into police departments on the Texas border is leading to the arrest of narcotics officers and others for allegedly facilitating the import of drugs from Mexico. But this would never happen with guns.
  • China's cracking down on a doomsday cult centered around this Friday, arresting more than a hundred alleged members nationwide.
  • NASA crashed its GRAIL lunar crafts into the moon. For science.

President Obama is reportedly offering to raise taxes on only those making more than $400,000 a year.

Obama's a reasonable man. He's flexible where to put the front line in the war between the classes.

    1. gaijin   13 years ago

      So $400,000='millionnaire' in left-speak.

      1. wareagle   13 years ago

I blame inflation...250K used to be the millionaire standard.

        1. Bardas Phocas   13 years ago

That was way back in 2008. Money is worth a lot less now a days.

          I blame Bush.

      2. Fist of Etiquette   13 years ago

        The one percent got bigger.

    2. Whiterun Guard   13 years ago

      Doesn't the POTUS make $400,000 a year?

I bet that won't get brought up.

      1. Certified Public Asskicker   13 years ago

He should have other income to push him over 400k, but yes, It is a very interesting number.

      2. Rich   13 years ago

The Pres himself always brings this up.

"Let me be clear. It is, uh, only fair that, uh, well-off people like me and Speaker Boehner should contribute more than blah ...."

        1. Drake   13 years ago

          Not nearly enough "uh's".

      3. R C Dean   13 years ago

Oh, c'mon. Taxes seem to be pretty optional if you're in the White House anyway.

        http://www.politico.com/politi.....12412.html

    3. mad libertarian guy   13 years ago

Even though it still sucks, it's a pretty major win for Hard Dick. Obama has been pushing for $250k for 5 years now. His lackies in the media have drawn the line there for him as cover for his position, and his cult of followers all believe that anyone who makes $250k is an uber rich, evil 1 percenter. That Swollen Member seems to have been able to circumvent Obama on this and eliminate a huge chunk of people who would otherwise have seen their taxes rise seems like it's better than what we could have reasonably expected, especially considering the "Obama won the election, the people obviously want . . ." narative the legacy media has been pushing.

      1. Kwanzaa Cake   13 years ago

Just goes to show how the dems and media have manipulated this thing. The 1% starts at about $380k/year, which is obviously well above $250k.

Anyway, I'd wait before calling it a win. This tax hike is Act 1. The Dems have much more in mind, including a VAT that will soak everyone and I will guarantee they'll be back looking to hike income taxes on the upper middle class, as opposed to the true 1%.

        1. Drake   13 years ago

Nope - They will wait until they lose the Senate in 2014 - then they will demand action on the alarming growth of the deficit. By action, they will mean all kinds of new taxes.

Nothing gets the Democrats off harder than getting the Republicans to raise taxes.

      Merry KentuckyChristmas!

      SoooGood

    3. generic Brand   13 years ago

Christmas is the young couple's holiday in Japan. They have a lot of progressive holidays over there, like White Day. It's a month after Valentine's Day and the girls have to treat the boys to something good (of course I have heard of it as "Steak and Blowjob Day" in the states)

      1. mad libertarian guy   13 years ago

Steak and blowjob day is the worst idea ever.

If we institute a special day for it, those of us who receive such things with regularity would be fucked. I'm sorry that there are those who need a day to get their lady to help them out, but they can fuck themselves if they think they can ruin the rest of my year.

        I can hear it now . . .

Man: Hey baby. Do you think you can see how many licks it takes to get to the gooey center of my tootsie pop?

Woman: Fuck you! It ain't Steak and Blowjob Day, motherfucker.

        Fuck all that.

        Get your own blowjobs.

^ this. Losers spreading the lame like democrats spreading the wealth.

Why the hell would anyone eat KFC when you can go to Popeye's?

      1. Lord Humungus   13 years ago

I like Church's Chicken - are they still around - in the Chicago area. Very spicy!

        1. Way Of The Crane   13 years ago

I like Church's Chicken - are they still around - in the Chicago area. Very spicy!

I'll second that. They still have them all over Florida, but I live in Fairfax, VA now and the closest one to me is a 30-40 minute drive from me.

          1. Restoras   13 years ago

Haven't seen that near me but I will be on the lookout.

