$4.8 million buying 650 foreclosed properties in Detroit.
Let the gentrification begin!
If those are standard city lots (25 x 125 or thereabouts), then he's got himself about 46 acres of Detroit, for about $105,000/acre.
I'm thinking he overpaid.
My standard Minneapolis lot is 40' x 140". I would suspect about the same for Detroit, having been there several times.
But even if that's the case, he still overpaid.
40'x40'
40'x 140'
.......
BANG!
**slumps over onto laptop**
We didn't get our 46 acres and a mule
But we did get you, CC
If you look in the article, he bought all the foreclosed houses in Macomb County, not Detroit (Wayne County). Macomb county includes the suburbs northeast from Detroit. The suburbs are much nicer than the city by a long shot. So he probably did not overpay, he will probably make a bunch of money off this.
Well apparently he's giving some of it away, at least that's what the article claimed.
Surprise, surprise. The government rules that the government doesn't have to pay damages when they illegal spied on Americans.
A former yacht-dealer spent $4.8 million buying 650 foreclosed properties in Detroit. That's about $7,000 per property.
The zombie theme park shambles ever closer to reality.
He overpaid.
Zombie theme park? More like undead research center right under everyone's noses. Former yacht dealer? More like secret reanimation scientist whose oceanic labs were no longer sufficient. Wake the fuck up, people.
Get with the program. He released the zombies years ago in his plan to lower the property values for his current purchase. How else would you explain the murder rate? Those weren't people man.
ANd he would have gotten away with it, too, if it weren't for those darn kids! (and their dog Scooby)
Wasn't that one of the techniques used by the evil HS administrators in Pump up the Volume
Aw, shit. Now I have to watch that movie and Gleaming the Cube as a double feature as drunk as possible and see how stupid I was in my early teen years.
You sure you want to find out?
At least Pump Up the Volume has a young Samantha Mathis.
a young Samantha Mathis
And small, but perky boobs. And pearl shrapnel.
At this point I'm buying a handle and checking Netflix. I have a meeting tomorrow morning, but tomorrow night I feel compelled to try it.
Neither are available for streaming.
Nor can you print them out at Redbox. Additonally, WTF Amazon? $59 for GtC on DVD? I was willing to pay $10 for the GtC/PUTV 2-disc pack.
I'm not going to say both are available on Pirate Bay. I'm not going to say anything like that at all.
PUTV is so much more strident that you probably remember. It does have a nice anti-government message, though. The FCC are villains and boobs.
Yes, the FCC are boobs.
if only. I would find them more entertaining and worthwhile to pay attention to.
One of my favorite teen rebellion movies ever!
Of course, I'm sitting in my room alone, naked, wearing only a cock ring.
Substitute Heathers for Gleaming the Cube.
I've seen it recently. Own it and watch 2x/year. Usually as a date with someone who has never seen it.
ah well. good luck making it through Gleaming if you can find a copy.
Going to homes.com and looking at Detroit is interesting.
Apparently, now a majority of Americans want strict gun control.
Is it always the belief of liberals that their view is the majority view? Still, why would the majority view get to control the minority rights?
Because fuck you, that's why.
Hmm. You'd think they'd, idk, make it a campaign issue in state races if that were true.
Fuck You, that's why.
Outplayed.
It would be so delicious to see progs make this an issue in the campaign.
They know it would be their undoing. They are stupid, but not stupid enough to do that. I know several die-hard Democrats that are pro-gun.
I was wondering the same this morning when I saw a political cartoon where an average joe smuck at a bar was bemoaning that the two parties were not serious about campaign finance reform. Whenever has that been anything other than an activist issue with zip support from the public?
And when they write about women as a single block of voters with a defining viewpoint supporting collectivism, it makes you wonder how much they respect anyone's individuality.
Is it always the belief of liberals that their view is the majority view?
