Controversial King Quote to Be Removed from Memorial
Paraphrased, truncated speech made him sound arrogant
The government has decided to remove a controversial inscription on the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial rather than replace it, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar announced Tuesday.
Fearing for the structural integrity of the three-story-tall memorial, officials plan to erase the paraphrase of a quotation from King's famous "drum major" speech that appears on the memorial.