          2. sloopyinca   13 years ago

I go an hour for Church's every now and then. Of course, that was when the nearest Popeye's was two hours away. Since they put one pretty close, I don't bother with the Church's trip.

Shit, that reminds me, I've got to drive to Oakland to fly today. I need to route my trip so I can eat at a Popeye's. If I'm gonna go down on a plane or get shot "resisting" at a TSA checkpoint, I'm gonna have a bellyfull of Popeye's.

Side note: anybody fly in/out of OAK? Do they have metal detectors or am I gonna have to opt out of the rapescanners? Please help as the answer will affect my clothing choice.

            1. Lord Humungus   13 years ago

I strongly suggest the metal codpiece.

              1. sloopyinca   13 years ago

                Of course you would.

No, I'm thinking more along the lines of wearing the tightest jeans I can find and eating a bunch of food so they really have trouble getting into my waistband. I want to be able to ask if they want me to take my pants off in front of the other passengers.

Or, how do they check my waistband if I'm wearing overalls? I've never thought of flying in them, but I've got a pair of Liberty overalls that would be comfy to fly in. Also what's the policy on jumpsuits?

                1. Brett L   13 years ago

Commando under the jumpsuit is the way to go.

            2. DEG   13 years ago

I've never flown in or out of OAK. Since about September I've noticed every airport I've gone through the stupidity point it's either the porno scanners or a pat down, unless you are elderly, family with small children, or military in uniform.

      2. Zeb   13 years ago

I can't. Stop rubbing it in.

      3. Jersey Patriot   13 years ago

In other countries, KFC is often pretty good. In KFC Ireland, they fry the chicken in lard or tallow. It's phenomenal.

    5. mr simple   13 years ago

      FTA:

Though, if you ever find yourself in Japan and not in the mood for fried chicken, Wendy's Japan offers a $16 foie-gras-and-truffle burger.

      Wow.

Dammit - I need some KFC now.

      2. Kaptious Kristen   13 years ago

And talk. And grin at you impishly and stupidly. And dance around in her quirky jammies. And play the ukelele.

        1. Whiterun Guard   13 years ago

I could live with all of that, until you said ukelele. If Gemma Arterton and Demi Lovato said they'd both get busy with me right after their ukelele duet, I'd still have to think long about it.

        2. Quetzalcoatl   13 years ago

And you just know she makes artisan mayonnaise.

          1. mad libertarian guy   13 years ago

          2. Zeb   13 years ago

I, for one, fully support anything to do with artisan mayonnaise. What doesn't sound awesome about that?

          3. Lord Humungus   13 years ago

I will gladly make some with her. As she plays the damn ukelele.

        3. PS   13 years ago

I for one don't dig the cutesie-wootesie crap. I've disliked her ever since she fucked up Trillian.

          1. robc   13 years ago

The writers mangling Adams' jokes fucked that up far more. I thought she was fine as Trillian.

            1. Randian   13 years ago

Adams' 'jokes' are fucked up all on their own.

            2. PS   13 years ago

Oh it was all mangled, but the I prefer the original Trillian character in the radio serials who wasn't a fucking dufus. That contrived dork stuff doesn't do it for me.

          2. sarcasmic   13 years ago

I've wanted to fuck her brains out since I saw that movie.

          3. Kaptious Kristen   13 years ago

Yeah, she was nothing like Trillian should have been. Nothing. The only casing they got right in that movie was Sam Rockwell.

And robc, Adams himself wrote the script.

            1. Kaptious Kristen   13 years ago

              *casTing

            2. robc   13 years ago

Not the same Adams (as is evidenced by his later books).

And I refuse to believe he intentionally cut off the punchlines to his own jokes, that was done by someone else. Director in editing, if nothing else.

I've never even cracked one open, so I'm not sure. But if it is, it's probably just the sort of latent, sobconscious gayness that you see in the Santorum types. My ideal Queer Qur'an would have as its cover a velvet painting of Mohammed being made airtight, with an additional cock in each hand.

Did anyone else think it kind of creepy that NASA named the crash site after Sally Ride?

      1. Brett L   13 years ago

At least they didn't name it after Christa McAuliffe.

      2. Zeb   13 years ago

        I don't.

    2. DJF   13 years ago

They named the new craters after Sally Ride. I guess its suppose to be a honor.

      1. C. Anacreon   13 years ago

What a coincidence. When I was younger I named my acne craters after Sally Ride.