Since they live most of their lives in echo chambers only associating with other lib-tards and immediately dismissing other POVs as stupid/ right wing memes/ fly over country idiocy, yes, they always believe that their views are not only the majority but also the only ones that should count.
E-mails indicate the U.S. Treasury Department led efforts to terminate pensions for Delphi employees who weren't unionized during the government's takeover of GM.
Detroit and Washington, learning lessons and taking them to heart.
The ACLU may sue a Louisiana charter school that forces girls to take pregnancy tests. Those who turn up pregnant are expelled from the school.
Medical privacy? Fuck that noise.
Thomas has ruled that minors aren't entitled to it and got at least 4 others to agree with him.
Thank you, most libertarian SCOTUS.
It's a very low bar.
Didn't they choose to go to that school?
Sounds like it ought to be a contract issue to me, no "civil liberties" involved. If this was part of the deal when they signed up, the little breeders get no sympathy here.
I don't think a charter school can set admissions requirements that would violate state or federal law if done by a public school.
As long as the charter school was up front about the requirements and no child was mandated to go there, why not?
The wisdom of such a rule is debatable but to suggest it is a violation of civil rights is hyperbolic to be charitable.
I'm not talking about what they SHOULD be permitted to do, but what they ARE permitted to do.
For example, I think schools should be allowed to discriminate on the basis of race if they choose, but I guarantee you that a charter school that put up a Whites Only sign might run into a problem with its public funding.
That's what I was thinking.
But as the parking lots gun rights thread showed, not everyone here agrees with us on this type of thing.
(thomas dolby scientist voice)
CONTRACTS!!!
Do they really need to mandate a pregnancy test though? COuldn't they just wait until it was obvious, without testing, and then expel those who violated the rules?
I'm actually sort of torn on this one. Charter school means that at least the parents have a choice to send their kids somewhere else if they think the policy if nucking futs.
If a private school instituted the policy (and had it spelled out in the enrollment contract or some such), I think we would all stand up for their ability as a private enterprise to engage in such practices whether we agreed with them or not. Receiving tax money definitely muddles the issue, but they only can receive that money if parents think the invasive practices and requirements of that school are outweighed by the benefits that attending the school can confer to their kids.
If they were my kids, I'd send them somewhere else. If they're demanding pregnancy tests now, it won't be long before they're demanding something even more ridiculous.
And I would too. But the point is that there is a real ability to choose a different school without adding undue financial burden to the family, which allows parents and students to find a school that works for them- whether it is the charter school with its (admittedly creepy) pregnancy test policy, a traditional public school, or another charter school that fits their needs. Hooray for dynamism!
My mom is a retired school teacher. I pointed out to her the other day that when she was a teacher, when she ran a pre-school, when she was trying to start a gifted program in her district, when she was on the school board, when I was in school and reported to her the bullshit I put up with every day, she spent most of her time battling teachers/administrators/state bureaucrats to do what was right. And when she left they undid it all within a year. I've almost persuaded her that public schools are the worst things in the world if your goal is actually educating kids.
That's not their goal.
Agreed.
But I gotta wonder, why in fuck would they go there?
a broad bi-national coalition of more than 100 U.S. civil society organizations ... will join the Mexican Movement for Peace with Justice Dignity (MPJD) to embark on the "Caravan for Peace with Justice and Dignity" across the United States.

Whether you're buying a $7,000 house or a $700,000 house, the paperwork is the same. So how do you find a realtor who's willing to work for the 3% commission on $7k? That's $210. Normally I'd say you could just negotiate your own price with the realtor, but aren't those fees set in stone by some realty association?
Maybe they got the papers, um, Robo-signed?
I'd buy that for 3% of a dollar!
Probably no realtors involved, just banks looking at a dead loss.
Normally, in real estate auctions, the auctioneer plays the role of realtor. The fee schedule isn't the standard 6% to the two vult... real estate agents.
AFAIK, there is no requirement anywhere that home sales have to go through a realtor.
