China Offers Cash Reward for Snitching on Self-Immolators

Tibetans are lighting themselves on fire at an increasing pace

Police in a heavily Tibetan region of far west China are offering tipsters a reward of $7,700 for information about planned self-immolations.

Dozens of ethnic Tibetans have set themselves on fire since March 2011 in China to protest what activists say is Beijing's heavy-handed rule in the region. Many have called for the return of the Dalai Lama, their exiled spiritual leader.