    3. T   13 years ago

See, NASA figured out they had done the SI/USCS conversion incorrectly before launch this time. They knew it was gonna crash, so they're trying to play it off as intentional. That's my theory, anyway.

      1. Brett L   13 years ago

I thought NASA standardized on old English Imperial units after that Mars debacle. That way everybody has to do conversions.

        1. T   13 years ago

I honestly don't know. I should ask one of the NASA guys I know, but I'll probably forget before I see them.

          1. Brett L   13 years ago

"The lander is currently experiencing 40 stone extra force."

I doubt it. I think its metric all the way, now. At least in software.

            1. Zeb   13 years ago

That's what I would think. I love my US customary units (I just can't imagine using metric for carpentry), but it seems absurd that anyone in science or engineering that involves international efforts wouldn't. Though I suppose a lot of US engineers still use non-metric units a lot.

      2. Tonio   13 years ago

Uh, no, T. These craft were not supposed to be in permanent orbit around the moon; it was always part of the mission plan that they'd crash. NASA chose the time and place of the crash rather than just letting this happen.

They may have taken advantage of the crashes to examine the ejecta (debris) via telescope. This was also done several years back by the Indian Space Agency.

        1. Fist of Etiquette   13 years ago

They wanted to get the crash in before doomsday, but the irony is that the crash is what sets the doomsday events in motion.

                      Fun Fact about UKR:

Also, New Year's Day is celebrated twice: Once on the Gregorian New Year, which starts the Orthodox Christmas season, ending on Old New Year (a holdover from pre-Soviet times), which is Jan 14.

Well, in the western part of UKR, Catholic Christmas is observed; tomorrow is St. Nicholas Day (one of the days the wee ones get goodies), but since the weather has been SOD awful, I don't think too many kids will get gifts and will have to wait for their loot.

                      Lots o' Holidays here.

      1. John   13 years ago

Really Randian? Would you like to show any post anywhere where I have said ordinary Muslims are responsible for stopping Jihadists?

I really don't care if agree with me or not. That is the fun of a board. But I would greatly appreciate it if you would at least try to pay some attention to what I actually think and say. It shouldn't be too hard for you. You seem like a reasonably intelligent person. It will just take a little effort on your part and some actual thought. I hope that is not expecting too much.

It is a good idea for them to do something. But they are not responsible for the actions of their idiot fellow travelers. At most they have an obligation to condemn the jihadists and make it clear they are not them.

        2. Randian   13 years ago

          Did I hit a nerve?

          Sounds like I did.

Oh hey lookit here: John blaming ordinary Muslims:

          John| 7.27.10 @ 11:11AM

"any more than catholic priests should have to go around saying that they're not pedophiles."

Maybe they shouldn't have to, but they certainly do. Go talk to any priest about what it is like to be a priest post scandal. It hangs like a specter over everything they do.

And I have been to a few mosques in my time and I never found there to be anything like what you are talking about. They were not radical or calling for violence. But the subject really never came up. And indeed in some mosques it does, like the one in Arlington VA, but there is is praised not condemed.

And you are building a straw man. It is not that they have to tell the world they are no violent. It is that they have to kick the violent ones out of their religion. If the extremists were not recognized it would be harder for them to operate.

          and:

          John| 7.27.10 @ 9:36AM

Is it really that big of a deal to renounce violent extremism? Is it really the private citizens' right to call for the death of other citizens? And if so, can we really blame the other citizens for taking matters into their own hands and killing him first?

Yeah, lets have Muslims run around the country talking about how it is their duty to kill non-Muslims. If you really want to see a lot of dead Muslims, that is a great way to do it.

          1. John   13 years ago

You didn't hit a nerve at all. And none of those say that the state of affairs is right or just. They are pointing out reality. Do I think it is right to hold every priest accountable for the bad ones? No. Do people do that? Yes. As for Muslims, do yourself a favor and read what I said.

Yeah, lets have Muslims run around the country talking about how it is their duty to kill non-Muslims. If you really want to see a lot of dead Muslims, that is a great way to do it.

That is a statement of fact. If people honestly start to think all Muslims want to kill them, that will not be a good thing for Muslims. That is all I was saying.

            So sorry Randian. FAIL!!

            1. Randian   13 years ago

Is it really that big of a deal to renounce violent extremism?