As long as the buyer and seller agree they can draw up a warranty or quit claim deed (forms are available on line or at any office supply store) nad then the buyer can have it recorded with the local Clerk of Court for a modest fee plus documentary stamp tax (a small percentage - much less than a half percent of the sales price).
Although, I should note that anyone purchasing property would be well advised to purchase a Title Insurance policy or to retain an attorney who specializes in real estate so that they can be sure that the property is free of any liens or encumbrances.
Hiring a Land Surveyor to do a survey of the property is a sound idea as well.
The survey is a fixed cost unrelated to the value of the property. In Central Florida right now I believe a survey of a residential lot costs around $300.
I'm not sure what a title policy costs. The price would tend to be related to the value of the property since the title company is undertaking to compensate you for your loss if you were to lose the property due to your title being found defective.

Seven Cameroonian athletes have disappeared from the Olympic village. They are believed to have defected and want to stay in Europe.
Let's try this again: How big of a shithole does your home have to be to make Europe look appealing?
There. Fucking html tags, how do they work.
Cameroon has mass-murdering lakes. Europe only has Europeans.
That sort of thing belongs in Australia where everything is trying to poison you.
The solution (HA!) to this is a real pipe dream (HAHA!!)
I guess when even the lakes are trying to kill you it might be a good idea to GTFO.
David Ojong, the head of the Cameroon delegation, said five boxers, a swimmer and a female football player had been missing since the weekend.
Ahhhh Anchor Boxers!
Seriously? England's lucky the whole damn African contigent at the games didn't decide to stay behind.
"Sure, this place has miserable weather and mirror-cracking smiles, but at least I won't get killed by some wild animal, forced into an armed militia, or die from malaria, and the honky suckers will pay for my housing, education, and healthcare! What a country!"
Where the white women at!
Better question, how much does Cameroon have to suck to pass up on all the sex with the most in-shape people in the world we keep hearing about. They should at least have waited til the last day.
You know who else disappeared athletes from the Olympic Village...

Well at least it's being done by a good director in Bigelow.
And it'll probably be as realistic as The Hurt Locker. /sarcasm
Wonder how they're going to spin how they deconflicted the raid with the Pakistani military? Oh, I forgot; the United States just flew across Pakistan into the Pakistani equivalent of Annapolis, Md, only this one's 20 miles or so from Pakistan's mortal enemy, India. Did I mention that both countries have nuclear weapons, and Pakistan, at least, is a little twitchy about their command and control of them? An armed confrontation with the Pakistani military or cops would have been awkward.
I guess we're just that badass, though. Or OBL was sold out by someone in the Pakistani military or ISI or whomever ahead of time.
Maybe they were figuring that a little gunfire in the middle of the night is no biggie in Pakistan, so the chances of escalation were pretty low.
We don't know that they didn't tell the Pakistani military. It is in the Pakistani's and US interests for them to deny they knew anything. My guess is they knew exactly what we were doing but we gave them plausible deniability.
Think about this from the Pakistani perspective. OBL was a real potential embarrassment. But they couldn't just turn him over or kick him out because he is popular with some very nasty people in Pakistan. So when the US figured out he was there, the Pakistanis acted surprised and we pretended to believe them and then in return they promised not to do anything when we killed him and we promised to give them plausible deniability.
There is a reason why they killed him instead of capturing him. That was a favor to the Pakistanis so he didn't later embarrass them.
I think they didn't tell the Pakistanis what was up because of the risk of the information not being securely held.
They probably put the operation into the air, and when the Pakistanis said, "WTF is up?" they stonewalled them until it was all over. It's only a matter of a couple of hours. And I'm sure we move stuff around in their airspace all the time. No Pakistani junior officer is going to take a chance on firing on American helicopters if an American radio operator tells him, "No really, we have clearance, ask General Booggaboogga!"

Elephants cause global warming.
Do the watermelons want them to die off, too?
Previously, park officials believed the deforestation was originating from other creatures, such as rabbits.

