New Genetic Study Shows Gypsies Came From Northwest India 1500 Years Ago
The Romani are Europe's largest minority group
A recent research has revealed that there is connection between Europe's largest minority group, the Romani, and northwest India. It has been found that despite 11 million Romani in Europe, there has not been much done to explore their history.
Dubbed as "gypsies" in the 16th century, the Romani were believed to have come from Egypt, said study researcher David Comas of the Institut de Biologia Evolutiva at Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Spain, who along with other team members examined the genetic history of much of Europe.