              1. John   13 years ago

Is it really that big of a deal to renounce violent extremism?

No it is not. But saying that someone has the obligation to denounce things and make it clear they are not that, is not making then responsible.

Yes, gun owners should make it clear they are not and do not plan to use their guns to kill small children. The same way Muslims should make it clear they have no plans to kill the infidel and do not support as such.

Saying "I am not this" is not the same as saying "I am responsible for this"

Give it up Randian. Your ass is showing badly. Just stop lying and drop it.

                1. Randian   13 years ago

No it is not. But saying that someone has the obligation to denounce things and make it clear they are not that, is not making then responsible.

They have the 'obligation' to do it, but they wouldn't in some way be responsible if they didn't.

So why is there an obligation?

Give it up Randian. Your ass is showing badly. Just stop lying and drop it.

You got caught in a lie. Your bluster is typical of that fact.

                  1. John   13 years ago

They have the 'obligation' to do it, but they wouldn't in some way be responsible if they didn't.

Well yes, if you actively support violence, you are in some way responsible for said violence. If a gun owner or anyone refused to condemn the guy in Newtown and made excuses for him, then that person can't complain when someone says he supports mass murder. Same thing here.

            2. Randian   13 years ago

              It is that

              they have to kick

the violent ones out of their religion.

Who's 'they' and what do 'they' 'have to' do, John, and why?

              1. robc   13 years ago

The gun community kicked the Newtown fucker out of their community.

                1. John   13 years ago

Exactly Rob. No one in the gun community made excuses for him or claimed that he was anything but a monster. Is it too much to expect Muslims to do the same with suicide bombers? Expecting that is not holding them responsible. It is just asking them to differentiate themselves.

                2. Drake   13 years ago

I'm not sure an insane, non-gun-owning, 20-year-old loser was ever in the "community".

I'm not sure an insane, non-gun-owning, 20-year-old loser was ever in the "community".

                    Spot on.

Just like I don't assume that this guy was in the 'gun community', I also don't assume that a jihadist is in the ordinary 'Muslim community'

John is going great guns here because he got called on his own collectivist problems.

              2. John   13 years ago

Who's 'they' and what do 'they' 'have to' do, John, and why?

Yes, they have to make it clear they are not jidhadists and the jihiadists are not them. That is not holding them responsible. If you support people and say what they do is okay, then yeah, maybe you should be associated with them. Kind of like if gun owners ran around and said that it was okay to kill children with their weapons.

Flail harder Randians. Lie some more. Do some more frantic google searching. Move the goal posts. You are dying here.

                1. Randian   13 years ago

Yes, they have to make it clear they are not jidhadists and the jihiadists are not them.

Why? I don't assume that they are.

So, in your words, the gun "community" has the obligation to go around saying "we don't condone shooting children", otherwise we would be perfectly within our rights to assume that they do condone shooting children?

                  It's the exact. same. analogy.

                  1. John   13 years ago

Why? I don't assume that they are.

Even though the jihadists claim to speak and act for every Muslim? When someone claims to act in your name and in the name of your religion, there is no reason for anyone to assume that they do in fact act for the religion? And why is condemning the person so hard? Wouldn't you want to do that? As a gun owner, I am happy to condemn all people who use guns to commit murder. And in doing that, I absolve myself of any association with those who do.

It is that simple. You lose. Now go away and do yourself a favor and avoid this topic in the future. You are incapable of thinking or speaking rationally about it and it just turns you into an annoying twat.

                    1. Randian   13 years ago

As a gun owner, I am happy to condemn all people who use guns to commit murder.

                      Ooh, congratulations.

I absolve myself of any association with those who do.

It wasn't necessary, and I never would have thought you responsible in the first place.

Here is what you are saying:

"Until and unless someone actively denounces X, it may be implied that he is a supporter of X, until such time as he satisfies John's collectivist sensibilities"

                  2. robc   13 years ago

I dont think you have to proactively say it, but if asked, you should confirm it.

"I dunno. What is the gay community going to do about Penn State?"

Dang, I had just written this huge diatribe about how gays != pedophiles when I got the point.

Sigh... at least I hadn't hit submit.

      1. Enough About Palin   13 years ago

Gays do not equal pedophiles. However, I would assert that if a man likes having sex with little boys he is gay and if he likes to have sex with little girls he is straight. Anyone care to differ?