Watermelon? I like it; Greens are Reds to the core.
Also, fried chicken.

Of course the elephants only started raping the environment after they joined the Republican Party.
Jesus tapdancing Christ some of these fucking greens are fucking stupid. If elephants are doing this now, they have probably been doing it forever. It's probably a perfectly normal part of life in the forest.
But just like socialists can't stand to watch a market work, "environmentalists" can't stand to watch an ecological system work the way it should.

"I wasn't yelling. I was just counting," Wambach revealed Tuesday during an interview at the team hotel. "Probably did it five to seven times."
The last time came in the 78th minute, with Canada trying to milk a 3-2 lead. McLeod made a save, and Wambach began counting again.
"I got to 10 seconds right next to the referee, and at 10 seconds she blew the whistle," Wambach said.
Who says there's no strategy in soccer.
Also, was watching some of the Japan-Mexico men's game. That ref wasn't buying any diving at all. I imagine the Brazilians or Italians would have been carded about 20 times if he ever reffed one of their games.

Why? Because their 'war of attrition' plan didn't work out for them? Seriously, Canada? You're one of the most physical teams in WNT and you're bitching about a tall striker in the penalty box?
One proposal for gun control: Obama and Bloomberg forge an alliance to circumvent inaction by legislatures by threatening to stop purchasing weapons from manufacutres that don't immediately comply with their demands to stop selling semi-automatic weapons and ammo clips with more than 10 bullets.
If the president and the mayor truly believe that semi-automatic weapons should not be available to private purchasers, and that magazines with more than 10 bullets should not be sold over the counter, they should simply say that, from now on, the federal government and the city of New York, as a matter of public safety, will not buy any weapons or ammunition from companies that do not agree to pull semi-automatics from their stock and refuse to produce magazines with more than 10 rounds other than for sale to the government.
I've never bought a magazine with even one bullet in it, so it shouldn't affect me.
More seriously... how significant is the overlap between companies selling guns to the government and those selling to the "civilian" market? Doesn't the military buy all its handguns from Beretta?
no.
the beretta 9 is standard issue for th duty sidearm, but many specialized units, etc. use other weapons.
i work with a navy seal commander (who got sent back to afghanistan a couple of times and had to take leaves from the PD) and iirc he said they used sigs as their sidearm
Oh yeah, I heard the SpF guys got sick of 9mm and told NATO to buzz off. Of course if they were allowed to use hollow point we wouldn't have that problem. Damn Geneva Conventions.
im actually going to switch from my 40 to a 9. the most modern 9mm ammo imo is equivalent in stopping power (pretty much) to the 40 and the 9 offers several advantages.
of course i've got several thousand rounds of 40 i SUPPOSEDLY can trade in to the armory and replace with 9.
(we get free ammo 2 boxes a month)
Yeah, but that's with JHP. Which the military isn't allowed to use.
9mm ball isn't a good idea to go to war with. But I agree that with JHP it's better to go with 9.
So I should start a company that makes just high-cap magazines?
Who needs fucking gov contracts?
Indeed. I suspect Spitzer hasn't thought this through.
He thought that he came up with a way for Democratic politicians to tell their base "We passed gun control laws!" or, alternatively, "We tried to pass totally reasonable laws, and the evil obstructionist Republicans fucked it up!". Whether it works or even passes is irrelevant.
No.
But the market is reasonably small. There are plenty of manufacturers who don't sell a thing to government who sell a fuckload of guns to not the government.
The new Central Scrutinizers, enforcing all the laws that haven't been passed yet.
Just ask Smith and Wesson about getting in bed with Leviathan. They learned their lesson the hard way.
The white zone is for loading and unloading only. If you need to load, or unload, go to the white zone. You'll love it!
The stupid is strong with them.
So, all the big manufacturers with government contracts stop making hi-cap mags.
If I can't already buy after-market hi-cap mags for any gun I own, I guarantee I will be able to before the pixels are dry on the announcement of their new plan.
That would likely work with only a small handful of manufacturers: Colt, Smith Wesson (who's already been burned before with trying something like this, and may not do it again), FN, Beretta, Remington (who don't make many hi-cap semi-autos anyway) and MAYBE Glock. The rest would give the government the finger, since they don't have government contracts anyway, and make a killing on the civilian market, moving into the vacuum left by the other manufacturers.
Fucking Canadians.
How do they work?
Politely.
Not if the butt hurt they're showing after their loss to the US women's soccer team is any indication...
NOt after losing in the Stanley Cup finals, as in Vancouver.
You know how you can tell that Aaron Sorkin's Newsroom is progressive wish fulfillment horseshit? When an NPR blog tears it apart as cynical and indulgent:
http://www.npr.org/blogs/monke.....r-optimism
Relevant quote:
"Hearing a Sorkin character forcefully argue something you believe to be true is like bathing in a tub full of champagne while you listen to a CD of affirmations called You Are Great And Smart, And No One Understands You: You know at some level that it's self-indulgent, but it feels so good, and don't you deserve that?"
LOL @ people who actually think this way
Getting hippie dirt on all that wonderful champagne?
I re-read Brave New World over the weekend and have come to the conclusion that Huxley probably had a better notion of how the dystopian future would turn out than anyone. There won't be an boots stamping on a human face forever, no Blade Runner, no Cyberpunk. Eventually, we, or our progeny, will be turned into pliant, overindulged, vapid, shallow, irrational cogs in a machine that we are trained never to examine or even question the existence of.
Soft tyrannies and gilded cages, here we come.
WALL-E is our future.
Sadly you are probably right.
Postrel called this 15 years ago; can't say she was wrong.
(Are Postrel references in the drinking game? Eh, why not -- DRINK!!!)
Postrel called a lot right. Her dynamist versus stasis dynamic much better describes politics than the right left one does.
You can't do worse than the left vs right view. It's not even clear at any moment what being on the left vs the right means, let alone over periods of time.
Though, there's plenty of "dynamist" tyrannies too. Pol Pot was certainly not a fan of stasis.
He was in a sense. he wanted to return the world to a agricultural socialism. He was totally reactionary in that sense.
So you don't think White Indian was a dynamist?
I think he was a radical stasis. He wanted to reverse all progress.
RE John
WI seemed to be okay with the idea of non-state primitivist societies coexisting with nonaggressive states, though he preferred one kind of social structure to the other. In fact, he called people out for claiming that he called for the dissolution of all society and government. I'd mark him as a dynamist, as he didn't want to restrict other societies and wanted to ensure that the primitivist lifestyle would not be destroyed by aggression from states. This glosses over the communication and transmission of cultural norms that would be necessary to maintain peaceful contact were the groups to learn of one another (an issue that was interestingly central to Card's Speaker for the Dead), but that is another issue.
However, I'd mark him as a clear member of the Left in terms of property rights (not the American Left, which is more Center-Right). I'd even consider him part of the "constrained" vision of humanity described in Sowell's A Conflict of Visions, though WI had a much different understanding of what "human nature" entails than most people here do. Pol Pot was a Left Unconstrained Stasist while WI was a Left Constrained Dynamist. Their preferred societies looked similar but the means to achieve them and what that implied about humanity were radically different.
Just my two cents.
Postrel's thesis was context-specific: the argument was that in the post-Cold War era, dynamism vs stasis would replace socialism vs capitalism as a defining conflict, particularly in the developed world.
IOW, it's not meant to be applied to the Cold War era or as the universal, defining tension of political philosophy.

I see it all the time here when Krayewski and Tucille question-beg an issue near and dear to libertarian hearts.
Absolutely, and it's just as noxious from libertarians as anyone else.