        1. tarran   13 years ago

I disagree, I argue that it's a distinct enough phenomenon that it should be considered a third (or fourth?) sexual orientation (hopefully I'm not misusing the terminology).

Children lack the secondary/primary sexual characteristics of adults, don't give off the same pheromones as adults, etc. I would think that homosexuals and heterosexuals have more in common with their sexual desires than a pedophile who likes girls does with a heterosexual for example.

Of course, it really doesn't help that some opponents of homosexuality conflate it with pedophilia.

Also things are further muddied by the conflation of ephebophilia (an attraction to postpubescent humans which is socially inappropriate eg. the 60 year old guy chasing 14 year old girls) with pedophilia which -strictly speaking - involves sexual attraction to prepubescent children.

Looks like AF is missing the whole point of the quite deliberate false analogy.

Although it is amusing that when a gay man happens to have proclivities towards underage males, the usual suspects do gymnastics to excuse their behavior. I highly doubt J. Bryan Lowder would be so magnanimous if it was an older man accused of hooking up with teenage girls looking for a sugar daddy.

Right, because a good solid door makes a "prison", but calling for making numerous new crimes and throwing hundreds or thousands of people in prison doesn't...

    R.I.P. Sen. Inouye
    http://www.asianamerican.net/b.....aniel.html

Back in Italy, the 442nd was assaulting a heavily defended hill in the closing months of the war when Lieutenant Inouye was hit in his abdomen by a bullet which came out his back, barely missing his spine. He continued to lead the platoon and advanced alone against a machine gun nest which had his men pinned down. He tossed two hand grenades with devastating effect before his right arm was shattered by a German rifle grenade at close range. Inouye threw his last grenade with his left hand, attacked with a submachine gun and was finally knocked down the hill by a bullet in the leg.

The right to bear arms isn't the only freedom implicated in massacres like last week's.
    http://online.wsj.com/article/.....TopOpinion

"What actually matters are the children." A lovely thought, an empty piety. The children had "news value" only because they came to a horrible end. Had they been left alone to grow up, it's unlikely any of them would ever have come to the attention of the Times editorial page. The editorial omits the murderer's name--perhaps a deliberate gesture, and if so, a futile one. Even if you don't know his name, you know who he is.

Committing journalism is not a wrongful act, and often it is a noble one. But all of us who, in the course of making a living at it, help publicize these horrific acts are in a small way implicated in enabling them. Perhaps those who scapegoat gun-rights supporters do so because they have too much pride to contemplate their own fallen nature.

Physics: How Strong Is a Hobbit?
    http://www.wired.com/wiredscie.....-a-hobbit/

If a hobbit is 72% the height of a human, he would just have 52% the strength. Let's say a normal adult human male can bench press 150 pounds (just making this up people). That would mean the hobbit could bench press 78 pounds.

    1. T   13 years ago

Epic fail. This assumes hobbits are identical to humans except for size. Look at chimpanzees. Chimps are notoriously far stronger than humans, despite weighing less.

Built on the chassis of a truck from an existing automaker that Carbon Motors is not yet ready to reveal, the TX7 is to be powered by a V8 diesel engine driving all four wheels and can be configured to carry up to 10 people. A compressed natural gas version is also in the works. Its bodywork features a new take on the distinctive polygonal design first seen on the E7.

          1. Palin's Buttplug   13 years ago

Still a clear violation of the 2A.

Notice it banned the mere existence of these guns - not carrying them onto an airplane.

the straws are asking that you stop grasping them so tightly.

            2. T   13 years ago

While I normally don't bother arguing with you, the only way this is clear violation of the 2d is if all-plastic guns are the only kinds of guns in existence.

As it is, there is no all plastic gun that actually functions that I'm aware of, and there sure as shit wasn't when Reagan was in office. So a law that bans things that don't exist is a violation of my fundamental rights how, exactly? Does a law banning telepathy violate your right to free speech?

              1. Palin's Buttplug   13 years ago

Replace plastic with "stainless steel" then. Not all guns are made of such. Therefore such a ban is Constitutional, right?

              2. sloopyinca   13 years ago

I think Shrike is a doucher but he's right on this one. Reagan should never have signed a law limiting what someone could keep or bear. At first blush, that law was and is a clear violation of the 2A. If someone wants to own an all-plastic gun, that's their business. It's the concept of the weapon that the 2A protects, not the composition of the components.