I don't think libertarian or conservative indulgence of that sort would survive on a television show, and be feted for its "bravery". To use an example, Atlas Shrugged (which was indulgent in places but less so than Sorkin, and certainly less mind-numbingly stupid and partisan) has been received poorly by most of those same folks, and even among libertarians has had a mixed reception.
Put another way, everyone has blind spots. We don't need to celebrate these blind spots (which Sorkinism is all about), or look down on others in the process ("speaking truth to stupid" being how one character in Newsroom describes her job of informing the public).
yes.
"Every man, where he goes, is encompassed by a cloud of comforting convictions, which move with him like flies on a summer's day" (Bertrand Russell, 1938
imo, any person (and libertarians are as prone as anybody to do this) who enters any discussion with the absolute conviction that THEIR pov is correct - has "lost".

Careful. Next you'll be accusing us of histrionic bigotry.
A former yacht-dealer spent $4.8 million buying 650 foreclosed properties in Detroit. That's about $7,000 per property.
He may have overpaid.
In Detroit, they won't bother sending firemen to certain properties unless there's some indication that the property is inhabited.
It really is possible for a property to be worth less than zero.
I've seen it happen myself. I've seen plenty of properties I wouldn't pay anything for. I've seen properties you'd have to pay me to take off your hands.
I'm thinking his plan may be to strip-mine the houses for salvage. A lot of the copper may be gone, but who knows?
What he really needs to be careful of is the city coming after him for "remediation" of dilapidated housing.
Maybe he'll insure them all for $10k, and then there will be one helluva fire.
Yep, Liberalland for all to see. Not a conservative anywhere to blame it on.
More Romney family white privilege:
Mitt Romney's dad had a card giving him free McDonald's for life
Were you born with some sort of congenital brain damage, or was your retardation caused by an injury to your head or inhaling something toxic?
But wouldn't this kill him at a young age, ala Morgan Spurlock? This is privilege?
How do you think he got Chris Christie's endorsement so easily?
Even better. This is "white privilege". Which is the reason we supposedly need affirmative action. So anytime anyone asks why we need affirmative you can say "I was told by a proponent that affirmative action is necessary because Mitt Romney's dad got free McDonald's cheeseburgers".
McDonad's drains billions of dollars a year out of the urban poor community in return for a bunch of shit-disks on moldy rolls, and then turns around and gives it away free to Mr One Percent. Does that seem right to you?
As a matter of fact, pretty much nothing in that sentence seems right to me, including the unstated assumptions.
Since the card was apparently payment for work Papa Romney had done for them when the company was just a start-up, that sounds fair to me.
Some douchebag graffiti artist made a fortune on Facebook stock just for painting a couple of walls with an ugly design.
Oh, mustard, will you ever win?
George Romney was a One Percenter?
Maybe you should address your complaints to the people forking over their money for "shit-disks on moldy rolls." Are you making the argument that the urban poor aren't very bright?
Hey! wait a minute. It's Tuesday, that means I can get shit-disks on moldy rolls for $.49. Man, that is close enough to free for me to feel like a 1%'r too.
A monocle, top hat, and McDonalds Card for everyone...except you 99%rs over there shitting in the park.
McDonad's drains billions of dollars a year out of the urban poor community in return for a bunch of shit-disks on moldy rolls, and then turns around and gives it away free to Mr One Percent. Does that seem right to you?
Yes, yes it does.
It proves that the urban poor eat no better than Mr One Percent
Fuck you are a racist shitbag.
E-mails indicate the U.S. Treasury Department led efforts to terminate pensions for Delphi employees who weren't unionized during the government's takeover of GM. The same fate did not befall those who were members of United Auto Workers.
That ought to be the biggest scandal of the Obama Presidency. They fucked thousands of people in order to save their cronies.
I hope Obama loses all 50 states.
It really is horrible. Had they done nothing and GM gone bankrupt, the Delphi people would have gotten something. But Obama came in and threw out the bankruptcy laws and ensured they got nothing so that the UAW could get more. It is the worst thing I have ever seen at the national level.