Maybe I'm being drawn in to make a contrarian argument by some overwhelming force. If so I apologize. But the way I see it, this would be akin to banning any communication (speech) by satellite in the 40's. Would it be OK to do since the technology didn't exist?

However he's busy making a faux movie trailer right now for a script that he recently wrote.

Rhode Island prof demands NRA chief's "head on a stick

When you hear shit like this and then listen to freaks on here like Shreek, you really have to wonder how long before these people commit actual acts of violence.

    1. sarcasmic   13 years ago

These people are against firearms because they know that they themselves are too emotionally volatile to be safe with one, and they project this weakness onto everyone else (except those who have gone through magical government training that makes policemen safe and trustworthy unlike everyone else).

Thankfully most of them do not own firearms, which makes the rest of us a bit more safe.

      1. Restoras   13 years ago

Frankly, morons like this are simply far to pussified to actually do anything violent.

        1. sarcasmic   13 years ago

I dunno. Put a gun into their hand while they're in an emotional tizzy and I bet they might shoot someone.

          1. Restoras   13 years ago

I doubt it. They think guns are evil (even though they don't believe in such distinctions) and will burn their flesh/go off randomly/infect them with some sort of freedom loving virus. At least that's the impression I get from the libtards I have to associate with.

And let's not forget the hypocrisy of it all. The cognitive dissonance would make their heads go all 'splody.

Now, if some union thug took it upon themselves...well that would be ok. But I'm not sure your typical blue-collar guy is going to do that.

      1. John   13 years ago

This is true. But the problem is that if things ever break down to where that is not a threat or worse yet, the government is sanctioning the violence, these people will be all for it and be the first ones to sign up to do it.

        1. Lord Humungus   13 years ago

Speaking of cops, I just got a 5 minute excerpt of the riot act and the threat of a 2000 k? fine for crossing against a red light in front of a cop who was acting as a crossing guard at the local school.

      1. Lord Humungus   13 years ago

I once got the "this fine could be $100" speech. I had a hard time not laughing in the guy's face.

        1. PS   13 years ago

I find that being an arrogant and condescending American along with sandbagging my Czech works pretty well. My wife is nice and law-abiding and Czech and they walk all over her. Never strident or overtly angry, though, maintain aloofness. I wouldn't recommend this in places where the cops really are full-on fascist cunts like Poland or Serbia.

          1. Groovus Maximus   13 years ago

Also not wise to pull with UKR police, and it's doubly hard when you don't know if you are dealing with a Russian-Ukrainian or a National-Ukrainian until they open their mouth. So you wait for them to speak first and then respond in kind. The wrong language choice can make your interaction...difficult.

            Also, good evening PS!

            1. PS   13 years ago

Evening doctor. I'm only condescending and arrogant when dealing with city police on the street. Pulled over in the car one has to generally show more deference. My Swedish friend is quite good at dealing with both Czech and Russian cops (especially when drunk driving), although he did get a ridiculous amount of tickets for not having a fire extinguisher.

              1. Groovus Maximus   13 years ago

HA! Too funny. Yes, Euro-landia does have an inordinate amount of weird safety laws for cars. I think it's a racket, personally. People in the USA should be thankful they don't have half the restrictions of your average Euro-landia nation.

Driver charged with DUI Marijuana after deadly crash in Vancouver
    http://www.kptv.com/story/2036.....-vancouver

Police say the victim, a male in his 50's, was believed to be walking back from Safeway and stepped out into the middle of traffic.

The driver, Scotty Rowles, was driving westbound on East Mill Plain Boulevard and could not stop his car in time, according to police.

Detectives says Rowles cooperated with the investigation, but after interviewing him they determined there was enough evidence to arrest him on suspicion of driving under the influence of marijuana.

It was a good trailer. Still seemed short in front of the Hobbit.

        1. robc   13 years ago

Without spoilering anything (not that it can be, really), how far into the book did the first Hobbit movie get?

Bilbo at least got the ring and escaped, right?

It didn't get past that part where he hears the flute and imagines dancing over the hills for 10 pages.

                1. Auric Demonocles   13 years ago

Technically, Gollum told him to "Ask me a question", not "Ask me a riddle", so he technically he was not cheating. And we all know being technically correct is the best kind of correct.

                  1. Randian   13 years ago

Even so, it's Gollum's fault for taking it as a riddle.

            FOR ROBC EYES ONLY:
I loved the movie though Mr. Jackson did take liberties. I don't think they were too egregious. There was one scene that I absolutely hated but thankfully it was short.

Yes, Biblo gets the Ring, they all escape via the eagles...and from the aerie can see the Lonely Mountain in this distance.

            1. Auric Demonocles   13 years ago

              Restoras,

              Which scene was that?

I realized partway through the movie that it was basically a war movie. Which I was OK with.

              1. Restoras   13 years ago

Auric, it was the scene in Rivendell when the dwarves are being serenaded by harp and flute while enjoying a repast of un-dwarvish fare. Completely stupid and unneccesary. Sure it was perhaps meant to cast the differences between the two races very starkly, and maybe humourously, but I think that has been well established by then. Just my two cents.

          7. ant1sthenes   13 years ago

The media loves nothing quite like an Uncle Tom gun owner, and I see Fox News has decided to join TEAM BAN.

our current president, who only now seems to recognize just how much we lost when we allowed the assault weapons ban to lapse eight years and thousands of innocent lives ago.

That's cool, Seamus. Keep on coonin'.

    1. Auric Demonocles   13 years ago

There have been thousands of deaths caused by people using guns that were covered under that ban?

    2. PS   13 years ago

Seamus? Pretentious name for an American, more likely a transplanted Irish cunt, and they all socialists at heart for some reason.

      1. John   13 years ago

That or some hipster pretending to be a gun owner.

    3. WTF   13 years ago

I feel a special obligation to speak out now, at last, to demand that this country finally adopt reasonable and effective gun control laws, that we restore the assault weapons ban and that we bring an end to these atrocities

He seems blissfully unaware that the AR used in the killings would not have been subject to the so-called 'assault weapons ban', as CT has thier own ban, and this gun did not have features that would subject it to ban under either the expired federal or current CT standard. What a bloviating idiot.

Anne Hathaway becomes more insufferably narcissistic:

Anne Hathaway wowed onlookers when she stepped out on the red carpet of the Les Mis?rables premiere in her strappy leather bondage boots.
But if you wanted to recreate her look at home, you can think again because not only did Anne's killer boots come with a four figure price tag, but they were custom-made with faux leather to keep in line with her Vegan roots.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/fem.....ables.html

LOL--her "Vegan roots"? "YOUR LEATHER FOOTWEAR VIOLATES MY VEGAN CULTURE!!!"

    Nuke Hollywood today.

I have no problem with people blowing money on a thousand dollar boots. But don't simultaneously tell me we need to do more for the poor and middle class. How about you lead by example and wear some practical footwear.

      1. Red Rocks Rockin   13 years ago

    3. John   13 years ago

Sorry Ann, even four figure boots and flashing your vagina doesn't mean you have any acting ability.

When are her 15 minutes going to end?

When she stops looking cute. Going vegan will only accelerate that process.

    4. Killazontherun   13 years ago

She's quite the self righteous prick:

"We've seen a lot of you lately," Lauer quipped as he opened the segment with the actress, who was there to talk about her performance in "Les Miserables."

Lauer was referring to a moment on Monday night that Anne is likely trying to forget, when she hopped out of a car at the "Les Mis" premiere and flashed photographers sans underwear.

"I'd be happy to stay home," an embarrassed Hathaway said. "But the film?

"It was obviously an unfortunate incident," she continued. "It kind of made me sad on two accounts. One was that I was very sad that we live in an age when someone takes a picture of another person in a vulnerable moment and rather than delete it--and do the decent thing--sells it. And I'm sorry that we live in a culture that commodifies sexuality of unwilling participants, which brings us back to 'Les Mis,' that's what my character is, she is someone who is forced to sell sex to benefit her child because she has nothing and there's no social safety net.

"Yeah so let's get back to 'Les Mis,'" the actress concluded.

I'm sorry, but did Matt Lauer make you do a public event and leave your underwear at home? Poor baby, you're just like the malnourished waif you play in the movie, and now you too are a victim of society.

And you put your trust in a government to protect you? You're a fucking joke! The 20th Century is rife with governments murdering their own people... the people they were supposed to protect. So fuck you for trying to take away my right to defend myself, my family, and my rights. Drink molten lead and throw yourselves into a ditch.