The emails at the link don't support the DC's claims. They're extremely vague, and at most the evidence says that Treasury canceled a meeting with the pension people which is possibly a violation of the law, but not evidence of Treasury "leading efforts to terminate pensions".
I wouldn't be surprised if the claims are correct, though.
I think they pretty clearly show that the Pension Guaranty people considered Treasury to be in charge of the overall process.
And it is so unbelievable that Obama was doing the bidding of the UAW.
On top of buttfucking thousands of secured GM bond holders, something that is right out of Atlas Shrugged.
This one is for Dunphy:
A COPS rerun is on G4 right now.
Some guy just got bagged for soliciting prostitution (the girl was an undercover officer). Naturally my kid has no idea what that means. The suspect yells over and over, "What did I do? What did I do?" as they're cuffing him. My kid says, "I don't know what you did either. But you must have done something, or you wouldn't be getting arrested!"
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.
That is a great story.
I find it strange that a virulently anti-cop libertarian would be watching Cops with his kid. Can't you watch something libertarian like Babar?
He's the one who turned on COPS.
He's also the one who acquainted me with CAMPUS PD.
We used to play Need 4 Speed: Hot Pursuit. Until he decided that it was wrong to try to run from the police cars. His race strategy in Need 4 Speed is to try to obey the posted signs so the police won't chase him and wait for me to get arrested.
Damn, Fluffy. Any chance that boy resembles the postman?
I guess in the Fluffy household, the surest way to rebel is to obey authority.
i'm a rebel at heart.
i love running from the cops in nfs
and in crime dramas, i often root for the bad guy to beat the system
makes me a better cop. one of the best compliments i ever got was a defense attorney, who after a long involved trial (witness intimidation) told me that she respected my work and i thought and wrote JUST LIKE A DEFENSE ATTORNEY 🙂
i actually think it would be pretty fun to work for the other side as a defense attorney investigator.
all i gotta say is if you ever saw the hookers on pac hwy or aurora, you wouldn't understand how anybody would PAY for that pussy.
I used to live on Aurora, that shit was naaaaaasty.
I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that he doesn't start demanding to go to Mass.
have you played mafia or mafia 2? kind of like a sandbox game in the tradition of GTA (i've never played GTA, but i understand the concept).
it's fun as hell to cruise around the city in mafia 2, snipe at a cop or two, and evade capture.
I still have a few years before I can let him play a GTA style game without threat of divorce.
There was some wifely freakout when I let him play Quake II on an old Playstation 1 that I still had lying around. And even more freakout when we started to play Multiplayer and he would yell out, "I killed you, Daddy!" in exultation when he'd frag me.
But believe me, I'm counting the days.
Sounds like you need to have a chat about "wrong" vs. "illegal."
My kid says, "I don't know what you did either."
Is that when you explained to him that prostitution is a crime, and the cops were enforcing the statute, as they are obliged to do?
I am not entirely sure how to explain prostitution to a 6 year old.
"Why didn't he just buy 18 matchbox cars with his 20 dollars?"
I'm thinking Cops isn't a show for six-year-olds. Not that I'm trying to tell you how to raise your kids.
Totally disagree. It's a great show to teach children about the "trustworthiness" of police. Completely helps to demystify them and knock them out of the ivory tower in the child's mind.
You've got to be taught to hate and fear,
You've got to be taught from year to year,
It's got to be drummed in your dear little ear.
You've got to be carefully taught.
You've got to be taught before it's too late,
Before you are six or seven or eight,
To hate all the people your relatives hate,
You've got to be carefully taught!
What's y'all's take on the rumored Petraeus nomination for Romney VP. The only Romney pick that could probably make me marginally happy would be one of the Pauls, which is highly unlikely.
Supposedly it isn't happening...

Terrible from my (libertarian) perspective, and probably unwise for Romney to focus on foreign policy in lieu of the economy.
I wonder when the sex tape from this Olympic party will surface:
